Chapter 33: Home At Last

Chapter 33: Home At Last
                                               Remy’s P.O.V.

I went back to my room to change into a presentable dress for the elegant dinner Maddox wants to take me to. (Is this a date?) I asked myself before shaking  my head. (get that idea out of your head right now Remy, he just wants to do something nice for you as a friend). I picked out a light green dress with a low V-neck in the front that hangs just above the knees, I did my hair up in a French twist bringing a few strands of hair down around my face, I chose a light green eyeshadow and black liquid eyeliner and shaped my eyes into the infamous cat-eye look, black mascara and for blush a light pink with sparkles to enhance my cheekbones a night. When looking in the mirror at my self and satisfied with the way I looked I made my way downstairs to meet with everyone else. I didn’t shower since I did that before freshening up after unpacking my belongings.

I made my way to them as they are all gathered at the front door and as I approached them I hear the sound of two wolf whistles going off, looking in the direction that they are coming from I see Jett and Maddox staring at me, jaws dropped to the floor, and with what may look like love in their eyes (that is if I believed in love, for me I know it doesn’t exist).

“You look breathtaking!” Maddox said.

“Absolutely beautiful!” Jett said after finding his voice. “Ready to go guys?” Jett asked opening the garage door so we could get into the cars.

“Who do I ride with?” I asked Jett.

“You will ride with me, Maddox and your brother, Jake, Ken and Jackson will ride together in the other car.” He tells me as he opens the back door for me. Maddox gets into the front seat as Jett goes around to the drivers side and gets in, and Russell goes to the other side and gets in next to me.

“Looking good sis!” He says giving me his approval.  We drive down the street and straight for the highway onramp. Once we get to the bar I start shaking, Russ takes my hand and says. “Don’t worry sis, we are all here for you. We got your back!” Given the vote of confidence by my brother I get out of the car when Maddox opens my door for me, he then takes my hand and escorts me inside and to Aston’s office. I decided I am not going to let them get to me, I am going in there with my head held high, confident and in control. (I feel like I can take on the world when Maddox is at my side. I wonder why that is?) We all walk int o Aston’s office after Jett knocks on the door. We walk into the office, and I stay close to Maddox.

“Update!” Aston demanded.

“Well, when we got to their half-brother’s Orville’s house, he was nowhere to be found, and Jake and Ken had her in bed and dressed by the time we got there. She was asleep until she heard the sound of Maddox’s voice, but she wasn’t able to speak also she wasn’t coherent enough to form proper words until later. Maddox and I packed up her things, while Ken stayed with her and Jake connected you. This incident was brought on by an affair that she is or was having with a client of theirs. His name is Giovanni Amour, a married man who’s wife was going through Orville and his father’s company for a renovation of the downstairs of their house. We brought her back here to keep her and Orville apart.” Jett reported to Aston a summary of the details that took place between Orville, Gio and me.

“Who is this?” He asked Jett pointing at Jackson.

“This is Jackson, Gio sent him as an add on to her security detail. What is your last name, I don’t think Gio told us.” Jett answered Aston’s question and asked Jackson the question that no one thought to until now.

“Sir, I am Jackson Newman.” Jackson said.

“Ok, Remy when do you think you will emotionally able to come back to work?”

“I quit remember?” I asked him with my head still held as high as I had when I walked into the building.

“And I never replaced you, hoping that you would return. Please Rem, come back to work!” Aston pleaded with me.

“Ok, but no more possessiveness or controlling me. I am my own person, and I am to be treated as such.”

“Of course, anything you want. So, when will you return?”

“I am ok with tonight.”

“Ok, I will let Jess know.”

“I could do that since I do have a date with her tonight.” Russell said.

“You and Jess, you never told me!” I said to Russ.

“Sorry sis, but with everything going on and not wanting to give your location away I didn’t want to call very often. She agreed to it recently and by the time I got her answer Jett and Maddox was already on their way to get you. I figured since you were coming back home I would tell you then. Sorry you had find out this way.”

“Don’t be sorry, I think Jess is perfect for you.” I say as Russell looks over at Jett then back to me. (Was that supposed to be some kind of hint?) I think to myself until a voice snaps me out of it.

“Since the meeting seems to be over with, are you ready to go Rem?” Maddox asked me and an angered voice is heard from the back of the room Maddox and I turn at the sound of it to find Donavon who was quite this whole time looking very pissed off.

“WHERE ARE YOU TAKING HER?”

“None of your business Donavon!” Maddox says.

“I think it is my business since she is carrying my unborn baby!” He raises his voice at him.

“Just because I am pregnant with your baby doesn’t give you the right to know my whereabouts!” I firmly tell him.

“Maybe not Rem, but I just want to keep you safe.”

“Don, she has all the security that she needs.” Aston says defending me.

“Send someone with him, like maybe Jake?”

“No! I will not impose on their date or whatever this may be! You both can leave. The four of you stay and Russell go ahead on your date too.” Was the last thing I heard Aston say as the door closes behind Maddox and me.

As we drove through the city, Maddox remained quiet, his expression unreadable. When we finally arrived, I was taken aback by the restaurant’s elegance. Soft golden lighting spilled from crystal chandeliers, casting a warm glow over the white linen tablecloths and fresh arrangements of deep red roses at every table. The gentle hum of classical music floated through the air, and attentive waitstaff moved gracefully among guests, making the whole place feel exclusive and serene. I couldn’t help but feel a little nervous, surrounded by such sophistication, but Maddox simply smiled, pulling out my chair with a touch of old-fashioned charm.
