Chapter 479: The Person Who Saved You Five Years Ago Is Emily

As soon as Sophia finished speaking, she gave Emily a hard shove, sending her over the railing.

Emily was stunned by Sophia's sudden outburst and didn't react in time.

In that brief moment of shock, Sophia pushed her over the edge.

But Emily's reflexes were quick. As she tumbled over the deck railing, she instinctively reached out and grabbed at Sophia.

Caught off guard, Sophia was yanked forward and found herself being pulled over the railing as well.

She screamed in terror, flailing her arms wildly until she managed to grab hold of the railing.

Both women were now dangling over the side, with the turbulent ocean churning below them.

Sophia screamed, cursing, "Emily, you vile woman! Why are you trying to kill me?"

James was discussing investments with Nicholas when he heard the news about Sophia falling overboard.

A woman in a gown burst into the room, panic-stricken. "Mr. Smith's fiancée was pushed into the sea by Ms. Johnson. Ms. Johnson fell in too!"

James's face turned pale, and he immediately rushed towards the deck.

The previously lively ballroom fell silent at the woman's announcement, only to erupt into chaos again as James left.

"Oh my God, Mr. Smith's fiancée and ex-wife both fell into the sea! Who do you think he'll save?"

"Let's go see what happens!"

"We're going too."

"Let's go!"

Everyone in the ballroom hurried towards the deck.

By the time James reached the deck, someone had already shone a light over the dark waters.

The ocean was vast and tumultuous. James squinted, trying to make out any figures in the waves. After a moment, he spotted a blurry shape.

It was Emily.

Without a second thought, James dove off the deck.

In that moment, he completely forgot that Sophia was also in the water.

He also forgot how Emily had abandoned him during the earthquake five years ago.

All he could think about was saving Emily, even if it meant risking his own life, just like during the earthquake.

In the ocean, Emily struggled to stay afloat amidst the waves.

In a daze, she saw James's figure plunge into the water.

James was in danger!

Emily's body tensed, and she instinctively tried to swim towards him, wanting to save him.

But she quickly realized her own predicament.

She could barely keep herself afloat; how could she possibly save him?

Was this how it would end for her and James?

Five years ago, they survived the earthquake's ruins, only to now face death together in the ocean.

The next moment, Emily lost consciousness.

When Emily opened her eyes again, she was in a hospital room.

Her mind was still foggy, but she could clearly hear Isabella's sobbing and her bitter complaints. "James is so unfair. Emmy went through so much for him, and he completely ignored her, only caring about saving Sophia!"

Emily remained silent.

Her mind gradually cleared, and she began to understand what Isabella meant.

So, while she was on the brink of death, still thinking about saving James, he had risked his life to save Sophia?

She couldn't help but smile bitterly.

Sophia had claimed that James treated her well because she had saved him during the earthquake.

How could that be? If he didn't truly love for her, why would he be with her and risk his life to save her?

Tears streamed down her face.

She thought she had become wiser since the moment she asked for a divorce.

But this fall into the sea showed her she was still the same fool. She vowed never to do something so foolish again.

Isabella soon noticed Emily was awake and immediately stopped talking, worried that Emily had heard her.

Emily smiled weakly and reached out to Isabella. When Isabella took her hand, Emily spoke softly, "Mom, I want to leave the country as soon as possible."

Emily left the country five days later, on a sunny day.

At that time, James was still unconscious in the hospital.

He had been severely injured while saving Sophia and had been in a coma for five days.

In the hospital room, the Smith family had been persuaded to leave by Andrew, who stayed by James's bedside.

When James's eyelids fluttered, Andrew almost thought he was imagining it.

When James finally opened his eyes, Andrew realized he was truly awake.

"Mr. Smith." Andrew grasped James's hand, overwhelmed with emotion.

James stared at him for a long time before speaking, "Back then, during the earthquake, who saved me?"

In his coma, he had a vague dream where he and Emily were trapped in the rubble.

Emily had cried and despaired countless times, but she persevered to keep him alive.

In the end, she had dug a path to save him with her own hands.

Andrew hadn't expected James's first question upon waking to be this.

Tears welled up in his eyes. "Mr. Smith, it was Ms. Johnson. I found a letter among Zachary's belongings, written to you when he still had the strength. He said he initially got it wrong, but after meeting Ms. Brown, he was certain that the person who saved you wasn't Ms. Brown, but Ms. Johnson."

James fell silent.

So it was true?

All these years, he had wronged Emily.

"Emily." James murmured. He then struggled to sit up, but his injuries were too severe, and he couldn't manage it.

"Mr. Smith." Andrew tried to dissuade him, but James clung to his hand, interrupting, "Where is Emmy now?"

Andrew pressed his lips together. He had planned to find the right moment to tell James about Emily's whereabouts, but now wasn't the right time.

However, seeing James like this, Andrew couldn't bear it: "Mr. Smith, Ms. Johnson is leaving the country today."

"Take me to the airport. Hurry!" James urged.
