Chapter 79 Chapter 79
The morning breeze was calm, and the sun shone softly through the white curtains. Savannah stood near the window, her hands resting on her round belly. She was already nine months gone, and her movements were slower now.
Adrian walked into the room quietly and smiled when he saw her staring outside. “You look lost in thought,” he said, his voice gentle.
She turned around and smiled faintly. “Just looking at the sky. It’s beautiful today.”
He walked closer and held her hand softly. “Then let’s go out. You need some air. You’ve been indoors for too long.”
Savannah looked at him in surprise. “Out? Where?”
Adrian grinned. “Somewhere peaceful. Don’t worry, I won’t stress you. I just want us to relax a bit.”
She hesitated, then nodded. “Okay. I’ll go with you.”
A few minutes later, they were both inside his car. Adrian helped her sit carefully before driving off. The road was quiet, and the sound of birds filled the air. Savannah leaned back and smiled as the wind brushed against her face.
“It feels nice,” she said softly.
Adrian glanced at her. “You see? I told you it would.”
After a while, they stopped at a park outside the city. It was a calm place with flowers everywhere and a small lake that sparkled under the sun. Adrian opened the door for her, and she stepped out slowly, holding his hand.
“Wow,” Savannah whispered, looking around. “It’s so beautiful.”
“I knew you’d love it,” Adrian said proudly. “I used to come here when I needed to think.”
They walked slowly along the path, talking and laughing quietly. Savannah’s eyes lit up as she watched little children running around. She smiled gently, placing her hand on her belly.
“They look so happy,” she said.
Adrian looked at her belly and smiled. “Soon, you’ll be holding your own little one. And I’ll be right beside you.”
Her heart warmed at his words. She looked up at him. “You’ve done so much for me, Adrian. I don’t even know how to thank you.”
He shook his head. “You don’t need to thank me, Savannah. Taking care of you makes me happy. You’ve brought peace into my life.”
She looked away shyly. “You always say that.”
“Because it’s true,” he replied quickly. “Before you came, my house was just a building. Now, it feels like a home.”
Savannah smiled softly but didn’t say anything. She was feeling too much at once — joy, peace, and a little fear.
They found a bench near the lake and sat down. Adrian bought her some fresh fruit juice and sat beside her. For a few minutes, they watched the water together in silence.
Then Savannah spoke quietly, “Adrian, do you ever get scared?”
He looked at her. “Of what?”
She sighed. “Of losing someone you love.”
Adrian stared at the lake for a moment before answering. “Yes. Every day. That’s why I try my best to keep the people I care about close.”
Savannah looked at him, her heart beating a little faster. She could see how honest he was. There was something in his eyes that made her feel safe.
She looked down at her hands. “You’re a good man, Adrian.”
He smiled gently. “And you’re a strong woman, Savannah. I admire that about you.”
The wind blew softly, and a leaf landed on her hair. Adrian reached out to remove it, and their eyes met for a few seconds. The moment felt warm and quiet — like the world had stopped moving.
Savannah quickly looked away, her cheeks red. Adrian smiled to himself, not saying anything.
After a while, he stood up and stretched. “Come on, let’s walk a bit more before heading home.”
She nodded and stood up slowly, holding his arm for support. They walked along the lake again, and Savannah kept smiling as she watched ducks swimming in the water.
“I can’t believe places like this still exist,” she said.
Adrian chuckled. “There are many beautiful places in this world, Savannah. You just have to look around.”
She looked at him. “You really love nature, don’t you?”
He nodded. “Yes. Nature reminds me that peace still exists, no matter what happens.”
Savannah smiled faintly. “You talk like an old man.”
Adrian laughed. “Maybe I’m becoming one. But at least I’m a happy old man.”
They both laughed softly. For the first time in a long while, Savannah felt truly free. The air was fresh, and Adrian’s presence made her heart calm.
When they finally got back to the car, she sighed softly. “Thank you, Adrian. I really needed this.”
He opened the door for her. “You’re welcome, Savannah. You deserve all the happiness in the world.”
She smiled at him as she sat down. “You always know what to say.”
He smiled back, “Only when it’s about you.”
On the drive home, Savannah rested her head against the seat, her hand on her belly. The baby kicked softly, and she smiled. Adrian noticed and said, “Looks like someone’s happy too.”
Savannah laughed lightly. “Maybe he just likes being outside.”
Adrian smiled as he drove. “Then we’ll take him out often when he comes.”
Her heart melted again. She looked at him quietly, thinking how lucky she was to have him in her life.
As they reached the mansion, Adrian helped her out of the car. The maids came out smiling and greeted them happily.
Savannah smiled back, feeling like she truly belonged there now.
That night, as she lay on her bed, she thought about the day. Every moment, every smile, every word Adrian said kept replaying in her mind.
She placed her hand gently on her belly and whispered, “Maybe… this is where I’m meant to be.”
