Chapter 224 Chapter 224

Adrian didn’t sleep that night.
He lay there with Savannah in his arms, but his eyes stayed open, staring at the ceiling. The sound of her soft breathing filled the room, but his heart was not calm.

Something was wrong.
He could feel it.

He remembered how she cried in his arms, how she said she was scared. Savannah had always been strong. She was the kind of woman who smiled even when she was in pain. So if she broke down like that, it meant something deep was eating her up inside.

He turned his head slowly and looked at her sleeping face. Her eyes were still swollen, and her hand clung tightly to his shirt like she was afraid he’d disappear.

He brushed her hair gently, whispering, “What are you hiding from me, Savannah?”

He didn’t want to think the worst, but his mind wouldn’t stop.
Was it about the pregnancy?
Was she sick?
Or… was it something from her past?

He remembered how she had been acting strange lately—checking her phone secretly, staring into space for long minutes, and forcing a smile when he asked what was wrong.

Adrian sighed and sat up slowly so he wouldn’t wake her. He rested his elbows on his knees and buried his face in his palms. “I love you so much, Savannah. Don’t shut me out,” he whispered softly.

He wanted to wake her and ask everything right then, but he couldn’t.
She looked so peaceful, and he didn’t want to stress her or the baby.

Still, he made up his mind.
He had to find out the truth — whatever it was.

By morning, he was already thinking of ways to do it. Maybe he could talk to Aunty Lisa, maybe she knew something. Or maybe he could check her messages when she was in the shower.

He hated himself for even thinking that way, but the pain of not knowing was worse.

When Savannah finally woke up, she smiled weakly at him. “Good morning,” she whispered.

Adrian forced a small smile. “Good morning, baby. How do you feel now?”

“A little better,” she said, avoiding his eyes.

He reached out and held her hand. “You sure?”

She nodded quickly. “Yes, I’m fine.”

But her eyes said otherwise.

Adrian looked at her silently. “Alright,” he said slowly. “If you say so.”

She smiled again and stood up to freshen up. He watched her walk to the bathroom and close the door.

The moment she left, he sat back and sighed deeply.
He could feel the distance growing between them, and it scared him.

He looked around the room — her phone was on the nightstand, right beside her perfume bottle. His hand itched to pick it up, but he stopped himself.

“No,” he whispered. “Not yet.”

He wanted to trust her. He really did. But the tears she cried last night wouldn’t leave his mind.

When she came out of the bathroom, he smiled again like everything was fine. “I’ll make you breakfast,” he said, kissing her forehead.

“Thank you,” she said softly.

As he walked out, his face changed. His smile disappeared. His eyes were full of worry and silent questions.

He looked up at the sky through the window and whispered,
“God, please let her tell me the truth before it’s too late.”

He didn’t know that soon, the truth would come crashing down in a way he never expected.
