Chapter 279
Chapter 279
Alexander froze. After all, Calvin sometimes cared about Sabrina even more than he did.
Calvin knew this would be hard for him to accept, but for his best friend's sake, he spoke without holding back: "The person who saved me back then wasn't Sabrina—it was Charlotte."
"And she used that so-called 'life-saving favor' to manipulate me into helping her deceive you. She claimed Charlotte was bullying her at school. All lies."
"She was the one secretly rallying other students to bully Charlotte."
Alexander's hands clenched. "What did you say!"
Calvin gritted his teeth. "It's true. I'm not lying to you."
"There's more. She also had someone trick me before, claiming Charlotte was behind the attacks on the Wallace Family. Another lie. She just wanted to use me against Charlotte."
Calvin shook him. "Alexander, are you hearing this? If you don't believe me, go find Vincent—the guy you partnered with!"
"He's the one who helped Sabrina deceive me. I cornered him a few days ago and he confessed everything."
Alexander let out a sound somewhere between a laugh and a sob. "Vincent? Perfect!"
Calvin couldn't read Alexander's expression. He stopped talking. "Alexander, I'm leaving. We probably won't see each other again."
"Take care of yourself."
With that, Calvin turned to go, but Alexander grabbed his arm.
"Wait!"
Alexander hurried to his car, grabbed a package, and pressed it into Calvin's arms. "Take this! I know things are rough for you right now. I've been keeping this ready for you."
Calvin clutched the heavy bundle of cash, fighting back tears.
He freed one hand and pulled Alexander into a fierce hug. "Alexander, turn back. Don't let that bitch Sabrina keep playing you."
Alexander's voice was low. "Okay."
He watched Calvin disappear quickly, then turned and walked back into the club.
"Bring me two bottles!"
Moments later, Alexander was completely wasted.
He tried to stand and pour himself another drink, but swayed and collapsed onto the floor.
Through his haze, he saw Charlotte's figure.
Charlotte shot him a reproachful look, then gently helped him up, frowning slightly. "Honey, drunk again? Didn't I remind you to drink less?"
Alexander's chest suddenly ached.
He struggled to lift his hand, wanting to smooth the crease between Charlotte's brows, but grasped at empty air!
"Charlotte. Honey, I regret it."
"Really, I'm so sorry."
The next moment, Alexander's face went white!
His stomach twisted in excruciating pain.
When Alexander woke up, Cynthia and Sabrina were hovering around him.
Seeing him awake, Cynthia's eyes reddened immediately. "The company runs into a little trouble and you drink yourself into the hospital? Was it worth it?"
Sabrina's eyes also grew misty. She dabbed at them while her voice broke. "Alexander, this is all my fault! I should have gone with you."
Watching Sabrina's theatrical performance, Alexander felt a wave of disgust. He closed his eyes.
Seeing this, Cynthia turned and snapped at Sabrina. "This is all because of you! If you hadn't come back looking for Alexander, none of this would've happened! You're nothing but trouble!"
Sabrina stole a glance at Alexander. His eyes remained shut—she couldn't tell if he was uncomfortable or just didn't want to watch her and Cynthia argue.
She bit her lip secretly!
If the Forbes Group didn't still offer benefits, she wouldn't bother staying.
But right now, she couldn't let Cynthia berate her like this.
A gleam flashed in Sabrina's eyes.
The next moment, she suddenly clutched her chest and cried out, "My chest hurts—"
"Alexander, help me—"
She let her head loll to the side, pretending to faint.
Alexander heard the commotion and cracked his eyes open briefly, then closed them again, expressionless.
The same old trick!
How had he never noticed before? How many times had he wronged Charlotte because of this?
But Cynthia was genuinely frightened.
She jumped up and called for a doctor, having Sabrina rushed to the emergency room on the spot.
"Please, no more emergencies! My heart can't take it."
Cynthia muttered to herself as she returned to Alexander's room.
But the moment she opened the door, a familiar voice echoed from outside.
"Jenna, be good and listen. Do whatever the doctor says—"
Charlotte was here at the hospital too? Though it sounded like she was accompanying someone else.
Before Cynthia could turn around to look, a figure suddenly darted past her, rushing toward the voice.
Cynthia's mouth fell open. It took her a moment to react. "Alexander! Alexander! Where are you going?"
Alexander ran recklessly toward the voice.
Fortunately, he found her quickly.
Charlotte was carefully supporting Jenna as they waited outside the OB-GYN clinic.
His eyes stung with tears. He strode toward them.
But as he got close, he remembered something and stopped himself, afraid of startling Charlotte.
"Charlotte, I was wrong!"
In front of everyone, Alexander suddenly apologized.
Charlotte was completely caught off guard.
But Jenna exploded. "Alexander, what game are you playing now? Charlotte's done falling for your act."
Seeing Jenna getting agitated, Charlotte quickly pressed her back into her seat, then carefully positioned herself protectively in front of Jenna.
"Alexander, this is a hospital. Please stop performing."
"Besides, there's nothing left to say between us."
Hearing her cold, final tone, Alexander slowly lifted his head.
His eyes had turned bloodshot, staring unblinkingly at Charlotte. "I was wrong. I shouldn't have believed Sabrina. I let you suffer so much for nothing."
"Stop!"
Charlotte suddenly cut him off. "I don't want to hear about you and Sabrina. I'm not interested."
"Please don't appear in front of me again. Thanks."
In his agitation, Alexander had completely forgotten to maintain his usual dignified Forbes Group CEO image.
He'd thought humbling himself this much would make Charlotte—who had once loved him so deeply—feel sorry for him. Maybe she'd even comfort him.
But Alexander was disappointed. He even detected a hint of impatience on Charlotte's face.
He felt desperate.
But he still wasn't ready to give up. "Charlotte, it's all my fault. I know everything now."
"You weren't the one bullying people at school—it was Sabrina."
"She was the one who manipulated Calvin into going after you."
Charlotte couldn't hold back anymore. "If you know everything, then go to the police! Get Sabrina arrested. Problem solved, right?"
Alexander opened his mouth, trying to make one more attempt, but Cynthia rushed over. "Alexander!"
