Chapter Seventy-Six – Scold
Brielle arrived with a meal for her sons and ex-husband when she was called upon. She found Dorian asleep on Dominic, who was staring into space in thought.
When she walked into the room, she noticed Selene and Lucian reading something from her laptop. Brielle frowned. Why was she with Dominic and her sons?
They looked like one happy family doing normal things. She cleared her throat loudly, but it wasn't enough to break anyone's focus on what they were doing.
She sat besides Dominic looking sober. "I brought the food. Are you feeling okay?"
Dominic glanced at her then smiled. It made Brielle's cheeks flush. She place the lunchbox on the table.
"We are tracking the murderer of Lucas' parents." Dominic replied. "Miss. Case Closed has been helping."
Brielle's hands flew to her mouth. Lucas' parents had been killer? It wasn't just a normal car accident. She stared at the lawyer.
Could it be what she was doing while acting like she worked here? It wasn't a really important role.
Could it also be what she told her connected she and Dominic. Brielle frowned, turning back to Dominic. "Tell me everything please."
If she knew about the case, then it'd connect her to him too. Also, she was scared, scared that her father could in anyway be related to that.
Dominic sat up. "No, don't worry. It's highly classified information for now. When we make progress, you'd know."
It was like a stab to Brielle's chest but she nodded. Why was she expecting more when she didn't deserve it?
"Mommy!" Lucian spotted her. "When I grow up, I'm going to be a lawyer!" He said proudly.
Lawyer? Why was he taking that rude lady's job description? "You are the heir to Allen's company. You're going to be a CEO, Lucian."
Dominic and Selene raised their brows at her. "I don't think that's how it works, mother." Selene smiled. "You let them choose what they want. It's interest, not heritage."
Brielle frowned. "He will have interest. He's the heir-"
"Heir?" Selene tilted her head. "If anything, isn't he the heir of Thales Empire instead? Still, it's a choice. His."
Brielle turned to Dominic who looked away from her. "Let the kids do what they want. You shouldn't influence that."
Brielle frowned, looking down. Did he take Selene's side? Maybe she didn't know much about motherhood but Selene shouldn't either.
"Don't act like a mother when you didn't even birth Suzy!" she snapped. Dominic and Lucian looked at her in sync, Selene's smile fell.
That was something sensitive, or at least it should be. Dominic stood up to scold Brielle but Selene stood up as well. There was silence between them.
"If I hit you now, before your child, would it be wrong?" Selene asked coldly.
Dominic rushed to Lucian to cover his eyes and ears. Usually as Selene spoke, she acted. Brielle hesitated.
But then Selene sighed, "But I won't. Imagine if Suzy were here when you said that. Then, I'd have hit you without a care if your child was here."
Brielle looked down. "M-My apologies."
"I don't need it." Selene walked out. "Just keep your jealous ass away from me and my daughter."
Jealous ass? Dominic heard Selene slam the door loudly. He wondered if Brielle was being that way because of his closeness with Selene.
Did she still have feelings for him? Or else why would she feel jealous? "Brielle, what you did isn't nice-"
"I know. It just slipped." She replied. "I'm sorry."
Dominic released Lucian and the boy stared at his mother questioningly. He picked his lunchbox. "Daddy, let's eat in your office." He walked out of the office.
His father was surprised. Was she trying to avoid his mother? Could he had understood what her words mean?
"Lucian! Mommy is sorry-" but before Brielle finished Lucian walked out of the door. Dominic exhaled. The boy was more perspective than he looked.
He held unto Dorian tightly before leaving the room as well. As he walked to his office, he began receiving influx of messages.
He hastened his steps to get to his office before bringing his phone out but they kept coming in that he had to take a look.
"Hey!" "We're back!" "Me and my girl." "Are you in?" "I mean, are you at your house now?" "I really want to see Lucas now." "Wheeee!" "We are one big family." "Heyy?"
Dominic felt like throwing the phone to the ground but he decided to wait till Silas comes before him, then he'd throw the phone on his face.
He dialed his line, getting into his office. He stopped on seeing Lucas and Jake in the room, playing chess. Lucian was towering over them watching curiously.
"Hey!" Silas picked up.
"I'd kill you soon." Dominic said lowly. "And Lucas is at my office. All of us are here now. I'm not interested in your girl and I'm sure Lucas isn't either. So don't bother us."
"Now, now, you can't be so sure!" Silas chuckled. "We are coming over! Also, prepare the receptionist's details. For real this time, okay?"
Silas hung up on the call. Dominic stared into space. He should still prepare the receptionist's details when he was coming over with a girlfriend?
Something was definitely up! Silas was a playboy but he played carefully. And when he was with a lady he tried to make her feel like his whole world, as sad as that was.
"Lucas, you all, Silas is coming back with a guest. I think he's coming here." Dominic said as he laid Dorian on his couch.
As he turned back to the others, he couldn't help but notice how his office looked like a kids' center. When did this happen? He smiled at himself.
"Yeah!" Lucas cheered on winning Jake in chess. "Uncle Domi, I think I'd be dropping swim classes and take chess classes instead." He said in a smug tone.
Jake looked unbothered but said. "Hmm, me too. I really like chess. It's much more stimulating than swimming."
He didn't look like he was having fun but Dominic nodded at Jake. "All games are stimulating, it's just your interest."
There was a knock on the door. Dominic hurried to the door. Could it be Silas and his girlfriend already?
"Hey!" Silas made a two finger salute.
Dominic's shoulder dropped. He looked behind him at the lady standing but his side. His eyes slowly widened.
Silas placed his hand on his shoulders. "Pretty eh?"
"Lucas, come and see my girlfriend." He shouted inside. Lucas ran out. "Uncle Silas!" the other boys rushed out soon. They stopped on seeing the lady.
The lady's eyes were down but immediately Lucas walked out, she looked up, then rushed to him. "My baby!"
Dominic was snapped from his thoughts at her words. Could it be? "Aunty Pamela? Is… that you?"
