Chapter Eighty-Eight – Joke
"I didn't think you knew Selene." Neon started after Dorian began to feel sleepy again. "When I saw you two that time I just assumed it was for some reason."
Dominic ignored him, looking at the expenses.
"She's actually your employee. That means she wouldn't take any other jobs during that time. Her pay may be sort of fair." Neon added.
"Huh?" Dominic raised a brow. "You are only supporting this because you like her, right?"
Neon's cheeks reddened. "What do you… yes?"
"Like how long did she…" Dominic paused.
Selene had been working for him for almost a year. Did she really take no other job apart from his own?
He realized that they had been no cases trending that involved Case Closed for a year now. She totally focused on this one. The comments had cheered her comeback.
Truly, for a year, she devoted it to his case. He looked at the expenses. They weren't preposterous anymore. She was a big shot lawyer who stuck with him for a year.
"H-How's your daughter, Veronique?" Dominic asked to change the topic. It was awkward he'd been complaining about paying his employee her required wage.
Neon smiled. "Veronique is fine but she's not my child. My younger sister is her mother."
Was that so? Dominic narrowed his eyes at him. "You are unmarried too?"
"Not many of us jump in marriage like you." Neon teased.
That was one of his life's regret. Dominic sighed. "Well, if you wanted me to help you with Selene then I'm sorry-"
"Not at all!!" Neon got embarrassed. "I came here to see you and talk about your mother's production company. I-I just realized now she's actually your employee."
"Oh, right." Dominic looked down at Dorian that got woken up again by Neon's sudden shout. "So now you know?"
Neon sat down back. "Nothing happens. I'd handle it myself. No need to worry you over that."
Truly. Dominic smiled in appreciation. Bethany had gotten closer to Selene and Casimir seemed to be fond of her. Surprisingly Silas hadn't been interested. Dominic sighed.
That big shot lawyer still remained clueless to everything. But as long as he wasn't dragged into it, Dominic wouldn't care if hell broke lose over her.
"Well, will you eat out with us?" Dominic asked, breaking the silence. He carried Dorian on his shoulders. "It's time to for their brunch."
Neon was stunned by the offer. He left his seat. "S-Sure."
They both walked out of the office.
"And heads-up, it's not a world class restaurant, I like there because it's chill and they made good food. The only downside is a lady…" Dominic snapped his head to him.
Why did he forget that bratty lady said she was dating Neon, son of the Duncan family? It was surely this Neon in front of him or was there another?
Dominic gulped down nothing, things could get awkward but he couldn't take back his words now. He found Lucian at the front desk, explaining something to a driver.
"Oh, I see. That really confused me. You're a smart little boy." The driver hurried inside. "Thanks!"
Lucian made a short bow before turning to the door, expecting the next customer.
"You're sure that one is three?" Neon glanced at Dominic.
Dominic nodded but with uncertainty. Lucian definitely acted way above his age. He continued towards him. "Hey, Lucian, do you want to-"
"Daddy!" the little boy squealed, leaving his post and hugging Dominic's leg. "Dorian left me!" he sobbed.
"He's three alright." Neon chuckled.
Dominic smiled as he carried Lucian to his shoulders. "Dorian felt sleepy. We are going to the restaurant now."
"Yes!" Lucian balled his fists like he had been waiting for the moment. He need not be told to know which one.
They got outside, with both boys on their dad's shoulders, left and right. Lucian's eyes widened on seeing a red flashy Lamborghini in front of the building.
He turned to the blonde haired man standing by his father. "This is your ride, sir?"
Neon stared at him, surprised he called the car a ride. "Um… yeah, it is. How about I drive you guys to this place? Your dad's shoulders must be tired already."
Dominic looked down at his shoulders then looked up again. "I can drive just fine. You can just drive along."
"We should use one car, it's not an entourage." Neon countered. "All you have to do is direct me."
Dominic faced him. "Well, what if you kidnap us when we get into your car ? Spray sleeping gas and all that?"
Neon backed away. Such mistrusting individual! "Wh-Why will I do that? What do I gain from that?" He didn't want the boys to see him as a bad individual. Was that a joke?
But then Lucian's little chuckle made Neon understand it might be a joke and the boy was used to it. He exhaled in relief. "I'm still driving. Hop in."
Dominic saw that Lucian was looked forward to getting in the car so agreed. The inside were cooler than the outside, cooler in terms of temperature too.
Dominic held the sleepy Dorian close to him for warmth while Lucian stayed at the front seat, watching Neon drive.
"You know, they are mini cars like this that I can get for you." Neon said to Lucian. "Do you like cars?"
Lucian's eyes sparkled as he looked at the car. "Yes, but I need to be older. Cars are dangerous when used by kids."
Neon patted his head. "It's good that you're considerate for other road users but I mean little cars." He turned to Dominic. "I can get it for him, right?"
"Get it for all four of them." Dominic replied.
Neon's eyes widened. Four of them? "You have four-"
"Yes, get big small cars for Jake and Lucas and get small small cars for Dorian and I." Lucian agreed. "We'd be driving, driving." He gestured.
Where would they even drive that? Dominic sighed. His house would get totally disorganized again.
Neon swallowed his remaining words. Since Lucian agreed that he had more brothers, it's best to get a gift for all of them so none will feel left out.
He slowed down as he finally reached the restaurant per Dominic's instructions.
