Chapter 53 What is his name
Two days passed and Anita refused to show her face at Arthur’s office. Arthur became extremely worried and at the same time, tried not to blow her phone off with his phone calls.
He expected her texts and calls but he got nothing. He feared something was wrong, but didn’t want to be too forward.
He believed that she’d reach out sooner or later.
Getting to the office on a Monday morning, Arthur got preoccupied with so many meetings and conferences, making it very hard for him to stay in his office.
Anita arrived in his office and sat next to his door as she always did, waiting for him. She waited so many hours, hoping he was going to show up and have her time, but she was wrong.
He was way busier than she thought. But she refused to leave. Instead, she kept herself busy on the phone till he had time for her.
It was seven in the evening and Anita was beginning to doze off on the chair she sat on. Arthur finally got out of the hectic meeting and when he got to his office, he found Anita seated.
His face lit up immediately when he saw her. Her head began to tilt slowly to the side as she slept. Arthur's eyes widened and he ran towards where she was.
He hastily squatted in front of her and grabbed her by the side before she fell off the chair.
“Anita.” He called as she slowly opened her eyes to look at him.
“Arthur. You’re here.” A smile slowly formed on her face as she sat up. She cleaned her sleepy eyes and reached inside her bag while Arthur stared at her.
“I made some biscuits.” She mumbled, pulling out the plate from her bag.
Arthur scoffed softly and shook his head. “Why didn’t you leave when you realized I was too busy?” He asked, collecting the plate from her.
“I didn’t want to go back home without seeing you. It’s been two days since we last saw each other.” She answered, grabbing her bag and hanging it on her shoulder.
Arthur's gaze moved from her face down to her neck, and he saw the marks around her neck were beginning to fade off.
“I’ll leave now.” She uttered, standing up.
Arthur nodded slowly and stood up, staring at her as she turned to leave. His breathing suddenly grew intense, his heart beating very fast in his chest as he watched her leave.
He couldn’t let her just go. Not when he knew something was up with her and didn’t know when he was going to see her again.
“Anita! Do you have something to do tonight?” He asked, causing her to stop.
She shook her head and turned to look at him. “No… why?”
“I’ll be leaving the office in a few minutes. Let me drop you at home.” He suggested, walking to his office door.
“No, you don’t have to. You’ve been busy since morning, I shouldn’t bother you.”
“It’s no bother, Anita.”
“But I ordered an Uber already.” She answered, reaching into her bag to grab her phone.
Arthur narrowed his gaze as he stared at her. ‘Why is she trying to push me away? What are you hiding, Anita?’
“Cancel it. I’m dropping you off. You’ve waited for me since morning. The least I can do is drop you at home.” He insisted.
He hurried into the office, grabbed his suit, briefcase and didn’t forget the bowl of biscuits before heading out again.
Fortunately, Anita still waited for him in the hallway. He smiled faintly when he saw she was still there and he pointed to the elevator.
“Let’s go.”
They got out of the company and he walked to his car. She sat in the front seat, while he settled in the driver’s side.
He gunned the engine and drove out of the company, hitting the road that led to her house.
Anita couldn’t help but stare at Arthur as she drove. She felt so happy within her that he finally cared about her. She had hoped to see this part of him and she succeeded in seeing it.
“Do I have something on my face?” Arthur asked as he could feel her gaze on his face as he drove.
“Yes.”
“Really?” He took a glance at her.
She chuckled and nodded. “Sweetness is all over your face.”
“Tch.” Arthur rolled his eyes, shaking his head. “I’m too tired to be teased by you, Anita.” He muttered, keeping his head on the road.
She let out a loud sigh and slightly lowered her head.
“I’m fine, Arthur. You don’t have to worry about me.” She uttered, gulping hard.
“How do you expect me to believe that? There are marks around your neck, Anita. You cried in front of me. You’re not a weak lady. I know you…”
“I don’t want you getting involved in this.” She butted in, throwing her face to the other side, staring out the window.
“How is that even possible? I was threatened by a strange man, remember? You refused to tell me anything about it. I’m involved already, and I need to know who he is so I can deal with him properly. I don’t even know his name. I have people to protect. The boys, Aurora…”
“The boys?”
“My sons, of course.”
“You have sons?!” Anita exclaimed in shock.
“What? Why are you acting so surprised? You act like you know everything about me.”
“Well, you never told me you have sons. Who is their mother?” She asked, and Arthur kept mute, making a U-turn into her street.
“Aurora. She’s their mother, right?” She further pried.
“Their surrogate mother.”
“Ohh… no wonder she feels so entitled.” Anita scoffed, rolling her eyes.
“What do you mean by that?” Arthur asked, taking another glance at her.
“Nothing. I mean, you should protect your wife and sons’ mother.”
“She’s not my wife.”
“But you plan on marrying her, don’t you?”
“Don’t change the subject, Anita. Who is that man?! Did he do that to you?” His gaze fell on her neck again.
Anita let out a deep breath and nodded, shutting her eyes as she had flashbacks of the horrible things that had happened to her.
“Why? Who is he to you?” Arthur further inquired, slowly parking the car.
Anita looked up and saw they were in front of her apartment already.
“Oh shit!” She cursed in terror, unbuckling her seatbelt.
“What? What’s wrong?”
“I forgot to tell you to drop me three houses back! He’s going to know you brought me home.” She muttered, her body shivering profusely, tears rolling down her eyes uncontrollably as she opened the door and alighted.
“Anita! Wait! What is his name?!” Arthur struggled with his seatbelt, hoping to run after her, but then, she ran into her apartment and shut the door against him.
“Fk!” He cursed, lifting his head to stare at her window.
