Chapter 132 He Misunderstood Her

Chapter 132 He Misunderstood Her

Looking at her like this, anger surged up in Charles's heart again.

He clenched his fists hard, forcing himself to suppress his rage. With a good temper, he filled another bowl of soup and placed it in front of Olivia:

"I know you hate me, but the more you hate me, the more you should take care of yourself, right? Don't you want revenge on me? You need to eat well, drink well, and stay healthy to have the strength to get back at me."

"Olivia, accepting your fate and waiting to die isn't your style."

"Think about your parents. If they knew you were gone, how desperate would they be? After you leave this world, how long do you think they'd live?"

Olivia finally reacted.

She looked coldly at Charles: "Are you threatening me?"

"I'm clearly trying to persuade you," Charles said honestly. "If I were really threatening you, wouldn't it be more effective just to kidnap your parents?"

"Olivia, I keep my word. I really do want to spend these five years properly with you. You know I have plenty of ruthless methods and very low limits. Even killing someone with my own hands wouldn't give me any psychological burden. The fact that I'm here talking to you nicely and reasonably shows my sincerity in wanting to live a good life with you."

Charles spoke these words with unusual sincerity.

He had never been a good person—he could even be called a demon.

Persuading someone who hated him to keep living was something he had never done before.

Olivia remained silent.

Just as Charles was about to lose his patience again, she opened her mouth and drank the spoonful of soup.

Charles froze for a moment, then felt wild joy.

With trembling hands, he scooped out a second spoonful and brought it to Olivia's lips.

Afraid she might throw another tantrum and refuse to drink, he didn't dare say another word. In silence, he fed her the entire bowl of soup, spoonful by spoonful.

After finishing, he pulled out a tissue and carefully wiped the soup stains from the corners of her mouth.

Olivia closed her eyes, neither stopping his actions nor looking at him again.

For the next few days, this was how they got along.

Charles talked and talked, but Olivia showed no response, only opening her mouth when it was time to eat.

The rest of the time, she wouldn't look at him once.

To be precise, even during meals, Olivia wouldn't look at Charles once.

Charles held back from losing his temper with Olivia, but those around him suffered for it.

He vented all his pent-up anger on the people around him.

During this time, everyone who saw Charles was terrified.

Even Rhys, unless absolutely necessary, didn't want to appear before Charles.

After a week in the hospital, Olivia was discharged.

Charles carried her, preparing to return to his room, when Olivia grabbed the doorframe, stopping him:

"Although I've been discharged, there are still many things I can't do. I should sleep in the guest room."

Charles didn't want to, but he didn't dare refuse either.

He worried that their relationship, which had finally eased up a bit, would become as tense as before again.

After settling Olivia in the guest room, Charles walked downstairs to the living room, tilted his head back, and drank a large glass of cold water, forcibly suppressing the anger in his heart.

A servant happened to pass through the living room carrying a cardboard box.

Charles frowned slightly and called the servant over: "What are you carrying?"

In his memory, the servants had never brought their own things to Serenity Estates.

He didn't allow it either.

Everything needed was already prepared here.

"This..."

The servant lowered her head awkwardly.

Charles's face turned cold, and many unpleasant thoughts flashed through his mind.

He said nothing more, forcefully took the box, and tore it open.

His movements were too rough, and the contents fell to the floor.

Looking at those things...

Charles's expression became even more unpleasant. He raised his eyelids to look at the servant before him: "You brought these things to Serenity Estates? What are you trying to do?"

"No." The servant explained with a red face, "Mr. Green, these aren't my things. Why would I bring such things... I mean, I've always remembered Mr. Green's instructions not to bring anything into Serenity Estates or take anything out. These..."

"These were all found in the car Ms. Smith was driving before. I... I didn't know how to handle them, so I wanted to take them upstairs to ask Ms. Smith."

The car Olivia drove out that day...

Charles's hand involuntarily clenched.

He told the servant to leave, then bent down himself to pick up the small garments from the floor one by one.

What had fallen from the box were all clothes.

However, unlike ordinary clothes, these used very little fabric and were mostly hollow or trimmed with lace.

These were worn during the most intimate moments between men and women, to spice things up—lingerie found in Olivia's car.

In an instant, countless thoughts flashed through Charles's mind.

One of them, he thought most likely, yet didn't dare easily believe.

He took out his phone and dialed Rhys's number.

After the call connected, he remained silent for a while before instructing: "Send people to investigate more carefully—after Olivia left Silverlight City that day, where exactly did she go and what did she do?"

Rhys worked efficiently and gave him an answer an hour later.

"Mr. Green, after Ms. Smith left Silverlight City that day, she went to a lingerie factory. According to the owner, Ms. Smith had originally planned to buy online and have it shipped, but all deliveries were suspended and wouldn't resume for several days. Ms. Smith couldn't wait, so she drove there herself."

"After leaving that factory, Ms. Smith didn't return to Silverlight City but went in the opposite direction. We found several people who had seen Ms. Smith and also questioned someone who bought fast food for Ms. Smith. That person said Ms. Smith's phone had died, she got lost, drove further and further away, didn't know where she ended up, and had no cash on her, no money for food. That person was kind and bought Ms. Smith a meal."

Fast food, factory, dead phone, lost...

Rhys didn't spell many things out, but the general outline of events had already formed in Charles's mind.

That day, Olivia hadn't been trying to escape at all. She had wanted to buy the lingerie sooner, so she drove there herself. Her phone died, she couldn't use navigation, got lost, and ended up driving further and further away.

That day, she hadn't been trying to run away at all—she just wanted to give him a surprise.

He... had misunderstood her.

That's why she had been so angry, why she had tortured herself like a madwoman.

She was right—breaking both legs wasn't her revenge on him, but her punishment of herself.

Punishment for falling for him, for wanting to surprise him.
