Chapter 31
“Don't worry, Ethan, there's no way Lilian knows Daniel!” Nelson continued, his eyes sparkling with happiness at the thought of Lilian returning to the family. “All right, kid... Go after my granddaughter.”
Ethan's expression turned bitter when he heard his grandfather's words, which struck him to the heart: Lilian's boyfriend was Daniel Spector, and Nelson Legrand frowned when he saw Ethan's face sour.
“Ethan, don't tell me, from the look on your face, that Lilian's boyfriend is Daniel Spector?”
“Yes!” Ethan muttered.
Nelson fell silent at the same moment, his eyebrows furrowed as if he were thinking about something.
“Ethan, you still have a chance!” After a while, a slight smile appeared on his face, and he looked at Ethan.
“What do you mean by that?” Ethan asked, and Nelson immediately told Ethan about his chances.
Instantly, a big smile appeared on Ethan's face, and he agreed with his grandfather.
“Now, go, and bring Lilian back. And... can't you do anything about that woman named Mercadante? Why is the media always making a fuss about the two of you? That's not good for you if you want to bring Lilian back!”
“Don't worry, Grandpa, I'll take care of it!” Ethan frowned.
“You have to! Because if Lilian finds out about her, she'll hate you!” Nelson said.
He got up and dismissed Ethan. Then he went back to the library to call his best friend, Carlos Arbex.
At Unimeds Hospital, Lilian was still talking to her grandfather about Nelson Legrand's situation.
“Grandpa, I'm so sorry for him!” Lilian didn't know how to continue the sentence and could only take a deep breath as she looked outside, trying to hide her teary eyes.
Carlos could see the sadness in Lilian's eyes, and it worried him.
“Lilian, look at me,” he asked, and Lilian finally looked at him. “You don't need to feel sorry for Nelson, because all of this is our fault. It all started because of a stupid bet we made when we were teenagers. And because of our stupidity, we made you suffer.”
Lilian tried to smile at her grandfather's words, but somehow she lost the ability to say anything.
“If you want to see that he's really okay now, you can go visit him. He lives in the condominium next door!” Carlos suggested to Lilian.
Although Lilian hated Ethan and his parents, she never hated or blamed Nelson, because when she was still married to Ethan, he was the only one who was good to her.
Lilian's eyes suddenly sparkled brightly as she looked at her grandfather, and she nodded in response. She really wanted to meet Nelson Legrand.
At that moment, as she looked at the door to make sure it was closed so that no one could hear what she was about to say, she took the initiative to tell him about her son.
“There's something I want to tell you, Grandpa!”
“Yes, but let's sit on the sofa in the living room, because lying on this bed for so long makes me feel like I'm really sick!” Carlos said with a laugh.
Lilian agreed and followed her grandfather to the living room, and was impressed to see him still walking straight, even though he was almost 70 years old.
He could pass for someone in his fifties, if it weren't for his wrinkled face and white hair.
“What do you want to tell me?” As soon as Carlos sat down, he looked at Lilian curiously.
“I want to introduce you to someone, Grandpa!” Lilian said with a warm smile, remembering her son, who was eager to meet him.
However, just before Lilian could continue her sentence, she was shocked to see the sad expression on her grandfather's face.
“Grandpa, why do you look...” Lilian couldn't finish her sentence when Carlos interrupted her.
“Do you have a new boyfriend?” he asked worriedly.
He wasn't against her having a new boyfriend, but he feared she would get hurt again, and he couldn't bear the idea of Lilian running away to another country.
Lilian almost choked when she heard his question.
“No. But I have a son...” She clarified hastily, and Carlos was taken by surprise.
He sat up straight, his gaze piercing, staring at Lilian.
“You have a son!?” His eyes sparkled with happiness, but suddenly his expression turned stern. “Who is the father of your son? Why didn't you tell me you got married again!?”
Lilian grew anxious when she heard how loud her grandfather's voice was. She gestured quickly to him, asking him to lower his voice, as she was afraid that her uncles and parents outside might hear the conversation about her son, Théo.
“Where is my great-grandson? Why didn't you bring him here?” When Carlos saw that she wasn't saying anything, he continued.
She was afraid that if they found out about Théo's situation, her shameless uncle might decide to enter into another business deal with the Legrand family again.
“Please lower your voice, Grandpa.” She begged, and Carlos Arbex nodded immediately.
“My son's name is Théo Arbex.” Lilian paused when she saw him smiling happily, as he was glad to know that she had given Théo her surname. “Théo is at the hotel with my nanny, Ana, remember her? And well, I didn't remarry, Théo's father is Ethan!” She continued when she saw him nod. “I didn't bring him here because I was afraid he would see what happened before, and also, I'm worried that they will take Théo to the Legrand family to make another deal.”
“You're right.” Carlos nodded in agreement. "Your uncle and your father are really shameless. It's better not to bring my great-grandson here!“ he said, worried and angry with his children.
”Yes, that's why I came alone today, to find the right moment for you to meet. And, Grandpa, I think if you're living in Village Dahma, it would be more appropriate, because I also intend to introduce Théo to Nelson Legrand."
“Perfect, my dear, I'll ask Nicholas to process my discharge from the hospital, and I'll go straight home today!” said Carlos enthusiastically. He looked around for Nicholas, but didn't see him. “Where's Nicholas?”
At the same time, the door to the officers' room opened and Nicholas entered carrying several bags in his hand.
