Chapter Seventy-Eight – Society

But this foolish thing must be the best Silas had done so far. Dominic patted Silas, dropped the metallic ruler. "It was a hell of a surprise. Thank you."

Silas nodded. That should've been his first words a long time ago. "It wasn't easy caring for her while protecting her all the while." He added, fishing for more gratitude.

But his best friend ignored him, walking out of the room. Dominic knocked on the next door before opening it. He found Lucas asleep on his mother's laps.

It made Dominic so happy that the boy finally found someone else to cling unto. He was so little when his parents died that he never had the warmth of a mother.

"Domi, you've grown a lot." Pamela smiled painfully.

Dominic nodded like a child. "It's been a while after all."

Selene poked her head into the room, subconsciously asking if she could come in. Dominic opened the door widely, gesturing she could.

"Good day Ms. Pamela. Sorry to intrude on you but I'm a lawyer, Selene Saunders and I'd like to-'

"I did think you looked like him the first time I saw you." Pamela interjected, covering her mouth. "Butler Saunders' little girl, right? Aww, look how big and beautiful you are."

Selene was speechless before subtly smiling. "Thank you. I never really knew I looked like my dad. I'd like to ask you some questions concerning your disappearance. Maybe it can help us make a case-"

"No!" Pamela stood up, jolting her son on her laps.

"No what?" Selene frowned, for being interrupted again. "If now is a bad time, I can always come back later."

"I mean no. I don't want to make a case." Pamela ran her hands through her hair. "I just want to live quietly with my son, away from all those people wanting my life!"

Lucas' eyes widened hearing his mother's scream. People were after her life? He turned to his uncle. "Uncle Domi, what's that about? After her life?"

Dominic hesitated before inching close to him. "Your mother has been away for long because someone is trying to take her life."

He looked at his aunt. "And I'm quite disappointed that she wants to keep running instead of fighting back."

Pamela shook her had. "You don't understand, Dominic, being away from your family so long and when you're reunited, you want to fight?!"

"That's what happened to Uncle Domi." Lucas replied. "He was in a coma for four years and couldn't meet his twins. It hasn't been up to a year he woke up."

Pamela's jaw fell and no more words left as she turned to Dominic. She was aware he was in a coma but she had no idea for how long and that he had kids?!

"Even if he doesn't tell me everything, I know he's fighting the ones who did that to him." Lucas continued. "Mom, you should fight them too. Uncle Domi will help you."

His mother plopped down on the couch. "Can't I just live quietly? It's not like I can get back my job. My life is almost ruined. No one remembers me.'"

Selene and Dominic looked at each other. The young master understood the feeling so well. Returning to the world you knew after a long time and finding it so different.

And then trying to crawl up to the top from the rock bottom you've reached, he got all the help he needed to reach where he was. Still, it was never easy.

"You were into showbiz, right? I have a job for you already." Dominic announced making Lucas smile.

"All we need is information from what you remember. We need to nail Mr. Allen as soon-" Selene paused when she realized she said the man's name in front of Lucas.

But the boy didn't look surprised. She wondered if he already know who they've been fighting all the while.

Pamela nodded firmly. "I'd do what I can. It's been long already but I remember the man who crashed us and the words he said."

The man who crashed them? Dominic's ears perked up. That was Tadashi. "He's already been apprehended. What did he say?"

Pamela's eyes widened and a small smile came to her face. "He's already been arrested, huh? That's good. He told me I was targeted by the Society, he had no choice."

Society? "No one hated you that much, Aunt Pamela." Why would the world plan to kill her?

She had a celebrity talk show that many liked. Even if she had haters, it wasn't enough to call it society. How awfully dramatic was Tadashi?

Pamela slowly shook her head. "Not that society. Society. I did some research on them and I think my father needs to give me some answers."

And here came the hard part. Dominic sighed. "Your mom was killed. Your dad ran way. Butler Saunders was killed. I was in coma. The empire crashed. Lucas was lucky."

The fact he summarized the scary things that happened in his life time in just short sentences scared Dominic. He looked away as his aunt begun a mental breakdown.

Selene looked away as well, rereading into her notes and wondering when she'd get the chance to ask her questions.

"A society is after us." Pamela sobbed. "A secret society."

The two turned to her. Did she know what she's saying? And why would a secret society be after them? What affiliation did they have with a secret society?

"Mommy, maybe you should rest a little. Sorry for how it was broken to you. But good things have happened, wait till you see Uncle Domi's kids." Lucas smiled.

The lady wiped her tears and nodded. "I'm really happy to know you have kids of your own." She looked up. "Uh, is Selene your…"

Dominic chuckled. "No." he placed his hands on Selene's shoulders. "She's my lawyer. I'm also divorced but don't worry, you can see the kid's anytime."

Pamela frowned a bit. "Who would divorce the heir to Thales Empire? Silly woman." She rubbed her face.

Dominic found it hard to say but he stooped down to his Aunt's level. "You see aunty, I made mistakes as a young ma. The lady I married was actually Mr. Allen's daughter."

Pamela's head snapped to his. "What?! Why?"
