CHAPTER SIXTY TWO
CHAPTER SIXTY TWO
Aria's POV
I couldn't wrap my head around the fact that Ethan thought it was all about him.
I didn't understand what he meant because I didn't trust him or whatever. I wasn't even the one who brought him into that room. He was going to take the lie test with or without me being present and I was going to see the result eventually. I was just allowed to ask him the questions by Kael, so I could be sure that he was being truthful to me.
Genuinely in my heart, I wasn't hoping for things to go south and I was wondering why Ethan felt attracted that I was present while he was being questioned.
I scoffed before saying anything more to him. “Don't you want us to stop doubting each other or acting like all has been going well in our relationship?”
“So this is the place you want to settle all that? In front of all these people?” Ethan shook his head.
The patch for the die detection was already on him. and there was nothing we could do about that now.
“May we start?” Kael turned to me and asked.
I nodded instantly. I wanted to do whatever it was we had to do and get over it as soon as possible.
“No, no. I don't want her to be here while all these questions are being asked.” Ethan said aloud. His voice shook as though he didn't want to say them as directly as he did.
“Why? Really Ethan? I'm the only one here who knows that what you are saying is going to be the truth so why wouldn't you let me even be here to ask you the questions?”
I didn't seem to understand Ethan anymore and it was exhausting.
“I don't want you to be here and I have my reasons. I don't want you to be here.”
“I will be here!” I yelled at Ethan.
“Calm down!” Kael tapped my hands and said to me as the tension in the room heightened.
“We will continue. I'd ask you the question while Aria will just watch you. She is not just here because you know her. She is representing her company's investigation and it's of her full right that she's seated here today.” Kael said calmly to Ethan.
That was also going to be the first time I'd see Kael speak to Ethan in a very calm manner.
“I see what you two are doing! I see everything and I know what's going on. You think I don't! The both of you are standing against me.” Ethan turned to me, “Look at what he has brought upon us, Aria. Look at us. Look at who's side you're sitting on. I told you I don't trust you with him. Look at where we are now?” Ethan said pitifully. I wonder why he was trying so hard to act like he was a victim.
“We don't have the time for all of this drama you are displaying. It's either you cooperate with us or you won't be allowed to go back to your home tonight and we can assure you a signed court order to verify that will happen.” Kael wasn't having any of Ethan's shenanigans anymore.
Ethan sat still and the room was filled in silence as we were about to begin the questionigs.
“What's your name?” Kael asked Ethan.
“Ethan.” He said, glaring firmly at the machine.
“Your full name.”
“Ethan McGregor.”
The machine beeped green and the female technician documented every answer or readings of it.
“Did you have anything to do with the Vale’s firm in the past?” Kael hit the nail on the head. I don't think he was following the script.
Ethan took a while before he answered, “Yes.”
“Did you have anything to do with the Vale's Firm in recent times?”
I looked at Ethan in the face and he looked at me in the face as well.
I was seeing a look I didn't want to ever see on his face. One that looked like defeat but more like a defeat due to when one gives up.
I couldn't understand why he was looking that sad just because he wanted to answer one question.
“Yes.”
The machine counted it as correct as well.
I shook my head at him. There was no way in the world that Ethan should have any concern with the company. Unless there was something Kael wasn't telling me. Maybe that was why they hated each other so much.
It was clear a lot was happening that I wasn't aware of and I just couldn't believe I had been a fool for a long time. It was hurtful to be realizing all that, this late but I knew what to do.
“Did you ever get money from the Vale Firm in recent times?”
“What kind of questions are you asking me?” Ethan became aggressive immediately. “I don't like what's going on here! Why are you trying to frame me for a crime that doesn't have any evidence that I participated in such a crime? You're just coming to me out of nowhere to accuse me! I will never take such a level of insult. This isn't what I was told when I agreed to taking this Test.”
It became harder for Ethan to answer the question as he nagged for a longer time.
“Ethan!” I banged my hand on the table and snapped. I couldn't hold in the irritation I felt as he nagged. “Answer the fucking question!”
“Why are you talking to me like that babe? Can't you see what he is trying to do to us?” Ethan lowers his voice when speaking to me.
I couldn't trust him anymore. I just couldn't.
“Just answer the question!” I didn't want to lend him listening ears like I'd normally do.
“Fine! Yes! So? It was my money that I was getting out of the company. It's not like it's a big deal or something. I just put my money in there and I got my money out of it too.”
