Chapter 102 Insanity Has its Perks

Chapter 102 Insanity Has its Perks
“For the hundredth time Agnes, are you okay?” Nicole asked, worry clouding her annoyance. “And I swear to God if you say yes one more time, I will bloody drown you,”

“You have some really massive bags under your eyes.” Finley pointed out.

Like I already didn't know.

After the whole reveal with Zeibar, I couldn't get a wink of sleep. Granted he did say he wasn't going to tell anyone, but did my brain fucking care? No. Did I care also? No.

Why?

Because I couldn't for the life of me, find it in me to trust the sky bastard. I mean, what was there to trust.

Every smiling face. Every passing shadow. Every hushed whisper and every single glance made me feel suspicious.

I looked like someone who was on crack… hell I looked like a crack abuser, and it was funny in the sense that you can't even abuse crack cos it's literally not a prescribed drug to be taken in the first place.

Just one night, and dark circles clung to my eyes like a sack of bullshit. I couldn't for the life of me stop biting my nails. My hair was in a disarray and I couldn't stop tapping my feet.

I was an agent for crying out loud. I was supposed to keep my cool no matter what. Some stupid human who didn't know shit would want to say that but do those motivational speeches really apply to the fucked up situation I was in? No.

Why?

Because I was already caught.

It would be easy to keep my cool, if the said person was suspicious of me, not when he said it straight to my face.

You know what other things would have been easy, it would be disposing of the person to protect my secret, just like they do in the movies.

But sadly, this wasn't a movie. The offending person in general could kill me on the spot if I decided to personally make it his time.

I was in deep shit and I couldn't even stop to think.

“Aggy,” Nicole called, touching me.

I shook violently, eyes moving from her to Finley and Abel. They all stared at me worriedly.

“Seriously Aggy, you need to get some rest, what is wrong with you today,” Nicole said, stepping closer and touching my forehead.

I slapped her hand instinctively. “I'm fine,” I murmured.

“Bullshit, you don't look fine at all, you looked much better yesterday when we were fighting for our lives.”

“I said I'm fine jeez,” I snapped, then pursed my lips in annoyance. “I'm sorry I need to go,” I walked away quickly.

Did I know where I was going?

No.

I guess I just needed some space.

I turned the corner, and wedged myself behind the water tank.

I slowly sank on the floor, eyes brimming with tears as I stared at the sky.

I didn't know how long I sat in that position until the voice that had been tirelessly calling my name for the past five minutes came closer to where I sat.

Marco stared at me with anger in his eyes. “You're here,” he said, dryly.

I groaned. “What do you want?”

“I've been calling for the past five minutes,”

“I know,”

He stared at me appalled, mouth parted slightly in astonishment. Then he scoffed sharply, rubbing his hand over his face. Probably willing himself to control his anger.

“Boss wants to see you.”

My heart immediately started its ferocious drumming. My stomach twisted with unease.

“What for?” I asked, quietly.

“Do I look like I'm supposed to know that?” He asked, annoyed.

“Well I'm a bit si-”

“I don't care what is wrong with you, I will drag you to him if I have to, so as to maintain your dignity. Come with me,” he deadpanned.

“Fine,” I groaned, walking towards him. He turned around, leading the way.

A few minutes of twist and turn and he stood in front of a large double door.

He knocked twice.

“She's here boss.”

A gruff voice rang from inside.

“You can go in.” He said and walked away.

I stared at his retreating form with unease, then I slowly twisted the door knob, pushing the door open.

The room was a bit dark, but I could make out Ronan easily, due to the reading lamp.

He sat on a chair, papers strewn on the table in front of him.

I swallowed forcefully.

Sweat gathered on my brows almost instantly.

“What is wrong with you Fenton?” Ronan asked. “You reek of fear.”

“Uhh… I guess it's the after effects of everything.”

He sighed, dropping his pen. Gaze pinned on me.

Shit.

The eyes were the window to one's soul right.

Maybe, I could find out if he knows, if I just look hard.

“I guess Marco was right…” he murmured.

“Marco?” I echoed.

He leaned back on his seat and my gaze trailed the tattoos on his exposed chest.

“You look like you haven't slept in days, dehydrated, hungry. Nicole mentioned that you were fine and unarmed, you even went to see Alia.”

He folded his fingers under his chin, eyes burning into me intensely.

Shit.

“That's why I know you're lying about it being some silly after effects. So tell me… what exactly is wrong with you?”

I licked my lips, fingers drumming against each other.

He exhaled.

“I won't be getting anything out of you the way you are right now, so… get some rest.”

I closed my eyes in relief.

I'm guessing Zeibar really didn't tell him anything then.

I nodded stiffly and proceeded to walk out.

“Where do you think you're going?”

I stopped.

“To… rest as you said sir.”

“I forgot to mention there's a big bed in my room that I am currently not using so… you can rest there.”

I blinked, lips parted in surprise.

“I don't understand sir.”

“I presume the walk to your quarters might be too much of a strain on your body… so you can sleep here.”

“It's really no bother—”

“Once you wake up, I'll have someone bring something for you. After eating, then we can talk.”

“I'm really fine sir—”

“Don't make me repeat myself Fenton, I have a lot of work on ground right now.” He cut in sharply, with a wave of finality.

I stared at the big bed by the corner, and began walking towards it.

For some reason the bed seemed to be positioned in an angle where the person laying on it would be visible where he sat.

I gingerly climbed the bed, making sure to face away from him.

A soft moan left my lips as soon as my body hit the bed.

It smelled like him, earthly, male… with a hit of something tangy.

My body relaxed completely, eyes drooping close.

I turned around, hoping to find a better position and my eyes locked unto his.

My heart skipped a beat and slowly began slamming against my chest.

He dragged his eyes away from mine, focusing back on his earlier task.

“Sleep Fenton.” He said, softly.

And almost instantly… my muscles relaxed, giving into my needs as my eyes snapped shut.
