Chapter 103 Who Actually Cares
When Arabella’s determination rose once again, Luke was with Helena with a grimace. The siblings were sitting on the patio alone.
The glare he sent in her direction made her shiver. Keeping her eyes on her laps, she could feel the discontent emerging from Luke.
“She is your best friend, you must have known her every secret then you must have known she liked William, no?” He asked dominantly.
“Luke, listen-”
“Did you know or not, Helena? Since when?”
“Since… the start,”
Looking down in dejection when her actions backfired terribly, she gulped, trying to justify but he didn’t let her and hit the table.
“So despite knowing your best friend loved your elder brother since fifteen, you told ME to become a better man for her?” He growled.
“When you know William is all that existed in her then why did you encourage me to love her, dammit!?”
“I-I love Arabella, she is like a sister to me. I-I didn’t want her to go far away from me, I really wanted her to be my sister-in-law,” Helena informed sadly.
“And when I asked William, he said he has no romantic feelings for her. She also wanted to move on… you had that incident with Peach too,”
Wrath visible through his clenched jaw, glaring at her for messing things up more.
Fidgeting her fingers around her dress anxiously, Helena forced a weak smile.
“And I thought, what is the best solution for two broken hearts to be one?”
Luke scoffed, “Your stupid thinking led us here, Helena.”
“You made me believe Arabella loves me, I tried to become better only to realize it was all a lie, she never loved me,”
“She tried her best, she gave her all to your guys’ relationship,”
Helena reasoned gently, recalling times when she obeyed him senselessly, even when he was wrong.
“I also said I am ready to forget Peach and move forward in life but do you see her disappearing from my side?”
He merely rolled his eyes, discarding her honest statement and muttered angrily, curling his hand in a fist.
“I am fucking incapable of removing her from my life, it’s never easy, Helena. But, how will you understand?”
Snickering at his sister, he mocked with a serious glare.
“Those who get their love without obstacles wouldn’t never comprehend the suffering of incompletedness,”
“What else was I supposed to do? My best friend was losing herself before unrequited love. My brother was heartbroken.” She snapped.
But soon relaxing, she gritted her teeth, averting her gaze powerlessly with her voice breaking.
“I had to do something to save you both, I couldn’t afford risking both of you and what was better than to greet two wretched hearts?”
“The answer is right before you, Helena. Look what happened,”
A brief silence appeared before the siblings.
Helena was staring at her laps with tears blurring her sight. She never fathomed things would worsen to this extent.
She just wanted the best for them, to overcome their heartache but it only made the situation worse.
Shaking her head to discard what happened previously and focus on the path ahead, she asked hesitantly, “What are you going to do now?”
“I don’t know. My soul still burns and each time it would sting… I want Arabella to burn too,”
“Why her? Leave her be. She already has her long series of tribulations,” She got desperate.
“I don’t care. Just like she didn’t before using me to forget William,”
Enunciating, Luke rose from his seat, grabbing his stuff from the table, holding his head up assertively, uncaring of the pleading stare of his sister.
“I will hurt Arabella Grayson to the point she will beg me forgiveness,”
“Stop it, Luke. Snap out of it,”
“I am done being heartbroken, first William, then Peach, now Arabella. Why am I always treated as a second option?” Luke hissed, hiding the anguish in his voice.
“Not this time, I won’t lose this time. I will show you all. I will steal my happiness,”
“Luke, come on, snap out of this mindlessness,”
She got up to hold him, to make him listen but he pointed his finger furiously at her.
“And don’t you dare to interfere,”
“Luke, listen- Luke!”
“I am going,”
“Where?!”
With his back facing her, Luke knew in this unknown country he had a single location labeled as his shelter and walked away.
“To the only person who actually cares about my heartbreak at this point,”
Helena held her hand out to stop her brother but to no avail, he left, to where his mind and heart could attain momentary solace.
Unlike last time where he got someone fired due to making him wait, he decided not to come inside the Galaxy Chain’s enormous territory.
The workplace which is the dream of endless people.
The gigantic headquarters, one of the largest workplaces in the UK.
In the exclusive parking area, his car was parked near the custom-made pink McLaren, vibrant enough to make his eyes twitch.
“Her and her obsession with pink color,” He sighed, rubbing his temples while waiting for the busy businesswoman.
And she came, with four people behind her, handling her work proficiently, upholding a superior aura.
Revealing why she was known as the most focused, the immaculate successor of Galaxy Chain.
“You. Increase the demand, I won’t work for less. You, cancel the meeting, I want him to feel inferior. And you, arrange a meeting with the finance ministry-”
Her statement was left mid-way when she saw Luke there, leaning against his car, smoking calmly.
A delightful smirk emerged. Raising her hand gracefully, she moved, signalling them to leave her as they complied.
Emitting a sigh of relief and ran back to their work.
When they were left alone, her body instinctively reacted and she jumped onto Luke, hugging him from behind with a beautiful grin.
“Baby!”
Hiding his smirk when she was embracing him without any intention of releasing, Luke kept a stoic face and exhaled the smoke in the air.
“I am not your baby,”
“Of course, you are my Darling,” She winked, pulling back with a giggle, snatching the cigarette from his hand and taking a long inhale.
“So, you got your closure? Is your heart at solace?”
Exhaling to remain nonchalant, he shared the cigarette with her, causing her to stare at him shyly when he didn’t pull back.
“Peach, remember you told me why must I hurt myself for those who betrayed me? Why be anguished when they are happy?” He asked softly, exhaling the smoke in the air.
“Hmm, I did. Did seeing them together knock some senses in you?” She asked playfully.
Averting his gaze, a strange hesitation flickered in his hazel eyes but concealing it, he nodded.
“Yes, it did. Why should I be heartbroken because of those who are… happy?”
“Exactly! They have chosen their path, let’s not chase after them and be hurt,”
“Hmmm,”
She was beaming, contented when he finally decided to leave their shadows but the question was- Did he? Really?
