Chapter 231 Chapter 231

Savannah woke up late that morning, her head feeling heavy. The house was quiet, only the sound of birds singing outside. She sat up slowly, rubbing her eyes. Adrian had already gone out for a quick meeting, but he left a sweet note by the bedside.

It read:
“My love, I’ll be back soon. Please don’t stress yourself. Remember, I love you and our baby more than anything.”

She smiled faintly but couldn’t shake off a strange feeling in her chest. Something didn’t feel right. Her heart was beating fast for no reason. She held her tummy gently and whispered, “It’s okay, baby. Mommy is fine.”

But deep inside, she wasn’t.

She stood up and walked to the window, looking outside. Everything looked normal, but her mind was restless. She tried watching TV, but even that didn’t help. She went to the kitchen to make tea, and her hands were shaking a little.

“Why am I feeling like this?” she muttered to herself.

Just then, her phone buzzed on the counter. She quickly wiped her hands and picked it up.
Her heart almost stopped when she saw the name on the screen — Nathaniel.

She froze.

For a moment, she thought it was a mistake. But the message came through again. She opened it slowly, her hands trembling.

> “Savannah, I can’t stop thinking about you. I saw your pictures online with that man. He doesn’t deserve you. I know I made mistakes, but I can’t live without you. Liam is my son, and I will do anything to bring him back.”

Her eyes widened as she read the message over and over. She felt her throat tighten, her breath coming faster. She dropped the phone on the counter, her body shaking.

“No, not again…” she whispered.

Memories flooded her mind — the pain, the divorce papers, the night he threw her out. She had tried so hard to forget everything, to build a new life. But now, it all came rushing back like a storm.

She picked up the phone again, her fingers trembling as she typed.

> “Nathaniel, please stop. Don’t text me again. I’ve moved on. You should too.”

She sent it quickly and dropped the phone again. But her heart wouldn’t calm down. Tears filled her eyes. She sat on the kitchen stool and held her head in her hands.

“Why now? Why can’t he just let me be?” she whispered, her voice breaking.

The baby kicked lightly inside her belly, and she wiped her tears. “I’m fine, baby,” she said softly. “Mommy is strong. Mommy won’t cry.”

She stood up and went to the living room, trying to distract herself, but every little sound made her jump. When the doorbell rang suddenly, she gasped. Her heart nearly leaped out of her chest.

Rose came out quickly. “Ma, it’s just the delivery man,” she said, smiling.

Savannah nodded slowly, forcing a smile. “Okay, thank you.”

After signing for the parcel, she went back to sit down, her mind still on Nathaniel’s message. She wanted to tell Adrian, but she remembered the way he had been so worried lately. She didn’t want to stress him.

So she kept quiet.

Later that afternoon, she tried taking a nap, but she couldn’t. Her mind was restless, her body uneasy. Every time she closed her eyes, she saw Nathaniel’s face — the anger, the pain, the tears from that night at the dinner party.

When Adrian finally came back home, she quickly wiped her face and smiled as if nothing was wrong.

He walked straight to her and kissed her forehead. “Hey, beautiful. How are you feeling?”

“I’m fine,” she said softly, but her voice cracked a little.

He looked at her face carefully. “You’ve been crying?”

She quickly shook her head. “No, I’m just tired.”

Adrian frowned but didn’t push her. He helped her to the couch and sat beside her, holding her hand. “You look pale, Savannah. You should rest.”

She leaned against him quietly. “Adrian… do you ever feel like something bad is coming?”

He looked at her with concern. “Why would you say that?”

“I don’t know,” she whispered. “I just feel it. Like something heavy is on my chest. I can’t explain it.”

He pulled her closer. “Nothing bad will happen to you. I promise.”

She nodded, resting her head on his shoulder. “I believe you.”

But deep down, she still felt that strange warning inside her. She didn’t know that her uneasy feeling was connected to something bigger — that danger was slowly closing in on her, one step at a time.

And far away, in another city, Nathaniel was staring at his phone with tears in his eyes. He whispered softly to himself, “You can block me, Savannah, but you can’t stop me. I’ll get my son back. I’ll make things right… even if it’s the last thing I do.”

Outside his window, the wind howled, as if the universe already knew — peace would not last for long.
