Chapter 190
Chapter 190
LYRA’S POV
Holy crap!
I was just talking to the bartender, laughing at his jokes, and maybe his little attempt at flirting with me. He was cute, but nothing like my type.
No one is ever your type if they don’t measure up to Ryker. Honestly, no one beats our mate. Liora huffed proudly in my head. I was momentarily stunned. She had been sulking with me for a few days since I started the cold war with Ryker, but soon enough, she was missing Rider. When she realized I was taking my war further, she flat-out started acting out with me, arguing and huffing. She was feisty and a troublemaker, I would give her that, and impossibly stubborn. Then she stopped talking to me totally when I told her we were going for a holiday, even without informing our mate, and that he wasn’t going to be there.
I can’t believe you. She had muttered and huffed, then gone ghost mode on me, and now she was talking. I was about to respond, ready to ask her why she suddenly decided to come out of her shell, when I felt the energy around me. I felt it first before I saw the punch flying across Lance’s face.
A loud gasp escaped me. “Lance!” I shot to my feet but got rooted to the spot. Ryker was in front of me, growling. He was really pissed.
“Ryker,” I gasped, “How did you? You asked my dad?”
He laughed. But it wasn't the merry kind. This was different. It was low and dangerous like a man on the edge of control.
“I suppose you didn’t expect that I would ask him. You flat out would not talk to me for weeks, then you travel without telling me, and now you’re flirting with some guy.” I stepped closer to Lyra and grabbed her arm.
“Ouch, it hurts. Hey, leave her alone, man,” The guy I had hit suddenly shot to his feet, trying to play hero. I shot him a glare enough to make him freeze. He gulped and glanced between Lyra and me. But he was either stupid or dumb.
“Who are you, man? Leave her alone,”
“And who the fuck are you? I’m her husband.” I snapped, and he stepped back, almost instinctively darting nervous glances between Lyra and me. ‘I’m sorry,” he stuttered, but I was no longer paying him any mind. I grabbed Lyra’s hand and dragged her out of the hut, like a shed where tourists lounged around. A few curious gazes glanced at us before focusing on whatever it was they were doing.
“Honestly, Ryker, why did you punch that guy? He’s human, practically harmless.” I turned to him, angry, but the wind wouldn’t stop messing with my hair and distracting me. By the time I furiously tucked my hair behind my ears, I couldn’t help but notice how impossibly handsome he looked in black pants and a white loose short-sleeved shirt with two buttons undone at the top, giving me a peek of his masculine chest. He was wearing dark sunglasses that hid his brown eyes, but his fine set of jawline told me he was really pissed.
He scoffed. “And yet, bold enough to touch my mate. He was flirting with you.”
“Was I flirting with him?” I snapped at him, and his eyes narrowed into slits. “You’re mine, Lyra. I’m not going to let some man come close. I can’t take it,”
“I see,” I folded my arms across my chest, glaring at him before storming off to my room. I had booked an entire set of rooms. Most of the lodgings here were cabins suspended above the sea. Mine was at the far end, so it was quite a walk across the wooden bridge that was just right above the clear blue sea.
I ignored Ryker, knowing fully well he was going to trail behind me. Initially, I could feel the heat of his anger, but shortly after, it was followed by something hot, something different. His Alpha energy was pressing down on me, and through our mate bond, I could feel his desire.
Honestly, this guy. One minute, we are fighting, and the next minute, he wants to fuck.
I turned to glare at him and noticed he had removed his sunglasses and placed them lazily on the side of his pant pocket. His eyes fastened on mine hungrily.
“Are you honestly checking me out right now?” I rolled my eyes and stormed off to my room without waiting for a response, and walked straight into the shower for a hot bath.
Ryker was seated on my bed waiting. Honestly, I was thinking he was going to come in there and take me. Goddess knows I’ve missed sex with him so bad, but I’d decided I wasn’t going to let that part of my emotion get in the way. If he wanted to act clueless, then fine. What was I thinking? Did I think just because he said he loved me, then he was going to do right by me? Haven’t I even learnt a thing with the Vera fiasco?
I glared at him briefly before walking over to the closet, letting the towel fall to the ground. The next thing, his hands were on me, pressing me close. “Goddess! I’ve missed you, Lyra,” Then he kissed me, hot and possessive. I moaned. It felt sweet, and I couldn’t help but admit that I’d missed the warmth of his soft lips and the heat of his tongue.
When we finally broke off, his breathing was ragged, and his eyes blazed with a hunger, I almost practically said, “Take me.”
“Dress up, I’ll have lunch called up.” Then he walked away.
“What?” I muttered to myself, slightly bewildered—actually, super. “What’s his deal? Shouldn’t he be taking me to my right now on the wall?”
‘You’re the one who has been angry at the mate. Now, he’s walking on eggshells around us.’ Liora huffed again in my head.
I rolled my eyes again. Sometimes I wonder if she was my wolf. At this rate, she could as well be Ryker’s.
