Chapter 131 He Just Doesn't Believe It Has to Be Her
Chapter 131 He Just Doesn't Believe It Has to Be Her
Rhys drove the car like it was a plane, reaching the nearest hospital as quickly as possible.
The moment the car stopped, Charles scooped up Olivia and ran toward the emergency room, shouting as he ran: "Doctor! Doctor!"
Rhys followed behind, wanting to remind him to slow down, but couldn't get a word in.
The doctors and nurses quickly wheeled out a gurney, did a rapid examination, and rushed her into the operating room.
Watching the operating room doors close and the light above turn on, Charles paced back and forth outside with no intention of sitting down to rest.
"Mr. Green..."
Rhys frowned, looking at Charles's anxious and restless appearance:
"The doctor just said Ms. Smith only has broken legs and hand injuries, no life-threatening danger. After the surgery and proper rest, Ms. Smith will recover quickly."
Charles knew all this very well.
But seeing the blood continuously spreading from her legs, thinking of her determination when she struck herself with the electric baton, his heart ached terribly.
He couldn't understand why Olivia's temper had suddenly become so violent.
As if she had suffered some enormous injustice.
Looking at this incident alone, she was clearly the one who broke their agreement and ran away. Though he was angry, he had been holding back his temper. Except for being a bit excessive in the car when he first found her, he hadn't done anything else.
How could she just...
Charles leaned against the wall with his hands in his pockets, eyes closed, wanting to rest for a moment.
But the instant he closed his eyes, the image of Olivia breaking her own legs flashed through his mind again.
He couldn't stand such images and irritably opened his eyes.
Two hours later, the surgery ended, and Olivia was moved to the ward.
The doctor gave many instructions, but Charles didn't hear any of them.
He sat by the bed, holding Olivia's hands, staring intently at her face, as if she would disappear or die the moment he blinked.
Watching Charles like this, Rhys really wanted to step forward and remind him:
Charles, have you forgotten that your original intention in approaching Olivia was to get revenge on her?
But he didn't dare.
Olivia woke up in the middle of the night.
Charles was still sitting by her bed, asleep, tightly holding her hand.
Olivia frowned in disgust and forcefully pulled her hand back.
The hand he'd been holding suddenly left, and Charles, in his sleep, panicked to the extreme, as if she was about to leave him completely.
He instinctively reached out to grab it.
At the same moment, he opened his eyes.
Seeing Olivia awake, joy appeared in his eyes: "You... you're awake?"
The long hours of keeping watch and exhaustion made his voice somewhat hoarse.
Olivia glanced at Charles and tried to turn away.
The moment she moved, a piercing pain shot through her legs, making her gasp.
Charles immediately stood up in distress, raising his hand to hold her body still: "Don't move yet. You..."
The next second, he watched as Olivia, enduring the pain, stubbornly turned away.
Charles's outstretched hand froze in mid-air:
She was extremely disgusted by him.
She would rather endure the severe pain in her legs than look at him.
This realization made Charles's heart ache to the extreme.
He really wanted to go around to the other side of the bed, make her look into his eyes, and ask: Do you really hate me that much?
Thinking of what she'd just done, afraid her stubborn temper would make her turn over again, causing the newly set bones to break again and requiring another surgery, he held back.
After sitting in silence for a moment, Charles spoke again: "You must be hungry, right? The maid sent soup, it's perfect timing now. Let me get you a bowl."
Olivia kept her eyes closed and said nothing.
Charles poured a bowl of soup, went to her side, and scooped up a spoonful to feed her.
Olivia still kept her eyes closed and didn't open her mouth.
She let Charles hold the spoon to her lips, acting as if nothing existed, completely ignoring him.
Charles patiently coaxed her:
"This is your favorite soup. Try it and see how the maid did this time. If it's not good, I'll have her make it again, okay?"
Seeing she still wouldn't speak, Charles continued coaxing: "Don't you like this soup? Then what do you want to eat? Whatever you want, I'll go get it for you right away."
Olivia frowned impatiently, propping herself up on her arm to turn over again, to face away from Charles.
In that instant, Charles's patience completely collapsed.
He threw the spoon into the soup bowl, then set the bowl down heavily on the bedside table. He pressed both hands firmly on Olivia's body, his voice fierce yet full of helplessness:
"Olivia, what exactly do you want?!"
Olivia stopped moving but didn't open her eyes or answer his question.
She was silently resisting him with this non-response.
Charles was furious. With one hand, he grabbed her chin, with the other, he forcefully tried to pry open her eyelids, forcing her to look at him:
"Olivia, say something! Are you mute? What exactly do you want? You need to understand—you're the one who broke our agreement and ran away. What did I even do to you? You went and broke your own legs, and now you're acting like you won't eat or drink. What? You want to die?"
"If you really don't want to live, I won't stop you. Just go die then."
He suddenly released Olivia's face and stood up straight: "Olivia, I do have some interest in you, but don't think that just because of that interest, you can do whatever you want with me. When I lose my patience, things won't end well for you."
The silent Olivia finally reacted.
She let out a cold laugh, staring coldly at nothing.
"You..."
Charles was so angry he nearly jumped.
He had already raised his hand.
Realizing what he was about to do, he forcefully lowered it again.
"Fine, you've got guts."
Charles stormed out of the room in fury, slamming the door hard.
At his behavior, Olivia didn't even blink, still coldly staring at nothing.
Leaving the room, Charles strode away.
She was just a woman. What was so special about her?
There were plenty of women in this world, all kinds, and he could have as many as he wanted of any type.
Did she really think he couldn't live without her?
Charles walked forward angrily.
After a dozen steps, still furious inside, his feet somehow couldn't move forward anymore.
He sadly realized that he really might not be able to live without Olivia.
At least not right now.
Just thinking about never being able to hold her while sleeping again, never seeing her again, the heart in his chest felt so uncomfortable that it was hard to breathe.
He irritably ran his hands through his hair, thought for a moment, then turned back toward the ward.
Olivia was still in the same position as when he'd left.
When he pushed the door open, the sound wasn't loud or soft, but enough for her to hear.
She definitely knew he'd come in, but she didn't even lift an eyelid.
