Chapter 333 Perfect Plan

Chapter 333 Perfect Plan
Henry took a slow breath before beginning, his eyes dropping briefly to the floor because even though he had already decided to tell Mrs. Cole the truth, saying everything out loud still made him uncomfortable, especially because he knew there was no way to make what Adrian had done sound less serious than it actually was.

"A few months ago, Adrian came to me and told me that he had fallen in love with someone," Henry began carefully, his voice low and serious. "He told me that he had met her and that after spending some time around her, he started feeling something he had never really felt before, because according to him, whenever he was close to her, his mind became quiet, he felt calm, and for the first time in a very long time, he felt almost normal."

Mrs. Cole listened carefully, her eyes fixed on Henry as she tried to understand where the story was going, but the mention of Adrian finding someone he loved immediately reminded her of the conversation she had once had with her son, and something about Henry's words made her heart begin to beat faster.

"He told me that he believed she was the person he wanted to spend the rest of his life with," Henry continued, "and for about a week, he was happier than I had seen him in a very long time, because whenever he talked about her, there was this strange excitement in his voice, and he kept telling me that being around her made him feel like he didn't have to fight his own mind every second."

Mrs. Cole's expression softened slightly as she listened, because despite everything Adrian had done, she was still his mother, and hearing that there had once been someone who made him genuinely happy brought back a painful mixture of memories and regret.

"But after that week, Adrian found out something about her," Henry continued, his voice becoming more serious, and Mrs. Cole immediately noticed the change in his voice.

"What did he find out?" she asked.

Henry hesitated briefly before answering.

"He found out that she still had feelings for her husband. That was when I'd realized it was Rebecca he'd been talking about all these while."

Mrs. Cole's eyes widened slightly. No wonder everything sounded so familiar to her. Before Henry could continue, she interrupted him.

"Rebecca who?"

Henry looked at her for a moment, almost as if he already knew that giving her the answer would change the entire conversation.

"Rebecca Hemsworth," he finally said after a few seconds of silence.

Mrs. Cole froze, and for several seconds, she didn't say a word as the room suddenly felt strangely quiet around her and the name echoed inside her mind.

"Rebecca Hemsworth?" she repeated slowly, almost hoping that she had somehow heard him wrong, but the truth was confirmed when Henry nodded slowly.

"Yes, ma'am," he replied.

Mrs. Cole slowly sat back against the couch, her expression filled with shock as memories came rushing back to her.

She remembered how she'd talked to Adrian on phone when she'd discovered he'd not been taking his drugs and Adrian had told him he didn't need them anymore because he found someone.

She remembered how shock she'd been when he'd mentioned her name and she had told him that he needed to forget about Rebecca, that there were countless women in the world, and that he should not allow himself to become attached to a woman who was already married.

She had tried to reason with him and had told him that whatever feelings he had for Rebecca, they could not lead anywhere good. She had even warned him about crossing families as powerful as the Smiths and the Hemsworths. She had even gone as far as to tell him that if he truly loved her, then he needed to respect her marriage and allow her to live her life.

Adrian had listened without saying much.

She had thought that because he had not argued with her, that perhaps her words had reached him. She had believed that her son would listen, she had believed that he would eventually let Rebecca go.

Now, sitting in Henry's house and realizing that Adrian had ignored every warning she had given him, Mrs. Cole felt a cold feeling settle in her chest.

"You do know who Rebecca's husband is, right?" she asked quietly.

Henry nodded.

"Yes."

Mrs. Cole looked away for a moment, her mind struggling to process everything.

"I warned him," she whispered, almost to herself. "I told him to stay away from her."

Henry remained silent.

"I told him she was married," Mrs. Cole continued, her voice becoming weaker as guilt began to creep into her heart. "I told him there were other women, women he could love without destroying someone else's marriage, and I thought he understood me."

She slowly shook her head as she added almost brokenly, "I thought he would listen."

Henry took a breath before continuing.

"He didn't," he murmured, causing Mrs. Cole to look back at him. She needed to know everything that happened after that.

"What happened after he found out she was married?"

Henry's expression became serious again.

"At first, he had known she was involved with Derek but had just approached her" he said. "He didn't want anything to do with her, only business and to know how to deal with Derek. But when he realized he loved her he couldn't get past the fact that he finally find someone who made him feel normal but she already belonged to someone else. I never knew any of this, otherwise, I would've talked him out sooner."

Mrs. Cole frowned. She didn't like the sound of that.

"She didn't belong to anyone," she corrected quietly but firmly. "She was married, but she was still her own person."

Henry nodded slowly.

"I know, ma'am, but Adrian didn't see it that way."

Mrs. Cole closed her eyes briefly.

"What did he do?" she asked quietly.

Henry hesitated.

"He became obsessed with finding a way to have her."

Mrs. Cole opened her eyes again.

"Henry..."

"He started thinking about ways to get Rebecca away from her husband," Henry continued, his voice filled with regret. "I think my mistake was not talking to him enough, though I doubt it would have made any difference, seeing how, in his mind, he had already decided that Rebecca was the person he was meant to be with."

Mrs. Cole's face slowly became pale the more she listened to him talk.

"And then?" She urged, she needed to know where this conversation was heading to.

Henry swallowed.

"Then Adrian came up with what he believed was the perfect plan."

He paused while Mrs. Cole continued staring at him, waiting for what Adrian had planned to do, or rather, what he had already started doing, but still hearing the sickening thoughts her son had harbored towards another man's wife made her feel sick to her stomach.

Henry took a deep breath before he broke the final straw.
