Chapter 59 Chapter 59
The evening came slowly. Savannah sat outside the balcony, watching the soft sunset. The sky glowed orange and gold. The air was quiet, peaceful.
She touched her stomach again and smiled faintly. “Just one more month,” she whispered. “Then I’ll see you, my baby.”
She didn’t hear Adrian walk up behind her. He stood for a moment, watching her quietly. There was something about her that pulled him close every time — her calm voice, her gentle smile, her quiet strength.
“You look lost in thought,” he said softly.
Savannah turned quickly and smiled. “You scared me, Adrian. I didn’t hear you coming.”
He sat beside her. “You’ve been thinking a lot lately.”
She nodded. “Just about life… and the future.”
“The future,” Adrian repeated slowly. He looked at her, his face serious. “Savannah, there’s something I’ve wanted to say for a long time.”
Her heart beat fast. “What is it?”
He took a deep breath. “I don’t know when it started, but I’ve fallen for you. I care about you more than I can explain. Every time I see you smile, I feel peace. When you’re sad, I feel it too.”
Savannah froze. Her lips parted, but no words came out.
Adrian continued, his eyes locked on hers. “I know you’ve been through pain. I see it in your eyes. But I want to be the one to make you happy again, Savannah. I want to protect you and your baby. I want to give you the life you deserve.”
Her eyes filled with tears. She shook her head slowly. “Adrian, I can’t… I’m married.”
He looked at her, hurt but calm. “Married? To a man who abandoned you? Who left you with nothing?”
Savannah’s voice broke. “Yes… his name is Nathaniel. He used to be my husband.”
Adrian clenched his jaw, trying to stay calm. “And where is he now? Has he called? Has he cared if you’re alive?”
She lowered her head. “No. But that doesn’t change the truth. I’m carrying his child. I can’t betray that.”
Adrian sighed deeply and leaned back. “Savannah, listen to me. You’ve suffered enough for one man. Sometimes, letting go is not betrayal — it’s survival. Nathaniel didn’t value you. You owe him nothing.”
She looked away, her heart racing. “You don’t understand. I can’t just forget him like that. I still have his baby inside me.”
Adrian turned to her again, his tone softer. “Then let me love you both. I don’t care whose child it is. I just want you safe and happy.”
Savannah’s tears fell silently. She wanted to speak but couldn’t.
Adrian stood up and placed his hand gently on her shoulder. “You don’t have to answer now. I just needed you to know how I feel.”
He walked away slowly, leaving her sitting alone under the soft glow of the setting sun.
Savannah sat there for a long time, lost in thought. Her heart felt heavy and confused. She touched her stomach again and whispered, “What do I do now?”
The baby kicked lightly, as if giving her an answer she couldn’t yet understand.
The night came quietly, but Savannah couldn’t sleep. Adrian’s words kept replaying in her mind. I’ve fallen for you. Let me love you both.
For the first time, she realized her heart wasn’t as cold as she thought.
She was scared — scared of what her heart might do next.
