Chapter 334 Find Adrian
Chapter 334 Find Adrian
"He planned to kidnap her," he said quietly, but with how silent the house was, Mrs. Cole heard him clearly, and her eyes widened in shock.
"He wanted to take Rebecca away and force her to marry him," he added, and for several seconds, Mrs. Cole couldn't speak. She simply stared at Henry, her mind refusing to accept the words she had just heard.
She couldn't believe that her son, her own Adrian, the same boy she had spent years trying to understand and protect, had actually planned something this serious.
She slowly lowered her head, her fingers trembling slightly as she clasped her hands together. She was shocked and angry. She felt angry at Adrian for going that far, angry at Henry for not telling her anything, angry at the people she had paid to monitor him for doing practically nothing, and she was also afraid of what the Hemsworth family might do, but beneath all of those emotions was something else that hurt even more.
Guilt.
"So all of this has been happening," she finally said, lifting her eyes toward Henry, "and you didn't think I deserved to know?"
Henry immediately looked down.
"Mrs. Cole..."
"How could you not tell me?" she asked, her voice shaking as the shock slowly turned into anger. "How could you know that Adrian was planning something this serious and still keep quiet?"
"I honestly didn't think he was serious at first," Henry admitted. "I thought he would eventually lose interest in her, just like he had with some of the women he had been involved with before."
Mrs. Cole stared at him in disbelief.
"You thought he would simply fall out of love with her?"
"I thought he would especially after she got back together with Derek," Henry replied quietly. "I was wrong."
Mrs. Cole shook her head.
"You should have told me, Henry," she said firmly. "You know Adrian, and you know how he can become when he wants something, so you should have known that keeping something like this from me could only make the situation worse."
"I know," Henry said quietly. "I should have told you."
Mrs. Cole stood slowly, picking up her handbag from beside her.
She looked at Henry, and although she was still disappointed that he had kept such an important truth from her, she no longer had the energy to argue with him, she had more important things to do now.
"Thank you for telling me," she said quietly, before she began walking towards the door.
"Mrs. Cole, what are you going to do?" he asked curiously as he slowly followed behind her, he wanted to know her next plan of action because he, too, had been trying to reach Adrian for some days now.
She stopped near the door and looked back at him.
"I'm going to find my son," she replied. Her voice was firm, but there was still fear underneath it.
"I need to know where he is, what he has done, and what has happened to Rebecca, because if Adrian has truly gone this far, then I cannot sit back and pretend that everything will somehow fix itself."
Henry nodded silently, while Mrs. Cole turned toward the door, but before she stepped outside, she suddenly stopped, her expression changed as another painful thought entered her mind.
She remembered Adrian as a child. She remembered the times she had been too busy to sit with him, the moments when he had wanted her attention and she had assumed that someone else would take care of him, the times she had focused on providing for him instead of holding him and reminding him that he was loved, and the moments when she had placed work before him.
She had spent years trying to protect him from the world, but perhaps she had never stopped to ask whether he felt protected by her. And now, somehow, she couldn't stop wondering if she had failed him.
"Maybe..." she whispered under her breath, her eyes filling with tears, "maybe this was my fault. I should have loved him better."
Henry heard her and immediately shook his head.
"Mrs. Cole, please don't blame yourself for what Adrian chose to do."
She turned and looked at him, her eyes filled with pain.
"He's my son, Henry," she replied softly. "Whatever he has done, I can't stop wondering whether something I did or failed to do helped create this." She wiped away the tears gathering in her eyes before taking a shaky breath.
"But I cannot change the past now. All I can do is try to stop him from destroying his future," she murmured softly before she opened the door and stepped outside, after which she walked quickly toward her car, her mind racing with everything she had just learned.
The Cole family might have money, they might have influence and power, but none of that would protect Adrian if he had truly crossed the wrong people.
Everyone knew the Smiths and the Hemsworths, and no matter how powerful the Cole family was, no one simply hurt a member of those families and expected to walk away without consequences.
When she reached her car, she opened the door, but before getting inside she paused briefly as she looked upward, as she offered a silent prayer to God. She needed strength from above for whatever was to come next.
"My God," she whispered, her voice breaking. "What have you gotten yourself into, Adrian?" she murmured softly as she got into her car, her mind already racing with everything she needed to do.
She needed to find Adrian, she needed to understand exactly what he had done, she needed to correct whatever damage he had caused before it became impossible to fix, and most importantly, she needed to find a way to make sure the Hemsworth family did not decide to take matters into their own hands.
As she started the car, Mrs. Cole looked ahead with a worried expression. She could only hope that she wasn't already too late.
