Chapter seventeen: You aren't my target
Catherine's mind raced with a mix of shock, anger, and fear as she absorbed the seer's words. The revelation that Sophie was not only a hybrid but potentially had royal blood running through her veins sent a shockwave through Catherine's entire being.
As Catherine made her way back to the palace, her thoughts consumed her. She couldn't help but wonder what Sophie's true intentions were. Was she planning to steal the Luna position from Catherine and take control of the pack? The possibility made Catherine's blood boil with anger.
When Catherine arrived back at the palace, her worst fears seemed to materialize before her eyes. As she entered the dining hall, she saw Tyler and Sophie sitting together, sharing an intimate dinner. The sight ignited a storm of emotions within Catherine - betrayal, jealousy, and an overwhelming desire to confront them both.
Taking a deep breath to steady herself, Catherine approached the table, her voice laced with barely contained anger. "What is the meaning of this, Tyler? Dining with Freya when I am not present?"
Tyler looked up, surprise evident in his eyes. "Catherine, I didn't expect you back so soon.Freya and I were just discussing pack matters."
Catherine's eyes narrowed as she turned her gaze to Sophie. "Pack matters, or matters concerning my position as Luna?"
Sophie's expression remained calm and collected, a hint of a smug smile playing at her lips. "Catherine, there's no need for hostility. Tyler and I were merely discussing the future of the pack."
Catherine's anger flared, and she slammed her hand on the table, causing the dishes to rattle. "The future of the pack? Do you mean to say you're planning to usurp my position as Luna, Freya? Is that your true intention?"
Tyler stood up, his voice firm but tinged with confusion. "Catherine, calm down. Freya has no intention of taking your place. We were merely discussing ways to strengthen the pack."
Catherine's eyes flashed with fury as she locked eyes with Tyler. "How can I trust your words, Tyler? I have just learned the truth about Freya origins and her potential claim to the throne. Are you aware of this? Are you aware of what she might be planning?"
Tyler's expression shifted from confusion to concern. He reached out to grasp Catherine's hand, his voice filled with sincerity.
Tyler's voice was filled with urgency as he spoke, "Catherine, where did you hear these rumors? Who told you that Sophie is a threat?"
Catherine's mind raced as she tried to come up with an answer. She couldn't reveal the source of her information, especially knowing that Tyler had expressed his dislike for seers. The memory of the maid's warning echoed in her mind, making her hesitate.
Unable to find the words to respond, Catherine remained silent, her gaze locked with Tyler's. His eyes searched hers, a mix of concern and confusion evident in his expression.
Tyler's grip tightened on her hand, his voice filled with determination. "Catherine, we need to trust each other. If there is something you know, you have to tell me. We can face this together."
Catherine's heart wavered between her loyalty to Tyler and her fear of his reaction. She knew that keeping the truth from him would only create further distance between them, but she also feared his rejection if he learned the truth about her visit to the seer.
Taking a deep breath, Catherine finally decided to trust Tyler and share her knowledge. "Tyler, I... I visited a seer. She revealed the truth about Freya, that she is a hybrid with potential royal blood. I didn't want to keep it from you, but I was afraid of how you would react."
Tyler's eyes widened in surprise, his grip on Catherine's hand relaxing slightly. "You visited a seer? Catherine, why would you go against my wishes? You know how I feel about them."
Catherine lowered her gaze, feeling a mix of regret and guilt. "I'm sorry, Tyler. I was desperate for answers, for a way to protect myself and the pack. I didn't know what else to do."
Tyler sighed, his voice softer now. "Catherine, I understand that you felt trapped and needed guidance. But we need to be cautious. Seers can be deceptive, and their visions aren't always reliable. We can't base our actions solely on their words."
——————-
Catherine took a deep breath, realizing that she couldn't reveal the truth about her visit to the seer. It was a risk she couldn't afford to take. Instead, she decided to come up with a believable explanation.
"Tyler, I apologize for creating unnecessary worry. It turns out that the information I received was nothing more than baseless rumors," Catherine lied, her voice steady and composed. "I shouldn't have let my imagination run wild and jump to conclusions."
Tyler's expression softened, relief evident in his eyes. "Catherine, I'm glad to hear that. It's important that we don't let rumors and hearsay cloud our judgment. We need to focus on what truly matters and work together to protect our pack."
Catherine nodded, a sense of guilt gnawing at her. She knew she was deceiving Tyler, but she believed it was necessary to protect both him and herself. "You're right, Tyler. We must stay united and not let anything or anyone come between us."
Catherine knew deep in her mind that Sophie was much more of a threat than anyone could visually see, while Tyler continued to warn Catherine all her attention was on Sophie who had a smirk plastered on her face all through the time….Catherine still couldn't believe Sophie was a hybrid and royalty pretending to be a maid this most definitely meant Sophie wasn't just her on an ordinary mission as she had thought.
After Tyler left the dining room and Catherine was finally alone with Sophie, Sophie walked up to her with a smirk.
“Don’t be too scared of what the seer told you, you aren’t my target…. Alpha Tyler is my target.” Sophie said to her before majestically walking away.
