Chapter 61 Chapter 61
The sound of high heels echoed on the marble floor as Cassandra walked into the living room, dressed in a silk robe. Her hair was perfectly styled even though it was just morning.
Nathaniel was already sitting on the couch, reading a business file. His tie hung loose around his neck, and a cup of coffee rested beside him.
Cassandra smiled sweetly as she walked up to him. “Good morning, darling,” she said in a soft tone, wrapping her arms around his neck from behind.
Nathaniel didn’t look up. “Morning.”
She pouted playfully and came around to sit beside him. “Why do you always sound so cold in the morning? You should say it sweetly, you know.”
He gave a faint smile and took a sip of his coffee. “I have work on my mind. You know how it is.”
Cassandra rolled her eyes slightly and leaned closer. “Work, work, work. That’s all you ever think about. Can’t you rest and enjoy what you already have?”
Nathaniel looked at her calmly. “If I stop working, we lose everything. You wouldn’t like that, would you?”
She gave a fake laugh. “Of course not, baby. I just want you to think about us sometimes. Not just the company.”
He turned a page in the file, not answering. Cassandra sat quietly for a moment, pretending to be patient. Then, slowly, she touched his arm.
“You know,” she began softly, “I’ve been thinking… maybe you should start putting some things in order.”
He frowned a little. “What do you mean by that?”
She smiled and tried to sound casual. “I mean, you’ve worked too hard for everything you own. The house, the cars, the company… you should start sharing some of it with me.”
Nathaniel raised his head and looked at her. “Sharing?”
“Yes,” she said quickly, flashing her best smile. “Like putting some of the properties in both our names. You know, since we’re back together now.”
He leaned back in his chair, studying her face. “Cassandra, what brought this up all of a sudden?”
She laughed lightly, waving her hand. “Nothing serious, love. I was just thinking. What if something happens one day? You travel a lot, you deal with all kinds of people. I just want to feel safe, that’s all.”
Nathaniel said nothing for a while. He just stared at her quietly. Cassandra could feel his eyes on her, and it made her nervous, but she hid it behind another smile.
Finally, he said slowly, “You never cared about all this before.”
Cassandra shrugged. “Because I didn’t have to. But now I’m serious about us. I want to build a future with you.”
Nathaniel stood up and walked to the window. “Cassandra,” he said in a low voice, “sometimes I wonder if you’re serious about me, or about what I own.”
Cassandra froze for a second, then forced a soft laugh. “What are you saying? Of course I love you.”
He turned to face her. “Then why does every talk we have end up about money, shares, or the house?”
Her smile faded slightly. “You’re misunderstanding me, Nathaniel. I just want to help you manage things. I’m your woman, remember?”
He sighed and walked back to the couch, closing the file. “You don’t need to worry about the company. I have it handled.”
Cassandra bit her lip. She hated how calm he was. Every time she tried to push, he turned it into nothing.
She moved closer again, her tone softer. “Nathaniel, please. Don’t take it the wrong way. I’m just thinking about our future.”
Nathaniel leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees. “Our future doesn’t need property transfers to be real. What I need is peace.”
Cassandra blinked. She didn’t expect that answer. “Peace?”
“Yes,” he said quietly. “You talk too much about what you want. You never ask what I feel.”
That one hit her hard. For a moment, she didn’t know what to say. Then she forced a small smile again. “You’re right, I talk too much. But that’s because I love you. I just want to be sure of where we stand.”
Nathaniel gave a short nod and stood up. “I have a meeting soon.”
Cassandra stood too, touching his arm quickly. “Wait, baby. Don’t go yet.”
He stopped, looking at her hand on his sleeve.
“Promise me something,” she said quietly. “Promise you’ll think about what I said. About us… about the properties.”
He looked straight into her eyes. “I’ll think about it,” he said simply, then walked away.
Cassandra watched him leave, her smile fading the moment he was out of sight.
Her face turned cold. “Think about it,” she repeated under her breath. “You’ll think, but you’ll still do what I want.”
She walked to the bar and poured herself a drink, sipping slowly.
Just then, Vanessa walked in, dressed in a short blue gown and holding her phone. “You started drinking already?” she teased.
Cassandra gave her a tired look. “I needed it. He’s still holding back.”
Vanessa dropped on the couch. “About the properties again?”
“Yes,” Cassandra said sharply. “He said he’ll ‘think about it.’ I swear, sometimes I just want to scream.”
Vanessa chuckled. “Don’t push too hard. Men like him hate pressure.”
Cassandra turned to her with a glare. “Don’t teach me how to handle my man, Vanessa. I know what I’m doing.”
Vanessa raised her hands in defense. “Fine. But remember, you need to be smart. If you make him angry, he might throw you out like last time.”
Cassandra’s eyes darkened. “That will never happen again. This time, I’ll make sure everything he owns carries my name. I don’t care how long it takes.”
Vanessa smirked. “That’s my sister.”
They both laughed lightly, but Cassandra’s laugh didn’t reach her eyes.
She finished her drink and looked toward the stairs where Nathaniel had gone. “He thinks he’s in control,” she whispered. “But soon, I’ll have it all.”
Vanessa smiled slyly and crossed her legs. “I’ll drink to that.”
Cassandra raised her glass slightly. “To a future where everything belongs to me.”
They both clinked glasses.
The air was quiet again, but deep inside Cassandra’s heart, a dangerous plan was already taking shape.
This time, she wouldn’t wait for Nathaniel to agree. She would make it happen — one way or another.
