Chapter 233 Chapter 233

It was early in the morning, the sun already bright through the white curtains. Savannah sat quietly on the edge of the bed, her hand resting on her belly. She could feel the baby move again, a soft flutter that made her smile faintly.

Adrian was still in the bathroom, getting ready for work when she spoke softly, “Honey, I think I need to go to the hospital today for a checkup.”

Adrian came out immediately, wiping his face with a towel. “You’re not feeling fine?” he asked quickly, his tone full of worry.

Savannah shook her head gently. “No, I’m fine, I just… want to be sure everything’s okay with the baby.”

He sat beside her, holding her hand. “Then we’ll go together after work,” he said.

But Savannah looked away, biting her lip. “I was thinking to just go alone,” she said quietly. “You’ve been working a lot, and I don’t want to disturb you.”

Adrian frowned instantly. “Savannah, stop that,” he said. “You’re not disturbing me. You and the baby come first before anything else.”

“I know, but—” she started to say, but he didn’t let her finish.

“No buts,” he said firmly, cupping her face with both hands. “You’ve been feeling weak lately, and I won’t take any risk. You’re not going anywhere alone.”

Savannah sighed, trying not to argue. “It’s just a normal checkup, Adrian.”

“I don’t care,” he said, standing up. “I’ll call Doctor May right now and ask her to come here. That’s final.”

“Here? You mean at home?” she asked, surprised.

“Yes,” he said, already picking up his phone. “You’re not stepping out of this house for now. I don’t feel right about it.”

Savannah looked at him quietly. His serious face made her heart warm. She loved how protective he was, even when it annoyed her sometimes.

She smiled faintly. “You’re acting like I’m made of glass.”

Adrian laughed softly and kissed her forehead. “You are my glass. My favorite one. And I don’t want anything to happen to you.”

“Alright,” she whispered. “You win.”

“Good,” he said with relief, dialing the doctor’s number. “Stay put and rest. I’ll handle everything.”

Savannah watched him walk to the balcony, his voice calm but commanding as he spoke on the phone.

Inside, she felt a strange mix of peace and fear. Peace because Adrian loved her so deeply. Fear because something in her chest kept whispering that danger was closer than she thought.

She rubbed her belly gently and whispered, “We’re okay, baby. Daddy’s here.”

Downstairs, Aunty Lisa entered the living room and saw Adrian on the phone. “Everything alright?” she asked.

“Yes,” he said. “Savannah wants a checkup, but I told her the doctor will come here. I don’t want her stressing herself.”

Aunty Lisa nodded approvingly. “You did the right thing. I’ve been meaning to tell you, lately she looks a bit pale.”

Adrian sighed. “I’ve noticed too. I’ll make sure she gets proper rest.”

When he went back upstairs, Savannah was lying on the bed, looking out the window. She smiled softly when he came in.

“Doctor May will be here by noon,” he said.

“Thank you,” she whispered.

He sat beside her and kissed her hand. “Promise me you won’t ever try to go anywhere alone again.”

Savannah chuckled lightly. “Yes, boss.”

He smiled and pulled her closer. “Good. Because I can’t lose you.”

She rested her head on his chest, feeling safe — yet deep inside, that uneasy feeling refused to leave.

Something was coming.

And this time, it felt real.
