Chapter 61 Blackout!
Chapter 61 Blackout!
Jaxon's POV
I sat in the dark, the light blazing on made me lift a hand to shield my eyes and squint at the intruder.
“Oh, Boss.” Reene gasped.
“Sorry didn't know you were in here.” She said though she really didn't sound apologetic.
I stood up and adjusted my tie.
“I slept here.” I explained.
“You what?” Her eyes fell on the desk, then back to my face. “Didn't you go back home after dropping me off last night?”
I shook my head. “I did but I came out later this morning.”
She nodded. I picked up a newspaper I had been reading from the desk.
“Did you see the story?” She asked.
I gave a small nod and squeezed the newspaper into a small ball in my hands and flung it in to the bin bag by the corner.
“I read it already— those bastards are crazy. I don't know who slipped them my number I've been getting phonecalls from them since morning.”
“They're not just calling. They're parked out in front of the office, it took me several attempts to slip in this morning. I contacted the police ofcourse, but even the police ain't really eager to chase them off.”
I walked from behind the desk, striding towards the door. “Great, so we're trapped in here.”
I wheeled around again and paced back to my desk, kicking out my feet angrily.
“Can't we sue them for trespassing or something?” I stopped and flicked a piece of carpet fuzz with my loafer.
“It's a tough situation, since they're not really trespassing. They're just stationed in front of the company and it's somehow legally within their right.”
“Have you contacted the D.A?” I shot another question at her, resuming my pacing again, with my chin tucked in to my chest.
“Yes, he's trying to work out something and..” She paused.
I looked up at her. Screwing my face. “What?”
“Your Dad called, he said to tell you to ‘get your ass home before he gets to you.’ or something like that.”
I knew that was long coming anyway, I had even refused to take his calls all day.
I was on the verge of saying something when Reene's phone rang up renting the air. She pulled it out from her purse and frowned at the caller. “It's Jenna.”
“Give it to me.” I picked up the phone from her and cupped it to my ear. “Hello, Jenna.”
“Good Morning Miss Reene..” She was saying, then she stopped dead in her statement. “Is this Mr. Jaxon on the phone?”
I gave a quick embarrassed glance at Reene then answered. “Yes, Jenna. You're speaking with Jaxon Fallon.”
“Just who I wanted to speak with.” She snapped. “With all due respect Sir, you're fucking crazy.” She began.
I gulped. Why was Jenna all worked up, she never really appeared to give a shit!
“I'm contacting my lawyers immediately, our contract is done. I'm filing a suit against you for abuse and sexual assault. How dare you lay your filthy mouth on her?”
Damn!
Reene hiked an eyebrow at me, curiously.
“I'm terribly sorry, please.”
“Tell that to the judge, you hear!”
This was getting us nowhere.
“Please can you get Ryan on the phone?” I asked.
“Ryan can't talk to you.” She snapped.
My face twisted in to a frown. “Can't or wouldn't?”
“Both?”
“What do you mean by that?”
“While you were keeping yourself busy with Laura last night. Ryan had accident.”
“What— an accident? Where are you now?”
“St. Moguls?”
“Is Laura there?”
The line went dead.
I returned the phone to Reene.
“Ryan had an accident.” I informed her.
Her eyes widened and her mouth formed the very questions, I couldn't give the answer to. “When and how?”
I shook my head. “The accident happened last night, but I don't know how it happened.”
“Do you think you can shake off those reporters. I don't want them tailing us down to the hospital.”
Reene tugged out her keys. “I'm offended you even have to ask.”
A half hour later, we were walking to Ryan's hospital room. My head was spinning with a whole lot of alarming thoughts. If we couldn't get the reporters out of the way before noon today. We would temporary have to close down operations and Dad was going to be hot on my neck for sure.
I nodded at the guards stationed outside the room and walked in with Reene in tow.
Jenna was sitting in a chair next to the bed, where Ryan was lying still. Stiff.
Laura was there as well. Why didn't Jenna say so?
She was standing right behind Jenna, her hand rested supportively on the latter's shoulder.
My eyes landed on the third person in the room and I frowned slightly. Why was he also here?
The man I had seen from that night, pecking Laura. Who was he, really?
He gave me a piercing look from where he sat by the window.
I ignored him and turned to Jenna.
“Hello, Jenna, Laura— How's Ryan?”
I made towards the bed.
“He's alright at the moment he didn't really sustain any serious injuries.” Jenna said coldly.
Was she still mad at me?
I looked up at her.
“I'm sorry about what happened last night.” I said.
“I don't think I'm the one you should be telling that.” She retorted in disgust. “And that wouldn't stop me from pressing charges against you.”
My gaze shifted and rested on Laura. “I'm sorry, Laur…”
“You. Don't. Fucking. Say her name!” It was the man. He shot up right from his chair and before I could process what was happening. He lurched himself at me. His fist connected with my jaw knocking me back several feets.
I felt my windpipe blow up as I doubled over in pain, clutching one side of my face. Which was already bloated and stinging with pain. Fuck!
“You think because you're some rich trust fund kid. You can lay your filthy hands on my sister, anyhow you want?”
So she was his sister and not the wife? I had really mistaken things.
I had just come to this realization, when another foot kicked me hard in the side. I winced and crumpled in a heap on the floor, groaning in pain.
“Brian stop, that's enough already.” Laura screamed at him, as he made to attack me again.
He halted in his tracks and glared at me.
I lay still, nursing my side which hurt so much from his last kick.
So he was just his brother after all.
I broke in to a laugh, causing tears to roll down my face.
I was really stupid to fall for that husband and married bullshit.
Another painful punch hit me straight in the back jolting me back to reality.
fuck!
He made to punch me again, but Laura held him back, dragging his arms while he stared as me as though he wanted to crush me.
“Allow me deal with this mother fucker!” He groaned, trying to shove Laura away.
I tried to turn on my back and raise my face to stare at them properly when another kick hit me straight in the face. The force hit me straight against the hard floor and I passed out.
