Chapter 55 Always missed him
Carter’s eyes widened in awe, he looked around and saw people staring at them. Some were clapping, some had their phones out and some couldn’t stop smiling.
He looked up and saw Aurora and Jack standing next to each other, clapping and grinning widely too.
“Say yes!” Aurora yelled in a whisper, and Carter read her lips.
He had always wanted this. That Derick took their relationship to the next level and not just using his words but also actions.
“Please say yes.” Derick uttered, the emotions in his eyes weren't going to let Carter say no. His eyes shimmered with hope of the future with Carter.
Carter’s eyes heated up as he nodded slowly, smiling heartily at Carter.
“Yes?” Derick asked, and Carter nodded, chuckling with tears.
“Yes!” He answered.
“He said yes!” Derick yelled in excitement, and everyone in the restaurant applauded them. Smiling happily like it was their moment.
Derick’s hands shivered as he reached into the ring box and pulled out the ring. Carter could feel his hands shaking as Derick wore the ring on his finger.
“You’re shivering,” Carter muttered, and Derick raised his head to look at him. He stood up and pulled Carter in, cupping his face in his hands.
“Today is the happiest day of my life, of course I’ll fidget.” He whispered, moving his head closer to Carter’s.
He hastily stopped him before their lips could touch. “Derick, people are watching. Some are even recording.” Carter whispered shyly, lowering his head.
“Let’s get out of here then.” Derick suggested, and without hesitation, grabbed Carter’s hand and began to pull him out of the restaurant.
“Aurora!” Carter called on his way out, waving her goodbye. Aurora waved too, laughing happily.
“Finally,” She muttered, nodding her head in satisfaction.
“So this is why you kept him waiting for hours?” Jack asked, looking at her.
“If I didn’t pretend to be so busy, we would have left and Derick would have missed him. I had to do something to make sure they saw each other again. I hated that they had a misunderstanding. They are the cutest couples ever.” Aurora responded, staring into space.
Jack chuckled softly, feeling very stupid. He had always thought Aurora was in a relationship with Carter, but he was so wrong. She wasn’t even Carter’s type.
“Stupid me,” He mumbled, shaking his head.
“What?” Aurora asked after hearing him speak, and he shook his head.
“Oh, it’s nothing. Are you going home now?” He asked, and she nodded.
“Yes. Why?”
“I’m heading home too. Let’s walk together.”
Hitting the road home, Jack and Aurora walked in silence. They had different thoughts going on in their head.
Jack had so many questions to ask Aurora, while Aurora, though she was happy about Carter’s relationship, couldn’t help but feel jealous.
‘Why can’t my relationship with Arthur be like that? What are we doing wrong? Or am I the problem?’ She wondered, holding onto her tote bag steadfastly.
“What’s on your mind?” Jack asked as he noticed she wasn’t herself.
She raised her head to look at him and smiled. “It’s nothing.” She answered, but Jack didn’t believe this.
“C’mon, Aurora. You seemed lost. Is working stressing you out?”
“What?! No… no, of course not. It’s not work.” She waved and shook her head.
“Then what is it?” Jack answered with a smile.
“I… I was just thinking about Carter and Derick. They are so cute.” She uttered, and Jack raised his brows.
“Oh… Yes. They truly are. It’s crazy that I thought Carter was your partner…”
“What?!” Aurora uttered with laughter.
“I’m not kidding. You know the first time I saw him, he came to your apartment, and you were happy to see him, you embraced him and all. You’re always so happy to see him. I thought he was your man.”
“Of course, not. I’m just so happy when he’s around because Carter has such a vibe. But that’s all it is. He has his man.” She chuckled, and Jack nodded.
“Yes, he does. He found out today. I’m glad though.”
Aurora creased her brows and looked at him. “You’re glad?” She asked, and he giggled.
“So, I have a question. And it’s pretty personal. I don’t know if I should ask.” He responded, ignoring her question.
“What is it?” She answered.
“You once told me you were going to see your sons, right?”
“Right.”
“But you never mentioned who their father is. I mean, when I saw Carter, I thought he was the one, but now, it’s obvious he isn’t…”
Aurora butted in with a cute laugh and nodded. “You’re asking to know their father, right?”
“Hmm.” He nodded.
“Well, his name is Arthur. They live with him at the moment.”
“Why aren’t you with him too?”
“We broke up. I had to leave for some reason.” She lowered her head and fiddled with her fingers.
“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have asked.” Jack responded, instantly regretting he asked after seeing her reaction.
“No. It’s all good.” She answered, forcing on a smile as she raised her head to look at him again.
“You miss him, don’t you?”
Aurora clenched her jaws and gulped hard. Jack’s question made her drive down memory lane, remembering all the amazing moments she had with Arthur.
“I’ve always missed him, but I don’t think he feels the same way. He doesn’t even reach out to me.” She answered sadly.
Seeing her sad hurt Jack in a way that he couldn’t explain. He never wanted to see her sad.
“He doesn’t deserve you.” Jack muttered, causing Aurora to look at him.
“He doesn’t know your worth, Aurora. You shouldn’t be with that kind of man. A real man will do everything to keep you.” Jack added, and Aurora scoffed.
They got to their apartment and headed into the elevator.
“Thank you so much for the kind words, Jack. It did make me feel better.” She answered as they stood in the elevator.
“I didn’t say that to make you feel better, I said it because it’s the truth.” He answered, gazing into her eyes.
“You’re beautiful,” he took one step closer to her. “You’re charming, hardworking, compassionate, a good friend, a lover. What else can a man want?”
With every complaint he gave, he took one step closer to her, and by the end of his talk, he was just an inch away from her.
His words glued Aurora to where she stood, her eyes unable to move away from him.
“I like you… so much, Aurora.” He whispered. His gaze fell on her lips, staring at them hungrily.
He slowly lifted his hand and cupped her face.
“Jack, I…”
“Shhh.” He placed his finger on her lips, causing her to shut up. He dragged his finger down her lips slowly, loving how plump and soft they were under his finger.
His finger dragged her lower lips down, revealing the very pink inner part of her lips.
“I want to kiss you.” Jack whispered, tilting his head as he moved in for the kiss.
“Dang!” The elevator door opened and Aurora hastily pushed Jack away. He opened his head and stared at her in surprise.
“I can’t do this.” Aurora answered, running out of the elevator to her apartment.
‘What the hell just happened?’ She wondered, her heart racing in her chest.
