Chapter One Hundred And Twenty Four
Sara
Is this family cursed? We have to be because it’s always one problem or the other with us. I’m surprised we haven’t gone bankrupt yet. Maybe I shouldn’t even think about it before whatever cursed us comes for our money yet.
But damn, the Sharaf family can’t catch a break, can we? My brother is in a coma because David’s long-lost twin cast a spell on him. After all, he wants revenge on his parents for abandoning him. I asked why he couldn’t just take it up with his parents face to face, and they told me that he’s bound to New York, and of course, that makes perfect sense.
At first, I thought that David would never hurt Max because Max is his mate and I’m sure David loves him so much, but then I found out that David wanted to kill him. I almost fell off my chair in a panic because I couldn’t believe my ears. I wanted to jump off my seat and dart out of there. I didn’t care if I was going to hurt a bunch of guards, no no. I was ready to beat anyone who came my way to save my brother.
But then Destiny says something about a plan and how David is planning on bringing Max back after he’s killed, and he tells me the story of his father and how he died and my mom brought him back to life. Now, that story is touching but…
“How are we sure this is going to work for Max?” I ask, showing my concern. Because I am concerned this is my brother, if something bad happens to him, then I’m never going to be at rest. I don’t think I’ll ever be healed. Because that will be it, that would be my final straw, and I don’t think I can take another death at all, not the death of a family member, hell no.
“It has to work; it worked for Dad,” Destiny says looking more confident about this than I am.
“Yes, I’m not saying that it’s not possible. From what I’ve learned anything is possible. But what if David doesn’t do this the right way.”
“He’s going to because he knows what’s at stake if he doesn’t,” Jeremy says to me. “Don’t you trust him?”
I sigh. “I do; I just… this is my brother Jeremy; I don’t want anything to happen to him. He’s my best friend.” And God knows I would be a wreck if my first best friend were to leave me.
“I understand,” Jeremy says, and he smiles, and I smile back. Looking at him makes me think of Elijah. If Elijah was David’s other mate that means David could have easily brought him back to life. But David didn’t know that a uniter could bring his mate back to life at the time. Fuck, that sucks.
Why did people decide to hide that important fact about uniters? I knew the world was cruel but I didn’t know it was this cruel. I bet that fact was hidden on purpose, but why? Does it have some kind of side effect? I mean, Destiny’s dad looks just fine; I think I’ve only spent time with him for a minute, so I’m not sure.
“Okay, so David’s going to be calling Daniel tonight to tell him that he’s not going to go through with calling over his parents to New York,” I ask, and they both nod their heads.
“And then he’s going to be so angry that he’s going to end up killing my brother, and when he dies, David’s going to bring him back to life.”
“Yes, that’s the plan,” Destiny says.
“Whoa, okay, I’m coming with you,” I say, getting up. Jeremy and Destiny both look at each other and they stand up as well. They don’t look like they want me to leave this place.
“Uh, sorry we can’t let that happen.” Doctor Alcide says, coming out of nowhere, his hot wife next to him.
“What? But why my brother’s in danger.”
“And we will take care of it. You just continue your time here, and it’ll be fine.” Says Destiny.
“What? You can’t expect me to sit here doing nothing.” I fold my arms looking angrily between the people ganging up on me right now.
“We understand.” Doctor Alcide says. “But you have to remember that we made a deal with your brother to keep you here until the expiration date.”
“And if Max found out we let you out before then he’ll not be happy.” Says Destiny.
“Oh, my God this is just ridiculous. Obviously, a big war is coming; how do I know what’s going on outside?”
“I can stay here,” Jeremy says, and I’m not the only one who’s looking at him, but we’re all looking at him right now. “I can be your eyes and ears. I get updates from outside, and I’ll tell you what’s happening,” he says so casually. He really wants to help me, and it doesn’t feel like he doesn’t want anything in return. Oh God, I could just kiss him.
“But if that’s okay and it doesn’t violate any-”
“Actually, that’s a good idea.” Doctor Alcide’s wife says then looks at his husband. The beautiful kids these kids are going to be making together…oh my God.
“Hmmm.” Doctor Alcide hums, and he’s doing a lot of thinking about something so simple. He better not disagree with this plan, or else I’ll be escaping, I don’t know how I’m going to escape, but I will. I will escape from this place; I’m not even going to threaten him by saying that because that would be a horrible idea. They’ll just lock me up in a room.
“Okay, fine he can stay.”
I let out a sigh of relief, and then I turn my head over to Jeremy, and I mouth a thank you to him. And he nods his head.
Now all that’s left for us to do is cross our hands that all this works. I hope David knows what he’s doing. I trust that he can save my brother. I trust that he’ll stop this madness. Because this has to stop one way or the other it has to.
Max is going to be okay, I know it.
David
From the minute I met Daniel I knew that we had some kind of connection. I don’t know if it was created when we shared a past memory together or if it’s always been there and the connection made its debut after we shared that memory.
All I know is that I have a deep feeling that I can easily just call on him. I can call him, and he’ll hear, and he’ll appear. I just hope I’m right. I know I’m right, I can feel it.
It’s nighttime, the stars are out, and the moon is smiling at me. I’m standing on top of the roof of the penthouse building where I’m going to be calling on Daniel. Being on top of this roof reminds me of the time I turned into a werecat and I was jumping from roof to roof like Spiderman.
That feeling was one of my best feelings ever; I felt so alive; I felt like I could do anything. And being on this roof makes me feel like I can do anything. I have the courage and I know that this is going to work. I’m not just doing this for Max, but I’m doing this for all the people who have been at the mercy of this killer.
Before I call on Daniel I do something I don’t usually do. I close my eyes and I pray to Bastet to come to my aid.
“Please, Goddess, I need you. We all need you right now,” I mutter, and then I open my eyes. All I can do is hope she hears me and she’ll listen.
Okay, now that that’s been done all that’s left of me to do is call on Daniel.
“Daniel,” I say repeating his name in a whisper more than once.
Twice
Three times.
He has to hear me if he wants to know the verdict and if he wants to know my decision.
After calling his name up to ten times, I stand and wait for him to show up. He’s going to show up, he has to show up.
“Wow, that was fast.” I whip my head at the sound of that chilling voice. And there he is, my twin brother standing right there looking all smug and confident. He’s smiling at me, but I don’t smile back; I just look at him in awe. It’s like standing in a mirror looking at my reflection but the only difference is our clothes and posture.
I don’t think I’ll ever get used to this.
“Hey, Daniel nice to see you.”
He scoffs. “We both know that’s a lie.” he spits, and I’m not entirely lying; I don’t think he’s the enemy, and I think Dura is corrupting him more and more. “Let’s just cut to the chase.” He says and I just stare at him as he moves closer to my direction. “What’s it going to be? Our parents or your boyfriend?” He asks with an evil grin on his face and goodness; he looks so diabolical.
He’s actually enjoying this. He actually enjoys hurting people. Well, too bad for him I’m not going to be allowing him to do this.
“I’m sorry, Daniel, but I’m not going to call Mom and Dad just so they can get killed; I’m sorry, but I’m not doing it,” I say with a bit of fear in me, that fear increases when Daniel begins to laugh like a maniac
“I knew you were going to say that,” he says, and then he throws his hands in the air, and it reveals a dark pillar of clouds that forms into an image. I look at it for a long time to see my parents all gagged on the floor.
“MOM! DAD!” I shout when I see them, and then it disappears, and Daniel continues laughing.
“Now, mommy, daddy, and boyfie, everyone’s going to die!”
“Daniel please-” but he’s gone, he’s disappeared, and I fall to my knees because my parents are going to die.
