Chapter 33 You Fake It Too
Chapter 33 You Fake It Too
Leila questioned her furiously.
If you didn't know better, you'd think she was the one who got hurt.
Beside her, Susan's eyes were red and teary, shaking her head repeatedly, looking all fragile and pitiful.
"Forget it, Leila. I'm sure Seraphina didn't mean it. Don't blame her. I'm fine..."
"Susan, you're just too kind-hearted!"
Leila sighed, then turned to glare viciously at Seraphina. "You're so fragile and vulnerable, you need protection. Since Michael isn't here, as his good friend, I naturally have to look out for you and not let this bitch bully you!"
Hearing this, Seraphina couldn't help but laugh mockingly. "Good friend? Since when do you get to stick your nose into our business?"
Leila's face went pale, the hatred in her eyes clear. "Michael and I grew up together. Why shouldn't I get involved in his affairs? I'm not like you, just clinging to him as a housewife. How pathetic!"
"By your logic, then Susan here can't live without my husband, so isn't she even worse than me?"
Seraphina raised her eyebrows questioningly. Leila glanced at Susan, a flash of complicated emotions in her eyes.
"Susan's health is poor. She's different!"
If she wasn't getting an IV drip right now, Seraphina would've applauded Leila.
"If you ask me, you and Ryan are the same type of people. You know who Michael cares about, so you deliberately lift them up while putting down the other. People like you are the most disgusting!"
She showed no mercy, each word stabbing right into Leila's heart.
Furious and humiliated, Leila raised her hand and charged at Seraphina.
"You bitch! You're so vicious! Not apologizing is one thing, but now you dare to slander me? I'll teach you a lesson for Michael today!"
But before the slap could land on Seraphina's face, she grabbed the water cup from the bedside table with a cold expression and splashed it hard at the two of them!
The water had just been poured by the nurse and was still hot!
Suddenly splashed on their faces, the intense pain made both Leila and Susan scream uncontrollably.
Covering their faces, they stumbled around in panic and crashed into each other, then both fell to the ground.
When Michael came in, he saw them lying on the floor, crying out in pain.
"Leila, Susan."
Covering her face, Leila was in so much pain that tears streamed down, but to maintain her image, she could only say pitifully, "Michael, Seraphina went too far! I just brought Susan here to get some justice, and she splashed hot water on us!"
"I'm fine, you should take Susan..."
Before she could finish, upon hearing "hot water," Michael's pupils constricted. He immediately picked up Susan and quickly left the room.
Leaving only Leila sitting there on the floor, looking utterly embarrassed.
Seraphina looked at her and laughed softly. "Looks like you overdid your performance, don't you think?"
Leila glared at her viciously. "None of your business!"
"Of course it's none of my business, but I do enjoy watching a good show!"
Seraphina shrugged, looking thoroughly entertained.
"Haven't you figured it out yet? Compared to his so-called good friend, he obviously cares more about Susan. If it doesn't work out, you could try pretending to be dying too. Maybe then his attention will naturally fall on you!"
After being married to Michael for so many years, Seraphina was no fool. She understood many things perfectly well.
On the contrary, she saw through everything very clearly.
Like how Ryan had a crush on Susan, or how Leila actually liked Michael.
But she knew that Michael only had eyes for Susan. Even Seraphina herself was just someone he settled for.
Beyond that, he kept his distance from other women.
If she wanted to get close to Michael, being his friend was the only path available.
Leila clenched her fists, hatred clear in her eyes, and said through gritted teeth, "Stop talking nonsense! Just you wait!"
With that, she snorted coldly and quickly ran out.
The smile faded from Seraphina's face. She leaned back coldly against the headboard, fiddling with her phone.
She wasn't in a hurry, because she knew these people would eventually come back.
When Leila rushed to Susan's room, the doctor was examining her.
Seeing Leila follow in, Michael seemed to just remember her.
He rubbed his forehead and sighed, feeling extremely irritated.
"Sorry, Leila. I was so anxious I forgot about you back there. Are you okay?"
Leila couldn't hide the disappointment in her eyes, but she patted Michael's arm casually. "We're good friends, don't mention it. As long as Susan's okay!"
She didn't forget to add, "Luckily when I saw Seraphina splash the hot water, I quickly shielded Susan. Otherwise her condition would definitely be much worse!"
Hearing this, Michael's eyes showed more gratitude.
"Leila, thank you..."
Seeing him smile at her, Leila's heart leaped with joy. Just as she was about to take it further, Susan's moaning came from the bed.
"It hurts so much..."
Michael immediately turned and walked toward her. Leila's outstretched hand grasped at empty air.
Watching him fuss over Susan at the bedside, a flash of jealousy crossed her eyes.
At that moment, Seraphina's words echoed in her ears.
If she were the one who was sick with a terminal illness, would Michael treat her the same way he treated Susan?
"It hurts so much..."
Just as Michael was comforting Susan, Leila suddenly cried out too, covering her face as she sat on the nearby sofa.
Only then did Michael remember that her face had also been burned, so he immediately told the doctor to check on her too.
"Leila, are you okay?"
Michael asked gently. Leila forced a smile and shook her head. "I'm alright, just hurts a bit..."
At that moment, she felt secretly pleased. She hadn't expected this trick to actually work!
When she looked up, she met Susan's shocked expression, as if she hadn't expected her to do this.
Leila felt inexplicably guilty and gave her a bright smile.
"Susan, don't misunderstand. Michael and I are just friends. His concern for me is just between friends. You're still the one he cares about most!"
Susan pulled at the corners of her mouth and shook her head. "It's fine, Leila. You were just trying to protect me."
Even as she said this, she was practically tearing the bedsheet beneath her to shreds!
Another bitch!
Seraphina was already enough to deal with, and now Leila had joined the mix!
