Chapter Seventy-six

Chapter Seventy-six
Since Kaya isn't that little anymore, Harry and I usually let Vivian take him to school and back. They have gotten along pretty well. We kept extending Vivian's contract with us, only allowing her some days every month to visit her children, but I guess this will be her last year with us since she misses her children a lot and her mother is also getting older.
Today's different, though. Vivian usually comes back home before 12:30PM, but now it's already 12:50, and I can't help but worry about them. Or maybe they are just stuck in traffic. This is exactly what it feels like to be a mother; you'll get worried about your child even if they are just a minute late coming home.
"Georgia," Harry approached. "What's wrong? Why are you pacing back and forth?"
"Kaya's not home yet," I said.
Harry looked at his wristwatch. "It's already 12:51PM. I think we should go there." He held my hand, and we went outside. He opened the car's door and let me inside.
Harry sat on the driver's seat beside me, turned the engine on, and started driving. Kaya's school isn't that far, and 20 minutes late is too much even if there's heavy traffic. Harry looked so worried, especially when we saw that the traffic wasn't that heavy.
A few moments later, we arrived at the school and noticed that the gate was closed. Harry and I stepped off the car, approached the security guard, and asked if the class was over. My worries grew even stronger when the guard said yes, that class was over about an hour ago, and the children were sent home.
"Shit!" Harry cursed.
"Something wrong?" The guard asked.
"Our child. Have you seen a boy with curly auburn hair and blue eyes? He's this tall, wearing dark pants and a white top. His backpack is, well, it has Superman on the back." Harry looks so nervous or worried as he describes our son.
"Yeah. I think I saw him," the guard replied. "Is he the one with a nanny? That woman with curly black hair?"
"Yes, he is," Harry and I replied simultaneously.
"I think I saw them enter a black van," the guard said.
"Are you sure?" Harry asked.
My hand flew to my forehead in distress as the guard nodded. "Harry... Our son was taken away," I said.
"The police—we must report this." Harry held my hand, and we went back to his car. He drove to the nearest police station. He's in a hurry to talk to the female officer who asked for the description of our son. Harry described Kaya's appearance and also Vivian's.
After the inquisition, the officer told her friends to start looking around. "I'm sorry, ma'am and sir, but those people must have already gotten away since it's been an hour since they were gone, but we'll do our best to find your son. We'll inform the other stations about this. We'll get in touch with you as soon as we receive an update," she said.
Sitting down on the bench, I pressed the bridge of my nose. I can't remember when was the last time I felt this way was, but I'll never forgive myself if something happens to Kaya. He's just a baby. I've only seen this scene in Jason Statham's and Chris Evans's movies before. I never thought once in my life it'd happen to me. My child is kidnapped by someone we don't know.
"Those bullshit!" Harry cursed, sitting beside me. "I wonder what they want from us. Money? They can have all they want, but not our boy. I'll never forgive them if they hurt him." He put his one hand on my side, giving me a half hug.
Oh please, lord, don't let those bad guys do anything with our little angel. I prayed and prayed and prayed. Please don't take my little angel away from me.
A few moments later, Harry's phone rang. He hurriedly answered it and looked angry as he said a lot of curse words, which could deafen the one he's talking with.
"Who's that, Harry?" I stood up.
"The kidnappers, they have our child," Harry replied.
"Are they asking for ransom?"
"Um."
"How much? Is Kaya there? Can I hear him?" I lost myself in worries as I asked continuously.
Harry put his phone's speaker near my ear, and I heard Kaya's cry. "Oh God! Please don't hurt him."
The man on the other line laughed like a demon. "I won't, unless you don't give me what I want," he said. "And before further discussion, I want you to keep this conversation between us. No cops, no problem. Disobey, and you won't see your son again."
"Mommy!" Kaya screamed.
"Hang in there, little boy. Daddy and I will come to save you."
"Enough sweet talk," the man said. "It's time for serious business."
Harry took his phone back. "How much do you want?"
"You're so smart, Mr. Will, but you can't outsmart us. We know everything about you and your family, and there's only one way for you to get your beloved son back. Obey us. Don't be stubborn if you still want to see your little boy again," the man said.
I admit that this kidnapper is more cunning than I expected. First, he didn't want us to talk to the police, and now he's trying to make us dance on his palm, manipulating us like toys. But there's only one thing I hope: that he won't hurt Kaya.
"We will. Now tell me how much you want and where to meet us," Harry said.
"Patience, Mr. Will. Patience. We're still setting that up. We'll reach back to you again soon. Just don't forget our first rule: no cops, no problems," he said.
"We got it, and don't hurt Kaya," Harry replied.
"Your little boy got a nice name. By the way, you got a beautiful nanny here; maybe you won't mind if we play with her," he added before the line went dead.
"Fuck!" Harry cursed again.
