Chapter 200 Chapter 200
The next few days after the dinner party were not easy for Savannah.
She barely smiled, barely talked, and most times, she just sat on the couch, lost in her thoughts.
Adrian noticed it all. He noticed how quiet she had become.
She used to laugh a lot, play with Liam, and talk endlessly about small things that made her happy. But now, her eyes were heavy and sad.
Every time he tried to talk to her, she would say, “I’m fine,” but her voice told another story.
One morning, Adrian walked into the living room and saw her sitting by the big window, staring outside. She didn’t even notice him come in. The sunlight fell gently on her face, but there was no brightness in her eyes.
He walked closer and sat beside her. “You’ve been quiet all morning,” he said softly.
She forced a weak smile. “Just thinking,” she replied, still looking out the window.
“About Nathaniel?” he asked carefully.
She turned her head slowly and sighed. “I don’t know, Adrian. It’s not him… it’s everything. I just can’t stop thinking about what happened, the memories, the pain… it’s too much.”
Adrian took her hand gently. “Savannah, listen to me. You don’t need to carry all that pain anymore. You’ve come too far to let your past break you again. You’re safe now. You’re with me and Liam. That’s what matters.”
Savannah blinked fast as tears filled her eyes. “I know, but sometimes, my heart still feels heavy. I keep remembering the day he threw me out. I thought my life was over. And now, seeing him again… it brought everything back.”
Adrian pulled her into his arms and held her tight. “Shh… it’s okay,” he whispered. “He can’t hurt you anymore. You’ve built a new life. A beautiful life. You’re strong, Savannah. You made it through the worst already.”
She buried her face in his chest and cried softly. Adrian didn’t say another word. He just held her.
Liam suddenly ran into the room, holding his teddy bear. “Mommy! Daddy! Look what I found!” he said cheerfully, holding up a little paper plane.
Savannah quickly wiped her tears and smiled at her son. “Oh wow, that’s so nice, baby,” she said, trying to sound excited.
Adrian smiled too. “You made that all by yourself?”
Liam nodded proudly. “Yes! And it can fly too!”
Savannah laughed a little — a small, real laugh this time. Adrian noticed it and smiled warmly. “See? That’s the sound I’ve been missing,” he said, tapping her nose playfully.
She giggled quietly and looked at him. “You’re crazy.”
“And you love it,” he teased.
For the first time in days, Savannah smiled from her heart.
Later that afternoon, Adrian took Savannah and Liam to the garden behind the mansion. The flowers were in full bloom, and the fresh air felt peaceful.
Liam ran around chasing butterflies while Adrian and Savannah sat on the grass, watching him.
“Sometimes I forget how beautiful this place is,” Savannah said softly.
“That’s because you’ve been stuck in your thoughts,” Adrian replied. “You need to breathe again, baby. The past is gone. What we have now is real.”
She turned to look at him. “You always know what to say.”
Adrian smiled. “That’s my job as your husband.”
She leaned her head on his shoulder and sighed deeply. “Thank you for not giving up on me.”
He kissed her forehead gently. “Never. I’ll keep fighting for your smile every day.”
As the sun began to set, Liam came running back, sweaty and laughing. “Mommy, Daddy, come play with me!”
Adrian stood up quickly and pulled Savannah to her feet. “You heard the boss,” he said, pretending to salute Liam.
Savannah laughed and joined in the game. They chased Liam around, throwing soft petals at each other. Liam’s laughter echoed through the garden, filling the air with joy.
When they finally sat down again, Savannah leaned against Adrian, smiling softly. “You know,” she said quietly, “maybe I’ll be okay after all.”
Adrian looked at her lovingly. “Not maybe. You will be okay, Savannah. You’re stronger than you think.”
Liam came and sat on her lap, tired from running. He hugged her tightly. “Mommy, don’t be sad anymore, okay? Daddy and I love you.”
Tears filled Savannah’s eyes again, but this time, they were tears of warmth. She kissed Liam’s cheek. “I love you too, my baby.”
And then she looked up at Adrian and whispered, “Thank you for giving me a reason to smile again.”
Adrian smiled and wrapped his arms around both of them. “You and Liam are my whole world. And I’ll protect you with everything I have.”
That evening, they went back inside the mansion. The lights were warm, and the atmosphere felt calm again. Savannah took a deep breath and smiled.
Maybe, just maybe… she was finally starting to heal.
