Chapter 141 Stand Down
Chapter 141 Stand Down
Chapter 141: Stand Down
Sylvia's Pov.
Time flew by as I held off on my visit with the alpha and his council members, there was no answer regarding the strange behaviour of Mia which is all they would ask of me.
I sat by the kitchen counter, staring at my cellphone laying on the dead gray coloured top, my fingernails picked at the bottom of my lips delicately as I was encompassed deep in thought.
One phone call.
Just one and perhaps I could get the answers that the pack needed.
But…
It would also put me and my entire family in danger and so would he.
Ezekiel.
A groan escaped my lips because it wasn't just regarding Mia's paranormal behaviour, it was also because I missed him dearly, the ache in my chest when he's not here to calm me down keeps growing by the minute.
I was pulled out of my thoughts when I realised that it was getting late and my brother should be back home by now.
My mother must have thought the same thing as she called out to ask of him as well, she had been getting much better after I had changed her drugs to better ones.
At least she could walk on her own two feet even though for a short distance before she got tired again, “He's not back yet,” I replied also wondering where he could have gone.
Then again, it had only been a week or so since I had been back, he probably had friends to play with. That would be nice, at least he didn't have to grow up ostracized like I was.
But deep down, as much as I wanted that to be the reason, I felt like it wasn't. I grabbed the phone from the counter and dialed his number, waiting for him to pick up as it rang.
With each vibrating sound, I became anxious, the worst scenarios reeling inside my head. But I chanted to myself to calm down, “He's a grown up, he can handle himself.”
Although when he finally picked up, I couldn't help but interrogate him, “Where are you? Why aren't you back yet? Did something happen?”
Alfred didn't let me finish my line of questioning as he replied with terror in his voice, “Yes, something did happen, and I'm staring at it right now.”
My heart skipped a beat knowing he was in some kind of danger.
“Where are you?” I dashed out the house running towards his location while he narrated what had transpired.
Apparently, there was another ‘Rogue’ wolf.
Another like Mia?
I sped up, anyone who saw me would know I wasn't a normal wolf like they all thought, but I didn't care about my identity, I needed to make sure my brother was safe.
Arriving in no time at the park, a crowd seems to have gathered with orders being yelled out from my right and left and all around me.
I pushed through the crowd until I got to the center of attention, chest pumping with anxiety and adrenaline. The wolf was in the middle of the chaos, growling and snarling bitterly as it crouched slowly, ready to lunge at anyone.
It was agitated, probably because it was crowded, “Alright everyone, listen up!. Please make room, he's anxious, and dangerous. He's not in his right senses at the moment.”
From my experiences at the school gate.
The crowd didn't seem to hear me, or rather they blatantly ignored me. Some cast mocking looks in my direction, whispering to each other.
“Or perhaps you're not in your right senses!”
“Who does she think she is to boss us around!”
I gritted my teeth hard, so much for wanting to protect them, I was about to give them a piece of my mind when the alpha's thundering voice commanded the crowd to stand back and keep moving.
When I glanced in his direction, he gave me a shallow nod as though egging me on.
With the little boost of confidence, my gaze returned to the wolf in question, and my mind went blank, realising I didn't know exactly what I was doing.
I panicked.
My heart started racing, tension rising as sweat gathered between my bawled fists.
The alpha had placed his trust on me and this is all I can do? Damn it.
The more I stared at the wolf helplessly as it tried to escape, the more I noticed the white streaks at the corners of his eyes, but pushed the thought to the back of my mind as if it was not necessary.
Time passed on and only one thought filled my mind.
We need to let it go.
“We need to let him go, if we try to catch him, he's only going to do more harm than good,” I pleaded with the alpha, our eyes locked for longer than a second before he gave a surprising approving nod.
A guard objected immediately, “But Alpha, this is our chance to know what's wrong with it, we can't just….”
Alpha Jonathan cut him off harshly, as though he had been irritated from the very beginning, “My decision is final, let him go.”
I noticed the guard gaze longer a bit before moving aside and giving way to the wolf.
My gaze returned to the wolf, he didn't think, he didn't wait, the second he saw his chance, he sprinted.
They could have caught him, but at what cost?
One or both parties would have been seriously injured. This wasn't going to bode well with my already grounded reputation.
Sanders thought it best to share his opinion at this moment, “Now that you've let it run along, I'm sure you have some answers for us, yes?”
“You just let the one chance at finding out what's truly going on to slip away.”
I was about to respond when a voice beat me to it, “I made the call Sanders, stand down,” Alpha Jonathan commanded, stepping up to his Beta.
They both stood eye to eye with an imposing aura surrounding them… and a thick growing tension as well.
