Chapter 191
Chapter 191
LYRA'S POV
As soon as I stepped out of the closet in a short, flowery dress that barely passed my thighs, Ryker let out a shaky breath. His eyes met mine, and I could see the hunger in them.
He stood up and stretched out his hand without saying a word. Quietly, I placed my hand in his and let him lead me to the terrace. It had a breathtaking view with a glassy floor that gave a clear view of the water beneath. There was already a spread of all kinds of meals waiting, champagne bottles in ice, and a bouquet with a note.
This was not new, but it felt different. It felt like an apology.
I looked at him, swallowing slightly, and released my breath; I didn’t know I was holding all the while. Then we ate in silence. The atmosphere was peaceful, serene, and so beautiful. It came with a calm that eased into my bones. There was the occasional sound of the cutlery. Ryker kept filling up my plate with food. And when I looked into his eyes, my breath caught. He looked every bit like a god. Breathtaking and impossibly handsome.
You’re staring too much, Lyra. I focused my attention back on my food. I missed him. I can’t believe I honestly missed him.
After our meal, we enjoyed the view together. He got a call and was on it for most of the time, leaving me to my thoughts.
‘He hasn’t made a move on me.’ I couldn’t help but talk in my head.
‘That’s because he has listened to you. Wasn’t it you who always said that every time you guys get into an argument, he settles it with been intimate? Now, he isn’t.’ Liora chimed in.
‘Oh. But he could have at least you know—‘
Liora rolled her eyes and groaned. “I swear you’re impossible, Lyra. Even I can’t keep up with your moods, and you have our mate trying his best.’
‘I’m not that impossible,’ I huffed. Clearly not pleased with what she said, but Liora was mostly right, even though I didn’t want to admit it.
Some minutes later, Ryker came over and brushed a kiss on my temple. “I’m sorry, love. Pack business. Do you want to go somewhere?”
“We could take a walk to the beach. I hear there will be a bonfire tonight. Some carnival, I think, I’m not sure,” I murmured, blushing slightly as his scent sent me flying over the edge of desire.
Soon, we were walking hand in hand along the beach. Then we opted for a view from the bar. There was music and dancing, and a lot of people were having fun. The place buzzed with excitement and booze and desire. Couples were kissing at various corners; it was lively.
“What would you like to drink?” He asked a waiter, signaling when a scantily dressed female walked over. Her eyes gleamed predatorily on Ryker, and she had a seductive smile plastered on her face. She gave me a smile that was more of her assessing her competition before turning her attention to my mate.
“What would you like, handsome? I can get you anything you want, anything at all.” There was no mistaking the invitation she was offering. My blood hissed furiously, ready to snap her head in half and rip her fingers off my mate. She was trailing a hand across his thighs! Such boldness!
And Ryker? What was he doing? He’d probably do nothing as usual.
I wasn’t ready to deal with this. I was prepared to stand up and leave when he yanked the lady by the hair so tight she yelped in pain.
“Take your disgusting hands off me. And next time you try this shit, you’re not going to be losing your hand.”
She cried, turning to me for help. “Please. I’m sorry. Please help me beg him to stop.” She cried as his grip got harder. But my attention was on Ryker. He truly looked disgusted and angry.
Okay, I wasn’t expecting this, but then again, Ryker had been an enigma since he set foot on this island.
He finally released her, and she fell to the ground with a loud thud, wailing and scrambling off fearfully. He then signaled to a waiter, who brought in drinks and a warm cloth. He furiously cleaned his hands with it and wiped the places she touched.
Okay, that’s a first.
I couldn’t help the smile that blossomed in my heart, but I wasn’t ready to show him that I was pleased, though.
“Urgh, she ruined my pants. I would have to toss this one away.” He whined.
I rolled my eyes. “Seriously, she only touched you. She didn’t spill anything.”
“She’s disgusting.” He retorted and took a swig of his drink.
“So, you’re going to throw almost all your clothes away when every disgusting person touches you?” He glared at me, and I couldn’t help but laugh.
He frowned, seemingly offended. “Do you even love me, Lyra? Some woman was touching me inappropriately, and you didn’t even come to my rescue.”
I rolled my eyes and placed the straw in my mouth. “I thought you liked it,” I shrugged, ignoring his murderous glare. This was interesting. Seeing him like this.
He glared at me and continued with his drink. Suddenly, the music changed to a trendy Spanish beat. The whole vibe became more exciting, with various people casually drawing people to the dance floor. Soon, an older lady and her man came over with excited smiles and pulled Ryker and me to the dance floor. Ryker declined with a sudden shake of his head, but the woman was persistent with me, and she was cute with her smile, so I obliged.
There were so many movements and bodies mingling, maybe it was the alcohol suddenly making me feel a little bit loose, I couldn’t help but throw my head back, letting my hair fall gloriously around me and sway to the beat, as the crowd cheered.
