Chapter 40 Meeting The god Of Unmaking
Chapter 40 Meeting The god Of Unmaking
Taya's POV
It's been over eight hours since Emperor Namon's entourage left. He is now too far to stop me from leaving. His mother may be a goddess but one does not retain their powers after getting banished from the home of gods. So she is incapable of stopping me as long as I command her son's dragons to protect me.
I am willing to wait just one more hour for nightfall. There will be less people on the roads to lay witness to the direction I took. I am not sure where I will end up, but anywhere is better than here. I cannot stay and wait for the day he will order my mouth sewn like that of Viyara, a woman he had promised to love.
I put on a comfortable dress, coat and lots of precious jewelry to sell wherever I will find a home. I will also tame a dragon to protect me and my child. I have had all the time to hold and play with her.
I hear steps approaching the door of the chambers. It must be a servant bringing my super. Or Emperor Namon's mother coming to pressure me some more to forgive her cruel son. The person doesn't open the door however. They slip a folded parchment through the small space under the door. Then the footsteps fade away as the person leaves.
I walk to the door and pick up the parchment. I walk back to the bed while reading.
"My name is Leira, a servant of this palace. Years ago Emperor Namon killed my human mother by feeding her to his dragons. She was all the family I had and I loved her more than anything. I have waited a long time for a chance to revenge. You're the only thing that Emperor Namon cannot bear losing again, M'lady. If you wish to escape his captivity without fighting his soldiers, I know a secret way out of the palace. I left a line of white floor that will lead you to a storage room where I will be waiting to guide you out of the palace."
The writing on the parchment reads. A joyous smile graces my sad face. I luckily found another good helper. I definitely understand why someone would loathe Emperor Namon so much. His cruelty, especially towards slaves, must have hurt some people deeply.
I would appreciate a way out of this palace that does not involve using Emperor Namon's dragons to attack his soldiers. It's was never a safe plan for my little daughter. The soldiers would definitely fight back. I will not put her life at great risk as long as there is a safer option. The servant will help me leave and she will have her revenge against the god who murdered her human mother.
I wrap a heavy blanket around my daughter and make my way out of the chambers. The servant did in fact leave a thin line of white floor along the hallway.
Most servants have already left the main palace before the guards lock the doors, so I follow the line of white floor down the hallway, down the grand staircase and down several secluded corridors. I spot a brown door ahead and sigh in relief. The line of white floor also ends at door.
I walk to it and knock gently. "Leira?" I call in a low voice, remembering the name on the parchment.
The door slowly opens and I step inside. I do not see anyone, not even the person who opened the door.
Then it closes on its own, making me jump in shock.
Is Leira a demon? Why did the door open and close on it's own?
I try opening the door again but it is somehow locked from the outside. How did that happen? No one had followed me on my way here.
My palms starts to sweat. I was definitely stupid to trust a random letter from a stranger I am yet to meet. My baby stirs in my arms, looking suddenly uncomfortable. Should I call out loud for anyone to open the door for us? Everyone will know that I tried to escape, but it's better than staying locked in here.
I notice a strange shadow in front of us. It looks like that of a tall man, but there is no one else in the room except me. I must be hallucinating. So I close my eyes momentarily, hoping to clear fear from my brain so I can think properly.
"You really were desperate to leave your mate's home. I almost feel bad for tricking you," I hear a thick, make voice say and my eyes fly open.
A tall, good-looking man dressed in shimmering jewelry and a tiny silk cloth around his crotch and butt stands at the spot that the shadow was. He is as gigantic as Emperor Namon.
The door did not open for him to enter. And judging from his strange dressing, he does not belong to this palace. He is a man that loves beauty. Not even Emperor Namon walks around dressed in precious jewelry alone.
"You have my brother's stunning eyes, and his naive heart as well," he says.
My brain takes a moment to process his words, then my eyes widen in panic.
Harom?!
