Chapter 478 Emily, Tonight You Will Die

"James, you're just..." Emily sighed, "so impossible."

Hadn't she been clear enough? Why was he still hanging on?

Right now, Emily regretted bringing up the earthquake from five years ago last night. If she hadn't mentioned it, maybe James wouldn't be so stubborn now.

James ignored her complaints and stepped forward, grabbing her arm. "Emily, make it clear. What exactly happened five years ago? Did you really not save me?"

He paused, then rephrased his question. "Did you really not think about saving me? Were you not worried about me?"

In his memory, it seemed like Sophia had saved him. He had later arranged for Andrew to investigate, and the results confirmed that it was Sophia who had saved him.

But even so, James still wanted to hear it from Emily herself. Even if she said she hadn't saved him, as long as she had the intention to, he wouldn't be so fixated on this matter.

Emily squinted, studying James's expression. "James, are you..."

She couldn't help but laugh. "Are you suddenly realizing you like me but can't get over it, so you're looking for a reason to ditch Sophia and start loving me?"

James's lips tightened as his thoughts were exposed. He stared into Emily's eyes for a long moment before asking, "What would you do?"

"What do you mean by that?" Emily was confused, not understanding how the conversation had taken this turn. What was he talking about?

James's lips remained tight. "I mean, if you found out that I really loved you and wanted to be with you again, what would you do?"

Emily was silent. She was stunned. What nonsense was James talking about? He loved her?

After a moment of bewilderment, Emily's rationality returned. She shook off James's hand. "James, stop joking."

James grabbed her wrist again, pressing her. "What if I'm serious?"

Not far away, Sophia watched Emily and James standing close together, her heart filled with hatred. How shameless could Emily be? They were divorced, yet she was still entangling with James. Tonight, Emily had to die.

Because of the distance and fearing James would notice, Sophia couldn't hear what Emily and James were saying. She only knew that James left, leaving Emily alone on the deck.

Sophia's face darkened as she walked over. Emily turned and saw her, sighing again. What bad luck did she have today? Why was everyone coming to her? Did they think she was easy to bully?

Emily didn't want to deal with Sophia and tried to leave, but Sophia blocked her path.

"Sophia, we're not that close, are we?" Emily raised an eyebrow. What right did she have to stop her?

"Emmy," Sophia smiled, "I know James divorced you for me, and you're angry, but we were good friends before."

"Are you kidding?" Emily retorted. "I don't think we were ever good friends."

Her words were sharp, but Sophia didn't get angry. Instead, she changed the subject. "What were you talking about with James just now?"

"Nothing," Emily said impatiently.

Sophia pressed on, "Were you talking about the earthquake from five years ago?"

She had been too far to hear clearly but had caught words like "five years ago" and "earthquake." Sophia couldn't tolerate Emily and James's entanglement any longer, especially with such sensitive topics. Tonight, Emily had to die.

"So what if we were, Sophia? It's none of your business," Emily said coldly.

With that, Emily tried to leave. Sophia grabbed her arm and yanked her back. Emily stumbled, her back hitting the deck railing. If not for the railing, she would have fallen overboard.

It was nighttime, and although the cruise ship was brightly lit, the sea was dark. If someone fell overboard, it would be hard to know where to rescue them.

Emily was furious. "Sophia, what are you trying to do?"

Sophia laughed. "I want you dead, Emily. Do you know that no matter what mistakes I make, James always forgives me?"

Sophia's face twisted with rage. "Because I told him that during the earthquake five years ago, I risked my life to save him, not you. Now, are you trying to use this life-saving grace to win James back? I tell you, forget it! James will always be mine! Emily, tonight you will die! Once you're dead, James will be mine forever."
