Chapter 82. How Could You
Luca,
The rage that came over me as I watched my father drop to the ground and his packlink snap was unbearable. The howl that left my body and the rest of the pack snaped something else in me. I could see Raine as I started to make my way to Barrett. He would pay for what he has done. I felt Levi on the other side of me, and his rage was as deep as mine. We both in sink went after our prey. I let my wolf take over. We take the bottom half of him while Levi takes the top. I sink my teeth into his leg and rip. I feel the blood enter my mouth, and I relish in it. I hear the bone snap and feel a force holding him there. As he hits the ground, I see Levi has ripped his throat out. I look over when I hear a commotion.
Raine is walking, but flames surround her. I shift back and stand to watch. There are flecks of black in the fire. She is shooting flames at every person that is here with Barrett.
"We have to stop her," Chase says from beside me. I look back, and everyone is running and leaving except our people.
"Why she is taking care of the bastards that came with him," I say as I look back to Chase.
"This is what he wanted. Look, there is darkness in those flames." I look as Chase said, and he is right. But before any of us can try to get through to her, she stops. I see her looking around and at the trail, she has left behind her. Then she is on the ground before any of us can get to her.
I lay Raine down in her bed. She is still out, but her breathing is normal, and everything looks ok. It is like she is sleeping. I had Rod come with me to stand guard at her door until we got everything situated.
"I am going to go check on Flo and then go back outside to make sure that everything is secure," I tell Rod as I go to leave the room. Levi took Flo to her room while I took Raine. Chase said he would start to gather everyone outside and aid those who needed it. I got to Flo and dad's room, and I had to stop for a minute. His scent is still strong here. I want to cry, and I want to scream at the same time. Hell, I wouldn't mind punching something. I finally gather myself and walk into the room. Levi has Flo laid on the bed already, but he looks how I feel. He turns as I enter the room, and our eyes meet, but I am not sure what to say. So I walk over and place my hand on his shoulder as I look around the room. Things will never be the same. He was what held this pack and us together.
"We need to go to the saferoom. I am sure Mia needs us right now, and there is a lot that needs to be done." Levi says as he turns to go out. I don't say anything and follow him out. Finally, we reach the safe room, and I follow Levi down the stairs. He raps on the door loud but not too loud.
"It's Levi, and Luca open the door." He says, and it doesn't take long for the latches to flip on the door. Mia is the one to open the door. Her eyes are puffy, and the tears are still running down her face. She grabs Levi in a hug.
"Please tell me it's not true." She says as she smashes her face in his chest.
"I'm sorry, Mia." He says as he wraps his arms around her. I want to tell her it is not true that he is still alive, but I can't. I want to tell her everything will be ok, but hell, I am not sure myself if it will be. She finally lets go of Levi and looks at me. She comes and wraps her arms around me, and I do the same. I will be strong for her. She needs us, and so does Flo.
"It's going to be ok little sister, but I need your help right now. Ok, can you do me a favor?" I ask her in the calmest voice I can manage right now.
"What do you need?" She asks, trying to stop the tears.
"Flo is in her room. She is unconscious, and Raine is in her room, unconscious too. Do you think you could go watch over them while we go and make sure that everything is secure outside?" I ask her, giving her a small smile.
"Are they ok? What happened to them?" She says, and her anxiety jumps.
"They are ok. They need rest right now." She relaxes some and says ok as she heads to the stairs. I look back and see everyone else from the pack looking to us for answers.
"I think it is safer for everyone to stay in the house until we do a good check outside, ok. You don't have to stay in this room, but please stay in the house until we give you the ok to head back to your homes." I tell them, and everyone gives me a nod to let me know that they understand. Me and Levi both turn and make our way back outside. Several people are getting medical attention. Chase and some of his group are helping them. I notice there is a line of people laid on the ground. My father is one of them. They have laid them in a row and placed their hands on their chest. I recognize several of them. My dad's beta is one of them. There are fourteen in total. I notice on the other side of the yard is another group, but they are not laid out in a line like my pack members. They are just laid there to get them out of the way. They must have been some of Barrett's people. I look to see if I see the piece of shit. I finally see his body lying in the far part. Part of me wants to kick him and tear his body apart more, but I can't. I know that is not what I need to do right now. My dad would want me to pull together and ensure this pack is safe. I turn to find Levi talking to Chase, so I walk to see what is going on.
"We need to get the others in your pack hospital, and then we need to do something about this," Chase says as he looks over to the bodies.
"We will build a funeral pyre for our people," I say cause that is what we do as a pack to say our goodbyes.
"What about the others?" Chase says, but he almost looked scared to ask. I don't blame him.
"Are your parents still living?" Levi asks chase catching me off guard.
"Yes, they are," Chase tells him, but there was something that flashed in his eyes.
"Then you should take your brother home to them so that they can give him a proper funeral." I almost choke on my tongue at Levi's words. Why would he even want this man to have a proper funeral after what he did?
