Chapter 63 Chapter 63
That night was calm. The sound of the wind blew softly through the curtains as Savannah sat on her bed, brushing her long hair slowly. The light from the small lamp made her skin glow. Her thoughts were far, but her heart was restless.
She had tried to sleep but couldn’t. Her mind kept going back to Adrian — his smile, his care, the way he always looked at her like she was the only woman in the world.
A soft knock came on the door.
“Come in,” she said quietly.
The door opened, and Adrian stepped in, wearing a simple shirt and trousers. His hair was a bit messy, and his smile was gentle. “You’re not sleeping yet?”
Savannah smiled faintly. “I was trying to.”
He walked closer and sat beside her on the bed. “Are you okay? Did the baby move too much?”
She shook her head. “No, I’m fine. The baby is calm tonight.”
There was silence between them for a while. The air felt warm, not because of the weather but because of their closeness.
Adrian looked at her face. “Savannah,” he called softly.
She raised her eyes slowly. “Yes?”
He took a deep breath. “I don’t know how to say this without sounding crazy, but I can’t hide it anymore. I’ve fallen in love with you.”
Savannah’s heart skipped a beat. She looked away quickly. “Adrian, please…”
“No, let me finish,” he said, gently touching her hand. “From the day I saw you crying that night, I knew you were different. You’re strong, humble, and pure. You’ve changed me in ways I can’t explain. I don’t care about your past or whose child you carry. I just want to be with you, Savannah.”
Her eyes were full of tears, but she didn’t speak.
Adrian smiled softly and continued, “I want to take care of you and your baby. I want you to be my wife. Not out of pity, but because I truly love you.”
Savannah’s lips trembled. “Adrian… I’m married,” she whispered. “I can’t just forget that.”
Adrian nodded slowly. “I know. But that man, whoever he is, left you when you needed him most. You don’t owe him anything anymore. You deserve happiness too.”
She wiped her tears. “It’s not easy to forget, Adrian. Even if I want to, it’s not easy.”
“I’m not asking you to forget,” he said gently. “I’m just asking you to allow yourself to feel again. To let me in.”
Savannah looked at him, her eyes full of pain and confusion. “Why do you care so much?”
“Because I love you,” he said again, his voice firm but soft. “I can’t explain it. You make me feel alive, Savannah.”
Her heart was beating fast now. The truth was, she had already fallen for him too. His kindness, his patience, his gentle way of treating her — she had never felt that kind of love before.
She looked down, her fingers playing with her gown. “Adrian…” she whispered.
“Yes?”
She took a deep breath. “I don’t know if I’m doing the right thing, but I can’t deny how I feel anymore. You’ve shown me love, peace, and care when I least deserved it. I can’t promise to forget my past, but I want to move on… with you.”
Adrian froze for a second, staring at her. “Are you saying yes?”
She smiled shyly, her cheeks wet with tears. “Yes, Adrian. I’ll be your wife.”
For a moment, Adrian didn’t move. He just stared at her as if he couldn’t believe his ears. Then, slowly, a wide smile spread across his face.
He stood up and pulled her gently into his arms, careful not to press her belly. “You just made me the happiest man alive,” he whispered against her hair.
Savannah smiled, her heart racing. “I mean it, Adrian. You’ve been nothing but good to me.”
He pulled back and looked into her eyes. “You have no idea how long I’ve waited to hear those words.”
She smiled shyly. “You sound like you’ve been dreaming.”
He chuckled. “It feels like one. A sweet dream I don’t want to wake up from.”
Savannah laughed softly, feeling shy and happy at the same time. She hadn’t laughed like that in months.
Adrian held her hand. “From today, you’re not alone anymore. You’re mine, Savannah — you and the baby. I’ll take care of you both with everything I have.”
She nodded slowly. “I believe you.”
They sat like that for a long time, talking about small things — her cravings, his work, the baby’s name.
Adrian said he wanted to name the baby after his late mother if it was a girl, and Savannah smiled. “That’s a beautiful name.”
Time passed, but neither of them wanted to sleep. The night was too peaceful, too perfect.
Before leaving her room, Adrian bent down and kissed her forehead gently. “Goodnight, my future wife,” he whispered.
Savannah smiled as tears rolled down her cheeks. “Goodnight, Adrian.”
When he left, she touched her belly and whispered softly, “You’re going to have a good father.”
Down the hallway, Adrian walked with a bright smile on his face. His heart was beating fast with joy.
He couldn’t believe what had just happened. Savannah had said yes. The woman he loved had agreed to be his wife.
He leaned on the wall, laughing quietly to himself. “It sounds like a dream,” he whispered. “A sweet dream come true.”
And that night, both of them slept with peace in their hearts — something they hadn’t felt in a long, long time.
