Chapter 101 Chapter 101 - The Big Reveal
The tips of my fingers tingled from suppressed fear, my tongue felt heavy almost as though there was an iron rod wedged into it.

My breathing came out in heavy pants and I struggled to swallow the spit that had lodged in my throat like a plank of wood.

He tsked annoyed. "How many more minutes do you need to process the shock, I'm slowly losing my cool Fenton"

Fenton...

Maybe, he doesn't know everything.

Don't be stupid Mara, obviously he knows everything... Still he keeps calling me Fenton not Voss, which means...

I slowly walked towards him, my steps felt heavy, almost as though I was wearing a hundred pounds of armor on my feet.

I slowly took my seat beside him.

"Glad to see you finally came around" he said smiling, his slanted eyes squeezed shut slightly, giving him this boyish expression as though he were a kid and he couldn't hurt a fly.

"If you know so much already, why are you even bothering with me..."

Why didn't he tell Ronan already?

He cocked his head to the side inquisitively. "You think he doesn't know already?"

Tears welled up in my eyes suddenly.

"I'm guessing you just found out then" I said, voice shaking.

"Please don't sell me short Fenton" he said, waving his hand thoughtlessly. "I knew from the moment you walked into my home... Granted I wasn't sure about the full details but I had my suspicions"

I closed my eyes in defeat.

The moment I stepped out of this door, it was going to be the end of me. For some reason... I found myself already missing the friends I made here than the ones outside.

Not like I had any to begin with.

Nicole, Finley, Marshal, Anthony, Abel.

Ronan.

I could almost imagine the looks on their faces, it wouldn't matter that I risked my life to save their boss or that I truly didn't want it all to end like this.

It wouldn't matter what I say...

The truth was that I betrayed him.

"You don't need to look so gloomy," Zeibar said, breaking into my train of thoughts. "It's not like he knows already"

I blinked.
My head snapped towards him with unnatural speed, I could swear I heard a crack.

"What do you mean by that?"

"You do know my brother is not dumb right, when I asked if you think he doesn't know already, I don't mean literally. Like me, he has his suspicions" he poured a drink into two cups and handed one to me.

Then he placed his legs on the table and sipped his wine slowly then exhaled softly. "For the life of me I can't seem to understand why he's not acting on it though"

For the first time since we began conversing, he looked... Genuinely confused, his brows pinched tightly as he stared at the wall in question.

My mind reeled back to when he had asked Ronan why I was still alive... And suddenly everything started to click in place.

"It's almost as though he's putting more effort in trying not to know... I've asked myself why he would choose to disregard his instinct, I've looked at it from every angle and I can't seem to wrap my head around the why" he groaned exasperated.

"Everything, every scenario, every thought of mine keeps coming back to one reason"

This time he stared at me with an unfamiliar emotion then shook his head.

"Even imagining it is putting a dent to my reasoning" he scoffed, chuckling humorlessly. "But that seems like the only reason... The ultimate reason, wouldn't have thought even my ice cold brother would fall that low and walk hand in hand towards his own doom"

From the moment he stared at me, I was already lost. "What do you mean?"

"Nevermind Fenton, you'll know soon enough" he swirled his drink and downed it all in one go. He clicked his tongue as if familiarizing his taste buds with the drink.

"You can leave, my guests should be here soon enough" he said, with a wave of his hand.

I stared at him for a brief moment, then stood up slowly.

My mind kept screaming all sorts of questions but the one that stood out most was the "why" I was aching to know but instead I willed myself to walk away.

"And you can rest assure that no one knows and neither will they..." He paused. "At least not from my lips anyway"

I turned towards him in surprise, what exactly was his goal?

"You're not going to tell Ronan?"

He scoffed. "Like I said... He must have a good reason for choosing not to pursue his suspicions Fenton, the best I can do as his brother is to not trample on his decision"

He smiled coyly this time. "I would also love to see where all this is going and how it ends"

He turned on his phone and stared at the screen, I took that as my invitation to go and walked towards the door.

I had just turned the door knob.

"After all..." his voice stopped me in my tracks, "there's no better feeling than when the actor sits to watch his own movie as an observer, don't you think so Mara Voss"

I turned to look at him but he was already staring at me with a playful grin. "Go on now, my guests would be here any minute" he turned away and focused his attention back on his phone.

This time, fully done with me.

I exhaled steadily and pulled the door open, slipping out of the room.
