Chapter 83. Awake

Levi,

Luca walks off without us talking, and I know what he is feeling. I don't think Barrett deserves a proper funeral, but Chase and his family should be the ones to decide that. I did it for them, not Barrett.

"We need to go get the kids and Emma from the treehouse," I tell Chase. I head to the house to get some of the women to get areas ready for the children. We have an orphanage, but it has not been many children there. With not many children, we didn't have but one woman who ran it, and she will need more help with this many children.

It doesn't take long, and the women have gone to set up the orphanage, and we are headed to get the kids now that everything is safe and they have somewhere to stay.

"Does Rod know that Emma has been here at the treehouse?" Chase asks as we make our way to the treehouse.

"Yeah, he is already there and waiting on us," I tell him as we continue. I could hear laughing as we got closer. That's a good sign, I think to myself. When I got where I could see the children were now out of the treehouse and now are standing outside with Rod and Emma. I am glad that Emma is awake now. They heard us, and everyone turned to see who was coming almost simultaneously. They looked funny, all turning like robots at the same time.

"You guys ready to head home now?" I ask, talking to everyone, but before anyone could say anything, I see Jacob running to me.

"Katie is still in the treehouse. I can't get her up." I take off and up to her. She is lying on her stomach, so I roll her over. I keep her back off the floor. She is breathing, but the breaths are labored. I pull her close to me and leave the treehouse.

"Get these guys to the packhouse. I will meet you in the back as soon as I can. Have the women bring food for the kids." I tell Chase and Rod as I make my way as fast as possible to the pack doctor. I slam the doors open and holler as I get inside. Julie, the pack doctor, comes rushing over.

"What happened to her?"

"She was whipped, but other than that, I am not sure," I tell her. Then, she starts barking orders, and others start moving, and I am in the way, so I step back to let them work.

"I will let you know as soon as I know what is wrong and how she is." She tells me, and I make my way back out of the hospital. I want to scream and punch something. How could they do this to a child? I try to calm myself down by telling myself that one of the people dead is the one that did this as I make my way to the house to check on Raine and Flo after everything. I go to da....... I mean Flo's room first, and when I get to the door, I can hear Mia crying. I push the door open and see Flo sitting on the bed with Mia in her arms, and they both are crying. They don't even notice I am at the door. My heart breaks for them both. I know what Mia is feeling right now, and Flo, I could not imagine. She has lost her mate, her everything, and the worst part is this is the second time this has happened to her. She has lost her first mate and her second chance mate. I turn and leave to give them space so that I can check on Raine.

I hope she is awake. I need to know what happened, and I need her right now. I hear a soft noise as I enter the room. Luca is already in the room, and he is on his knees beside the bed with her hand in his with his head laid on top of their hands. I know the soft noise I heard was him crying. I can smell his tears. Part of me wants to drop down and cry beside him for the loss of our father and Raine being unconscious. But I know I can't do that. They all need me to be strong. Hell, the whole pack needs me to be strong. I don't speak; I walk around to the other side of the bed and kneel down beside it. I take her other hand in mine and let the comfort of her touch wash over me. I take a deep breath and try to calm myself more with her scent. When I do, I notice that Chase is standing at the door staring at her. I can see the longing in his eyes to be near her, too. I use my head and nod for him to come over. He looks from her to me then back at her. He slowly makes his way to the bed and kneels at the foot. He places both his hands at her ankles and bows his head just like Luca is doing. I do the same taking peace at the moment, and I feel something wash over me.

It's a power I have not felt before. I notice that the others must have felt it and are now looking up to it. I go to raise my hand off of hers, but I notice she starts to move before I can. I hold my breath waiting. She starts to open her eyes. They blink slowly, to begin with, never leaving the ceiling. She finally starts to look around. Her eyes lock with mine first, and I smile at her. she then looks over to Luca as he smiles at her, then she finally looks down the bed to see Chase, who is also smiling at her. She takes a deep breath then closes her eyes again.

"Come on, Raine, keep your eyes open, Love," I tell her.

"I Just need a minute," She says as I see the tears rolling down the side of her cheeks. I feel her hurt and pain but also her anger. It is strong coming through the mate bond. I look to Luca, and by the look on his face, he is feeling it too. Chase doesn't seem to feel it, but I assume that's due to them not being fully mated yet. Luca and I both reach for her face at the same time. We both wipe the tears as she takes another deep breath and sits up, face startling all three of us.

"Where is my mom?" She says as she looks between us, all three with panic.

"It's ok, love. She is in her room with Mia." I tell her as face as I can to calm her down. She swings her legs off the side of the bed, almost kicking Luca.

"I have to see her," Is all she says as she rushes up from the bed and to the door. None of us say anything. We only watch her as she runs to Flo.

"We need to talk," Chase says to Luca and Me after she is gone. Before I can respond to his request Julie, the pack doctor, mind links me.

"Levi, I need to see you now. It is about the girl."

"On my way," I tell her as I get up and head for the door.

"I have to go see the pack doc about one of the kids first," I tell them and rush to the hospital.
