Chapter 54 Marry me, Carter
It was another busy day for Aurora in the restaurant, Carter could hardly see her outside the kitchen.
He sat at a corner in the waiting area, waiting for her to finish from work so they could go home together.
Carter found an apartment to move into not so far from Aurora’s. He was excited because he was finally getting away from Derick.
Though it was nothing close to easy for him, he was gradually starting to get his life together. A life without Derick.
He took a glance at his phone and saw it was 8 .p.m. already. He knew Aurora wouldn’t finish until after 10 .p.m., so he had to wait for another two hours.
It didn’t seem tiring to him because he often saw Jack come out of his office to the counter. His face was too cute for Carter to get bored of staring at it.
He could also see the chemistry between he and Aurora, even though she told him countless times that she wasn’t interested in any man until further notice.
Carter hated that he couldn’t get himself to like another man like he did when he first set his eyes on Derick.
‘If only I still had that fire, I’d have gotten another man to forget all about him. Forget how much he has hurt me and…’
“Hey.” A soft yet joyful voice interrupted Carter’s thoughts and he raised his head to look at who it was.
“Hi.” Carter answered as his eyes met with the hazel eyes of an unfamiliar yet handsome young man.
“Can I please sit here?” He asked, pointing to the chair in front of him.
“Sure. Of course.” He answered, wearing a smile as he watched him sit in front of him.
“I’m Jeremy. What’s your name?” He asked, stretching out his hand to Carter.
“Carter.” Carter answered, shaking his hand.
“I’ve been here for a while and I noticed you’ve been sitting here all by yourself. Are you waiting for someone?” He asked, and Carter shook his head.
His eyes were fixed on Carter, making him pretty nervous. He picked up his coffee cup and took a sip from it as he couldn’t keep the intense eye contact with the young man.
“Yes. I’m waiting for someone.”
“Your partner?” He further asked, causing Carter to raise his eyebrows in surprise.
‘He is really just going to dive right in, won’t he?’ Carter thought as he smiled and shook his head.
“I’m waiting for my friend.”
“Oh… why is your friend keeping you waiting for so long? You’re too handsome to sit here for hours.” Jeremy uttered, making Carter chuckle.
“You’re flattering.”
“I’m just telling the truth. I couldn’t take my eyes off you since I saw you. I’ve been here for over an hour, trying to come to you, but I was so nervous.”
“But you’re here now.”
“Yes, I had to. I saw you looking at your wrist watch and I was scared you’d leave anytime soon.” Jeremy further explained, and Carter nodded, letting out a soft grin.
Jeremy reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone. “Can I have your phone number? I’d love to know you more than this.” He stretched his phone across the table, towards Carter.
Carter swallowed and hesitated, staring at his phone. He wasn’t sure if he wanted Jeremy to know him more.
‘But I need to be distracted. I need someone to help me get over Derick as soon as possible.’ He thought as he decided to give Jeremy a chance.
Just when he lifted his hand to receive his phone, someone grabbed his hand from the side, stopping him.
Carter raised his eyebrows in shock and raised his head to see who it was. To his greatest surprise, it happened to be Derick.
Derick had a frown on his face as he stared at Jeremy.
“Who are you?” Jeremy asked, his phone still hanging in the air.
“I am his boyfriend. If you don’t mind, please leave. I don’t see myself plucking out someone’s eyes tonight.” Derick answered, causing shivers to run down Jeremy’s spine.
He looked at Carter and saw him staring at Derick. He couldn’t utter a word. Angrily, Jeremy stood to his feet and turned to leave.
“Ahole.” He cursed under his breath.
The muscles in Derick’s face relaxed after he saw that he had successfully gotten rid of Jeremy.
He went ahead to sit in the chair in front of Carter, staring into his eyes. His heart raced in his chest as they both stared silently.
‘I miss him so much.’ These words couldn’t stop ringing in Derick’s head.
“What are you doing here? How did you know where I was?” Carter asked, still surprised that Derick was sitting in front of him.
“I missed you so much, Carter. So so much.” He stretched forth his hand to touch Carter, but Carter moved his hand away.
“We are not doing this, Derick. Please leave.” Carter answered, gulping hard and lowering his head.
“Come back home, Carter.” Derick uttered.
“Come back home?!” He scoffed. “And what about your wife and kid?”
“Carter, I don’t have a wife. Yes, I have a kid, but that doesn’t mean I have to marry his mother.”
“And your parents?”
“I’m so done with them.”
“Oh please! You say this all the time, but you just stand there and do nothing when they say awful things to me. Listen, Derick, I understand your parents quite well, and I believe they want the best for you…”
“You are the best for me, Carter. I can’t live without you.”
“You have been living for more than two weeks now without me. You should do just fine.” Carter answered coldly, keeping his eyes off Derick’s face.
“No, I haven’t been living. I am now a drunkard. Tell me, Carter, is that living? I can’t stop thinking about you, you’re always in my head and every time I remember you’re not mine anymore I feel like killing myself!” Derick raised his voice, causing Carter’s eyes to widen.
He looked around nervously and saw that almost everyone was beginning to stare at them.
“Derick, you’re shouting.” Carter whispered, putting on a fake smile so people could look away.
“I love you, Carter! More than anything and everything! I need you in my life! I can’t live without you. I don’t care what anyone thinks but I want to spend the rest of my life with you!”
“Derick.” Carter called, trying to caution him because his voice grew louder than before. He couldn’t help but worry about the prying eyes around them.
“I want us to raise my child together. I would be a useless father without you by my side.” Derick added as he sprang to his feet.
He went down on his right knee, causing Carter’s eyes to pop wide open. “What are you doing, Derick?” His heart thumped violently against his chest like it was going to stop working anytime soon.
He pulled out a transparent ring box and raised it, revealing a very beautiful Diamond ring.
“Marry me, Carter.”
