Chapter 60 Chapter 60
That night was long and quiet. The sky outside was dark, and soft moonlight filled the room. Savannah lay on her bed, her eyes wide open. She couldn’t sleep no matter how hard she tried.
Adrian’s words kept playing again and again in her head — “I’ve fallen for you… Let me love you both.”
She turned from one side to the other, hugging her pillow close. Her heart was beating too fast. She felt something heavy inside her chest that she couldn’t shake off.
“How can I fall for another man?” she whispered into the dark room. “What is wrong with me?”
Her hands moved to her stomach slowly. The baby kicked gently, almost like a reminder that she wasn’t alone. She smiled faintly but then sighed again.
Adrian had been nothing but kind. From the day he found her fainting, to the moment he brought her into his home, he had cared for her like no one else ever had. He didn’t ask for anything in return. He didn’t judge her. He just stayed.
Savannah couldn’t remember the last time someone treated her with so much care and respect. Not even Nathaniel, her husband, had made her feel this safe.
She closed her eyes, memories flooding back — Nathaniel’s smile, their wedding day, the promises he made. She had loved him deeply. She gave him her whole heart. But then, everything changed.
He left her when she needed him most. He turned cold and distant. Even when she cried for him, he didn’t come.
And now, months later, she had another man by her side — one who looked at her like she was the most precious thing in the world.
Savannah sighed again, her voice weak. “Adrian… why are you doing this to me?”
She didn’t know when she started caring for him. Maybe it was the first day he smiled at her, or the way he spoke gently every time she was scared. Maybe it was how he always knew what she needed without her asking.
She remembered how he would bring her breakfast himself sometimes, or sit quietly beside her when she didn’t feel like talking. The way he looked at her was different — not with pity, but with deep warmth.
Tears filled her eyes. “I think I’ve already fallen for him,” she said softly, almost like a secret.
She wiped her face quickly and sat up. “No, Savannah, you can’t,” she told herself. “You’re still married. You can’t do this.”
But deep down, she knew her heart had already made its choice — even if her mind refused to accept it.
The next morning, she woke up early. The house was quiet, only the sound of birds outside. She sat on the balcony, holding a warm cup of milk the maid had brought. The air was cool, and she could see the sun slowly rising behind the tall trees.
She thought about Adrian again. His face. His smile. His voice.
He had risked everything to make sure she and the baby were fine. Even when she pushed him away, he didn’t give up. He still checked on her, still cared, still made her feel like she mattered.
Savannah placed her hand on her chest. “I don’t deserve this kind of love,” she whispered.
But then she remembered the way he looked at her when he confessed — his eyes full of truth and pain. There was no lie in his voice. He really meant every word.
She felt her throat tighten. “What if I end up hurting him?” she thought sadly. “He doesn’t deserve pain either.”
For hours, she sat quietly, thinking about her life. About the choices she had made, the pain she had gone through, and the man who was now changing everything inside her.
She remembered how lonely she used to be before Adrian found her. There were nights she cried herself to sleep, wishing someone cared. And now, that wish had come true — but it scared her.
The maid came to ask if she wanted breakfast, but Savannah shook her head. “Not yet. I’m not hungry.”
She just needed time to think — time to understand her own heart.
Later that afternoon, Adrian came home early. He saw her sitting on the couch, lost in thought. She didn’t even notice him walk in until he sat beside her.
“You look tired,” he said softly. “Did you sleep well?”
She nodded slowly, still avoiding his eyes. “A little.”
He smiled faintly. “You’re lying. I can tell.”
She looked at him, trying not to show how her heart jumped just seeing his face. “I was just thinking.”
“About what?”
Savannah hesitated. She wanted to tell him everything — how his words had made her feel, how she couldn’t stop thinking about him, how confused she was. But her mouth refused to speak.
“Just life,” she finally said. “And the baby.”
Adrian nodded, not pushing further. He just sat quietly beside her. After a while, he reached out and touched her hand gently.
She froze, her breath caught. His hand was warm, strong, but soft. She didn’t pull away. Instead, she felt peace.
Adrian smiled a little. “You don’t have to say anything, Savannah. I meant what I said yesterday. I’ll wait — as long as it takes.”
Her eyes grew watery again. She turned to look at him fully. “Why me, Adrian? You can have any woman you want. Why are you doing all this for someone like me?”
He stared into her eyes, his voice calm and honest. “Because you’re different. Because your heart is pure. Because every time I look at you, I see someone who deserves love — not pain.”
Savannah couldn’t stop the tears this time. They rolled down her cheeks, and she tried to hide her face.
Adrian moved closer and wiped them away gently. “Hey, don’t cry. I don’t want to see tears on your face again.”
She looked at him for a long moment. Her heart felt like it would burst. She wanted to tell him she felt the same, but fear held her back.
After a few seconds of silence, she whispered, “Adrian, I don’t know what to do anymore.”
He gave a small smile. “Then don’t do anything yet. Just let your heart rest. When you’re ready, you’ll know what to do.”
She nodded slowly. His voice was calm, but his eyes showed how much he truly loved her.
That night, after he left her room, Savannah lay in bed again. She touched her chest where his hand had rested earlier. Her heart was still racing.
For the first time in a long while, she didn’t feel broken. She didn’t feel abandoned. She felt alive.
“Maybe,” she whispered softly into the dark, “I can learn to love again.”
The baby kicked lightly, as if agreeing with her. She smiled through her tears.
Yes, she was torn between two hearts — one from her past and one from her present — but deep down, she knew which one made her feel whole again.
