Chapter 32 The Confrontation
Chapter 32 The Confrontation
Before she could finish speaking, she couldn't help burying her head in the blanket and sobbing out loud.
A dark look flashed in Michael's eyes. He stepped forward to tuck the blanket around her, his voice gentle.
"Focus on recovering. Don't worry about anything else. I'll take care of it for you."
Susan's eyes were red and swollen as she shook her head, sniffling: "She must have deliberately chosen a blind spot in the surveillance cameras to attack me, then deliberately made herself look more injured than me to make me the suspect."
"I'll get to the bottom of this. Don't worry."
Michael reassured her again, and only then did Susan gradually calm down.
When he learned that the woman who had collided with Susan was in this very hospital, Michael and Steven came looking.
However, such a small matter naturally didn't require Michael's personal involvement.
He stood outside in the hallway, watching Steven knock and enter the room, while he leaned against the window.
For some reason, he thought again of Seraphina, whom he had been ignoring all along, so he called her number again.
But before the call could connect, Steven, who had just gone in, came out with a pale face.
Michael's brows furrowed tightly, his tone somewhat impatient: "What, she won't talk?"
Steven's eyes shifted evasively, stammering: "Mr. Talbot, you'd better go in and see for yourself."
Steven had been with him for so many years and had always been reliable in his work. He wouldn't make such a basic mistake.
It seemed the situation in the hospital room must be complicated!
Without thinking much, Michael lifted his foot and walked in.
With just one glance, he saw Seraphina, half-lying on the hospital bed directly facing the door.
Her forehead was wrapped in thick gauze, yet he could still see the faint pink of blood seeping through. Her entire face was pale as paper, and her body was bandaged in multiple places.
At this moment, she looked far weaker than Susan, as if she could die at any moment.
"Seraphina, what are you doing here?"
Michael's pupils contracted sharply as he asked in disbelief.
Seraphina didn't need to guess why they had come. A mocking smile tugged at the corner of her mouth.
"Why am I here? Mr. Talbot, shouldn't you know that better than anyone? Why ask when you already know?"
His Adam's apple bobbed slightly. After a long moment, he finally reacted: "You're the one who collided with Susan?"
Seraphina laughed softly: "Yes, what else?"
In an instant, Michael felt like he'd been struck by lightning, his mind going blank.
He remembered passing by that blood-covered woman yesterday, when she had reached out and grabbed his pant leg tightly.
So at that time, was Seraphina calling to him for help?
"I'm sorry."
Michael's voice was hoarse, his eyes evasive: "Yesterday I didn't know that person was you."
"You didn't know, or you'd already made your choice in your heart? You know better than anyone."
Seraphina couldn't be bothered to hear his excuses. She shook her head with a mocking laugh.
Yesterday when she was lying on the ground, though she was already very weak, she believed Michael must have found her familiar, perhaps even recognized her voice.
But he still left.
For Susan in his arms, who wasn't even seriously injured, he chose to abandon a woman who might possibly be his wife.
His answer was already very clear, wasn't it?
Watching her casual manner, Michael felt an inexplicable panic rising in his heart and hurried to explain.
"I'm not lying to you. I really didn't know it was you. If I had known, I definitely wouldn't have..."
"You would have!"
Before Michael could finish, Seraphina coldly interrupted: "You would have scolded me for attacking Susan, saying I deserved what I got!"
"Maybe you would have been generous enough to call me an ambulance, but you still would have carried her away and wouldn't have spared me another glance..."
Hearing her paint him this way, Michael felt uncomfortable, his expression darkening.
"I never thought of doing that!"
Seraphina let out a light scoff and shook her head: "Just admit it, Michael. I'm not that important to you at all. When the kidnappers held us hostage, you chose her first. Yesterday when I was dying, you still saved her!"
"If you love her so much, why don't you divorce me? Why do you keep torturing me instead of being with her?"
For a moment, the hospital room fell silent.
Michael lowered his eyes, his hands at his sides clenched into fists.
His actions yesterday had already given his answer. Anything he said now would seem pale and powerless...
Time passed second by second. Just breathing the same air as Michael made Seraphina feel suffocated.
She closed her eyes wearily: "Mr. Talbot, is there anything else? If not, please leave!"
At her words, Michael's expression shifted slightly.
"So, did you deliberately crash into Susan yesterday?"
Seraphina suddenly laughed, not even feeling angry anymore.
"She crashed into me!"
"But Susan said you suddenly appeared and crashed into her, and you couldn't control your strength and fell down..."
"So what? You believe her."
Michael looked away, a hint of struggle flashing in his eyes: "Susan's health isn't good, and she has no reason to do that."
"And I do?"
Seraphina said, sighing helplessly, just feeling so exhausted, so tired.
"Michael, your favoritism should have limits. Don't go too far! If there's nothing else, please leave. Sue me, call the police and have me thrown in jail, whatever. But right now I need to rest."
With that, she closed her eyes, clearly not wanting to deal with Michael anymore.
Seeing her annoyance, Michael pressed his lips together slightly.
After a long moment, he dropped a sentence: "I'll investigate this matter thoroughly."
With that, he turned and left.
The hospital room door closed, and Seraphina slowly opened her eyes.
She held no expectations for Michael, nor did she think he would believe her. After all, if he trusted her, he wouldn't have asked those questions.
It was just that his guilt over not saving her when she collapsed in front of him made him temporarily unable to face this matter.
Time and again, because of Susan, the relationship between her and Michael had deteriorated rapidly.
Now it had reached the point where they couldn't stand each other!
Wanting a peaceful separation and leaving with dignity was clearly no longer possible.
She might need to prepare for the worst.
Today she wasn't feeling as bad, so Seraphina responded to yesterday's messages one by one.
She told Wendy and Patrick to focus on their work.
She was fine, no need to worry.
As for Alicia, Wendy would take care of her temporarily, and she had also informed Warren.
Having just reassured everyone who cared about her, she was about to close her eyes and rest when the hospital room door was suddenly kicked open.
Seraphina jumped in fright and immediately opened her eyes.
Then she saw a woman with short hair, supporting Susan, walking in aggressively.
Seraphina recognized this woman too—one of Michael's good friends, Leila Valois.
She had grown up with Michael since childhood, hanging out with the boys, so she didn't care about her female identity. Her personality was carefree and casual.
Naturally, such a childhood friend of Michael's looked down on Seraphina, a housewife who only knew how to depend on her husband.
But oddly enough, she showed great sympathy for the fragile Susan.
Seeing the two of them, Seraphina's expression instantly darkened, and she issued an eviction order without mercy: "Get out! You're not welcome in my room!"
Leila laughed coldly: "Not welcome? I think you're just guilty and afraid to face Susan!"
"Seraphina, I never realized before that not only do you have no mind of your own and only know how to depend on Michael, but you're also this vicious?"
