Who Society?
Chapter Eighty-One – Who Society?
Dominic finished arranging all the things they'd need for the trial case. Having Brielle around to watch the kids was awfully convenient for him.
Even while living with only Lucas, he had to stop his work at hourly intervals to see what the boy was doing. Now, he only concentrated on his work.
There was a knock on his door. "Daddy, it's me."
"Do you need something, Dorian?"
"I finished eating and finished everything on my plate. It had vegetables." The boy reported.
Dominic looked up from his laptop. Did he promise him anything special if he finished his food and ate his vegetables? Dorian had never shied away from food.
Still to indulge his son, the father replied. "That's impressive, Dorian. I hope you enjoyed your meal."
He heard the boy chuckle. "Yes! Bye-bye."
"Yeah." and Dominic heard the boy walk away from the door. Was that all he came to say? Dominic found himself smiling. Kids were truly a joy.
He left his table, carrying his laptop with him. Interrogation of Tadashi had been done and the evidence gathering moved smoothly. It was time for the charges.
"Yes, Brielle, can I have a word with you?" Dominic found her in the twins' room washing Lucian's hair, the boy was already asleep. "The list you gave me…"
When he asked her to write down the names of CEOs or popular businessmen her father did business with. Dominic sighed. "Majority of those businesses are failed."
If that was so, then those were victims not members of the Society. Allen had been killing promising businesses before he came for an already prosperous one.
He really knew his card and dished them accordingly. His only mistake was not killing the heir to Thales Empire and letting him survive to avenge.
Brielle began growing concerned. When she had written those names, she'd been convincing herself that she was doing something for him. But they turned out useless.
"You don't know any other person?" Dominic asked, just to be clear. With how calculative Allen was, he'd surely keep such things away from his daughter.
Meanwhile Brielle grew anxious, if she said 'no' then he'd walk away deeming her useless. She wanted to do more for him. Even if it doesn't change the pain she caused him.
"I-I will drop by my house and see if I'd get anything."
Go to her home? Dominic wasn't sure about that. That home basically belonged to a murderer and even if she was his daughter, anything could happen.
For one, Mr. Allen liked accidents and he didn't hesitate to try to kill Bethany when he posed a threat. Dominic shook his head. "No need. I'd manage the information I have."
Brielle's heart shattered. No need? Did he mean she was of no need to him? Before Dominic turned, he pointed at her hand. "It's getting to his face."
Brielle turned and washed the shampoo off the sleeping Lucian. Dominic left while she was at it.
The Society should wait but if it couldn't and interfered in the case, then it'd be bad. For Allen to submit to them, they must be powerful and had helped his business.
"Think, Dominic! The powerful people of this society that Allen could surrender to! Perhaps not CEOs and not Businessmen, then who? Who!"
"The President?"
Dominic smiled at Lucas, who happened to have passed him. That was a far guess. "Why will the president join a society to attack my family?"
Lucas had a small frown. "I watch movies. Sometimes, even mafias have a direct connection to the president. And the Society might not be exclusively made for you."
Why was he talking about a Society with an eleven year old? Dominic rubbed his face sitting down besides Lucas. "It's been ages since I've started a good film and ended it."
By ages, he meant four years ago. Since he woke up from his coma, he hadn't felt relaxed enough to indulge in those things. Even if he tried, he never finished them.
"Well," Lucas put on his teaching face, "Members of these Societies will need people of all backgrounds. Medicine, Aviation, Business and even Education."
Medicine? Dominic brows furrowed. Could they have been a sketchy play with him while he was still in coma? He'd have to investigate that later.
Aviation? That made sense how Mrs. Jones travelled abroad when the police was looking for her. Business was assured, and education? Dominic tried not to think too far.
Lucas continued. "These Society members try to eradicate competition for themselves and they sacrifice a lot while doing that, lives or money."
This was growing dark really fast. "Should you really be watching movies like that, Lucas?" Dominic worried.
His nephew pouted. "I-It's okay. I mean, I'm helping you with what I watched, right? And now, I think the reason we were targeted could be more serious."
More serious? More serious than members eradicating competition? Dominic thought back. Then Mr. Allen wasn't close to a competition to the Thales family.
So he didn't attack them because he wanted to eradicate a competition, then why did he do it? Bethany had told him it was a long time ago their fight started.
"Go on, Lucas. Sorry." Dominic said when his nephew seemed to stop because he spaced out.
Lucas smiled then added. "Usually, another reason why members of the society make a full attack to destroy a business is because they refused to join their Society."
Dominic tilted his head in confusing.
"The Society could ask a prosperous empire to join their Society to become even bigger. If this Empire refused, the Society could begin fighting it as revenge."
That was truly messed up. "Why will they ask the Empire if they know the answer could be no?" Aren't they only looking for a reason to attack the empire?
Lucas chuckled. "True but also, Societies need money to fund their dark plans, they're trying their luck by asking a prosperous Empire to join them."
So it was to use the Empire at the end? Dominic scoffed.
How does a Society that can't fund itself expect to fulfill it's promise of making an empire more successful?
Could this be it what started their attack in the first place?
