Chapter 29 You saved me

The next day, Eve waited for the call with the NSF eagerly. She has to tell them about everything. She walked to the bathroom with the mirror in her hand.

After some time, the call connected. Without even wasting a second, she told Stefan everything.

“Don’t worry. Today, I was about to tell you about our plan. You have to live there for just one month. Your location will be confirmed in some days according to the details you gave us last time and then the NSF will save you.” He said.

Eve told him about the beach they went to some time back. Also, the hotel’s name, where they ate and all the other details.

After hearing the news, Eve grew ecstatic. She would finally meet her parents and Chrissy. She would finally be free.

But then, her face dropped thinking about the latter. Would she ever be free from him? Would she ever be able to live a normal life after what happened to her? It is not possible. She can never be ‘saved’.

“Evelyn, hang in there. We will save you at all costs.” Stefan uttered some comforting words. Eve was surprised to hear something like this from him and smiled.

After the call disconnected, Eve got out of the room and sat on the bed with her arms wrapped around her knees.

'Can she be saved?' The question terrified her. She knew she had lost herself and finding parts of her lost self wasn’t possible. She is no longer what she used to be. She doesn't even remember what she was like before.

Whenever she looked at herself in the mirror, she felt disgusted. Everyday, she had to spread her legs for the man she hated the most.

She walked towards the balcony in order to calm herself from the unstoppable voices in her mind. She was watching the view outside when someone hugged her from the back.

Ayden put his arms around her stomach and leaning closer to her, kissed her exposed neck.

“Let’s go inside. You can catch a cold.” He said.

And there he was acting all ‘I’m your caring husband’ part. She wanted silence for some time but it wasn’t in her fate.

“Can I stay here for some time, please? It’s not that cold.” She said softly.

“Okay…. but wait.” He said and walked inside. He came back with a blanket in his hands and sat down on the chair. Then, he made her sit on his lap while covering the blanket on both of them.

"Do you remember the day we first met?" He asked, out of the blue.

How can she ever forget that unlucky day! It all started from that day. All her sufferings, pain and misery.

"Yes." She replied and the day when he met him in that hotel came in front of her eyes. Even though she didn't want to remember anything about it, still the thoughts can't be stopped.

"Tell me about it." He asked.

"We met in the hotel. You were with Bryan and I with Chrissy. You asked if you can join us and…"

"No, That wasn't the first time we met." He said, surprising Eve.

She turned to look at him with a confused expression. Even if he saw her at some college fest, she didn't recall him meeting her before that day.

"The stranger you saved by the road…" He said with a smile.

Suddenly she remembered something.

"It was... You?" She was shocked beyond imagination.

"Yes baby. You saved me."

She was instantly reminded of the day when she found a man lying on the roadside, drenched in blood.

It was during the vacations from college. Chrissy went to their hometown and she to her maternal grandma's home. Her maternal grandmother lives in a very isolated kind of place. A village with very few people in it.

One day, in the middle of the night when she couldn't fall asleep, she was walking outside. She heard someone groaning in pain. Without any delay, she ran towards the place where she heard the voice. Going to that part of the village was forbidden as the villagers said a ghost lives there. But she knew someone needed help.

There she saw a man drenched in blood with no one around him. She ran towards him and sat down to look at him.

The blood made her scared. There were no signs of animals in the village. How was he so injured?

“Who are you? Oh god…you are so injured. What should I do?” She said in nervousness.

"Hey... don't close your eyes…. Look at me." She said, trying to wake him up. She then shook his shoulders gently to not let him sleep.

She took out her phone from the pocket. She was about to call the ambulance when the man grabbed her hand, stopping her to do so.

"I'm calling the ambulance... you'll be fine then." She said, her panic mode on.

"No... d.. don't. Don't... call." He replied in difficulty. He was badly injured and was in pain.

She thought of just ignoring him and dialled the number. This time he grabbed her phone and put it on the ground.

"Take.. out my... phone. It's in… the pant's pocket."

She immediately took out his phone and called the man he told her to. The other man picked the call quickly.

"He is injured badly. I tried to call the ambulance but he isn't letting me do so. Please come fast!!" Eve said in one breath.

"Don't call the ambulance. We're coming. Keep him with you." The man on the other side replied straightly.

After asking her the exact address of the place, he hung up.

The man looked at the girl in front of him continuously. She put his head on her lap and started crying, looking at him.

"Why... are y.. you crying?" The man asked.

"I'm scared that something might happen to you. Hang in there please. Someone is coming for you. Don't sleep…. talk to me!" She almost shouted in shock.

"Don't... worry. I... can't die... this easily."

"You shouldn't." She replied.

His hand moved towards her face and he wiped the tears escaping from her eyes. She looked at him with eyes full of concern while caressing his face.

Finally, a car arrived and two men got out of it. They came towards them.

"What's... your name?" He asked.

"Eve." She replied before they took him in the car. Both of them were looking continuously at each other.

Ayden put his hands under her shirt and started kissing her on the shoulder, which brought her back to the present.

"But... how? How could... it be you?" She asked, still in surprise.

"My look was quite different at that time. Someone cheated me that day but now I feel indebted to him as because of him, I was able to meet you, baby."

Eve was shocked after hearing that. She sat frozen. She saved him once. The thought of which brought shivers down her spine.

So she was getting punished for saving someone's life. This isn't how it's supposed to be. If you do good things, don't good things happen to you back? Then why??

'I never started with doing a good thing. I saved a criminal and now I'm getting my punishment for that.

Pay for what you did!'
