Chapter 78 Chapter 78
Adrian sat in his office with a calm look, typing slowly on his laptop. The day had been long, and his mind was tired. Just then, his best friend, Daniel, walked in with two cups of coffee.
“Man,” Daniel said, smiling. “You look like someone who hasn’t slept in days. You need this.”
Adrian chuckled softly. “Thanks, Daniel. I’ve just been busy. So many files to review.”
Daniel sat across from him and handed him one of the cups. “Busy? Or just thinking too much about Savannah again?”
Adrian gave him a quick look. “Do you ever stop talking?”
Daniel grinned. “Not when it’s about her. I’ve noticed you smile whenever her name comes up.”
Adrian shook his head, but a small smile still showed on his lips. “She’s… special, Daniel. It’s hard not to think about her. The house feels alive because of her.”
Daniel leaned forward. “And the baby? How is she doing?”
“She’s fine. The doctor said everything is going smoothly,” Adrian replied. “I’m just trying to make sure she doesn’t stress herself. She’s nine months gone now, and she still wants to do things on her own.”
Daniel laughed. “You know women. They don’t like to sit still.”
Adrian sighed and looked out the window. “Sometimes I wonder what life was like for her before all this. I see pain in her eyes, Daniel. Deep pain. But she hides it so well.”
Daniel nodded slowly. “That means she’s been through a lot. But you make her smile now, right?”
Adrian looked thoughtful. “I try to. She deserves peace. She’s strong — stronger than most people I’ve met.”
Daniel grinned. “You’ve fallen for her completely, haven’t you?”
Adrian looked away. “Maybe I have. But can you blame me? She’s kind, respectful, and full of life. She doesn’t care about my money or my name. She’s just… real.”
Daniel smiled and took a sip of his coffee. “So what’s the plan? You want to make it official? I mean, she already lives in your mansion, and everyone calls her ‘madam.’”
Adrian smiled faintly. “I want to, but I’m not rushing her. She’s still healing — from her past, from everything she went through. I want her to say yes because she wants to, not because she feels she owes me.”
Daniel nodded slowly. “That’s fair. But I’m telling you, she already loves you. You just don’t see it.”
Adrian laughed softly. “Maybe. She’s gentle with her words, but I can feel it too sometimes. The way she looks at me, the way she talks to me. I just don’t want to scare her off.”
Daniel leaned back and smiled. “You’ve changed, my friend. Before, you were all work and meetings. Now, you’re smiling like a teenager in love.”
Adrian chuckled. “Maybe it’s time for a little happiness. I’ve worked enough to earn it.”
They both laughed for a while before Daniel said quietly, “You know, I really admire how you treat her. Most men wouldn’t do half of what you’ve done.”
Adrian looked serious now. “She deserves it. She’s carrying a child, Daniel. A woman like her should never feel alone. I’ll make sure she never does again.”
Daniel smiled. “I believe you. Just don’t let your work take that away. Balance, my friend. Balance.”
Adrian nodded. “I hear you.”
For a moment, they both sat quietly, sipping their coffee.
Then Daniel spoke again, his voice softer. “So… have you thought about what happens when the baby is born? I mean, what if the father suddenly appears?”
Adrian froze for a second. “I don’t think that will happen,” he said quietly. “She never talks about him. And honestly, whoever he is, he doesn’t deserve her.”
Daniel nodded. “I agree. But life can surprise us sometimes.”
Adrian gave a small sigh. “If he ever comes back, I’ll protect her. I don’t care what it takes.”
Daniel smiled proudly. “That’s what I like to hear. You’re a good man, Adrian.”
Adrian smiled faintly. “Maybe I just met the right woman.”
They both laughed again, and Daniel stood up to leave. “You should take Savannah out tomorrow. Somewhere peaceful. She’s been indoors too long.”
Adrian nodded. “That’s a good idea. She needs some fresh air.”
As Daniel walked out, Adrian leaned back in his chair, thinking about Savannah again. Her gentle smile, her quiet strength, the way she brightened his world without even trying.
He whispered to himself, “I’ll take care of you, Savannah. Always.”
Then he smiled and got back to work, feeling a warmth in his heart that work could never give.
