Chapter 60 Accident
Chapter 60 Accident
Laura's POV
“It’s all over the news already.” Gwen said while scrolling over her phone.
Brian was pacing back and forth in front of us. Occasionally howling out curses that ended with Jaxon's name. He turned on me.
“If only you had allowed me crush that stupid boy that night. He wouldn't have tried this.”
“I have had enough from him.” He barked and resumed his pacing again.
I glanced at my phone screen where I dialing Ryan's number. For the fifth or sixth time already. Where the fuck is Ryan!
I dialed Jenna's number. She picked up on the second ring .
“Hello Jenna.” I cupped the phone to my ear, while staring at the ceiling.
“Hullo, Laura are you there?”
“Yes, I am. Where's Ryan?”
“Ryan has just had an accident— we're at the hospital now.”
“What?” I jerked up to my feet. Brian paused his tethering and shot me a look.
“Where are you? Is he alright?”
She sniffed. “He's unconscious right now.”
Another sniff. “we're at St. Moguls.”
“Alright, I'll be there shortly.” The blood was pounding in my ear, as I tore up the stairs ignoring Gwen and Brian's questions, I slipped out of my gown and picked up a puffer jacket from the clothes rack which I threw over myself with a pair of denims. I bolted down the stairs.
“What's happening?” Gwen asked.
“Ryan. He's got in to an accident.”
“What!” Both Brian and Gwen screamed at the same time.
“Where is he now.” Brian asked picking up his car key.
“They are at St. Moguls, downtown.”
“Let's go then.”
We toppled out of the house, down the sidewalk and literally ran over to the car. Immediately we were safely in, I pulled out my phone again—and scrolled for Jim Hecter's number. My hands were shaking slightly as I gripped the phone.
Hot tears creeped to my eyes, I pulled the phone close to my face, though my eyesight was perfect. Perfect. But I still couldn't find Hecter's number.
A tear dropped down on the screen, I wiped it off hurriedly and scrolled down. Down. Down. Till I find his number saved Coach Hecter.
I clicked it and lifted the phone to my ear.
Brian revved the engine, his hands played over the steering wheel— the phone rang on.
He put the SUV in drive and hit the gas, the car swarm in an arc and sailed out of the garage.
The line clicked, a tired voice filtered through the speaker. “Hello, Laura. Are you alright?”
I swallowed the knot in my throat. “I'm fine Sir, but I'm not sure Ryan is.”
“Ryan? Have you heard from him.”
I squinted out through the window. He coughed over the phone.
“What about him, Laura are you still there?”
This was proving more difficult than I thought. My hands holding the phone were shaking.
How could I wake an old man from sleep to tell him, his only son had just had an accident?
I sighed and sucked in a deep breath before mustering the courage to tell him. “Ryan was involved in an accident, I'm on my way to see him now.” I said in a low, forced, hollow voice.
“What?”
I breathed deeply and repeated every word I had just said. “We're heading to St. Moguls hospital to see him now.”
“Jesus Christ! Tell me you're kidding right, Laura?”
“I wish I was.”
“Good God!” He sighed. “Alright, I'll meet you there.”
I temporary shoved aside all the thoughts of what the media were probably saying about me and what had happened tonight— what really mattered now was Ryan. We needed to save him at all cost.
Brian turned back and looked at me, as we drove along. A brief look, a sizing up glance. I tried to keep my fave straight, although my heart was in shambles.
“Are you alright.” He asked.
“I am.”
Gwen joined in. “This is all too much for one night, I'm terribly sorry Laur.”
My hands tightened round the phone.
“I already told you— what happened was not your fault.”
“I know you think it isn't, but I brought Williams along, when I shouldn't have.”
“With or without Williams. He still would have done what he wanted to do, it's not your fault Gwen.” Brian said.
I nodded but Gwen remained quiet, staring out through the windshield.
I turned back to the window and also stares out, at a night that seemed to be closing in on me. Really closing in.
We turned off the highway and pulled in to a long drive, passing trees on both sides. The next instant a large private Hospital vcame in to view.
St. Moguls!
Brian eased the car to a stop in front and we all skidded out, and marched in to the hospital. Two security agents stood outside Ryan's hospital ward. They nodded at us as we walked in.
Ryan was lying on the bed. An IV stand was next to the bed with a unit of meds hanging on it and a line running to his arms. He was still unconscious, his face white and frightened and labeled with several brown plaster foils.
I dragged in a deep breathe as we approached him. Jenna was weeping profusely at the foot of the bed.
I walked over and slid a hand over her shoulder.
“I'm so sorry Jenna.” I muttered, blinking back the tears.
Tears slid down from her face “We were on our way to meet you at the ball, when a truck ran over his car. I thought he broke his spine.” She said, sobbing in to a hanky, she held in her hands and buried her face in.
By now tears were already falling freely from my eyes. Ryan was more than just a manager, He was my savior. A friend, my backbone.
“I'm sorry Jenna.” I repeated.
Gwen drew close to comfort her as well.
While Brian strolled over to the window and drew back the curtains.
“We have a problem guys.” He called over his shoulder in an annoyed voice.
All eyes turned to him.
“What is it?” Jenna asked, sniffing back a tear.
“I think the paparazzis are outside, I can see a van.”
My back stiffened. Not now. Not here!
