Chapter 170 Chapter 170
The news hit Aunty Lisa like a heavy stone. She was at the grocery store picking some vegetables when her phone rang.
“Hello?” she answered with her usual cheerful voice, pushing her cart.
It was Rose on the other end, her voice trembling. “Ma’am… it’s Savannah. She—she fell down the stairs and was rushed to the hospital.”
For a second, Aunty Lisa froze. The tomatoes in her hands rolled to the floor. “What did you just say?” she asked, her voice cracking.
“She fell, ma’am,” Rose cried. “Mr. Adrian took her to the hospital. She’s unconscious.”
Aunty Lisa’s heart started racing. “Oh, dear Lord!” she gasped, grabbing her car keys from her bag. “I’m coming right now!”
She didn’t even finish her shopping. She left her cart in the middle of the aisle and ran straight to her car. Her hands were shaking as she tried to start the engine. “Oh God, not Savannah, please not my baby girl,” she whispered in panic as she drove off.
The drive felt like forever. Tears blurred her vision as she kept praying under her breath. “Lord, please protect her. Please don’t let anything happen to that child. Adrian loves her so much… and Liam—oh God, Liam!”
When she finally arrived at Adrian’s mansion, the gatekeeper opened the gate immediately. “Madam, you heard the news?” he asked with a sad face.
“Yes, where’s Liam?” she demanded, rushing inside.
Rose came running toward her. “He’s upstairs, ma’am. He’s been asking for his mommy since they left.”
Aunty Lisa didn’t waste a second. She climbed the stairs quickly, her heart pounding harder with every step. When she opened Liam’s door, she saw the little boy sitting on his bed, clutching his teddy bear tightly. His big brown eyes were filled with confusion.
“Aunty Lisa,” he said softly. “Where’s Mommy? Daddy went out with her, and everyone’s crying.”
Aunty Lisa’s heart broke. She forced a shaky smile and sat beside him, pulling him close into her arms. “Oh sweetheart, Mommy just got a little hurt, okay? She’s with Daddy now. She’ll be fine.”
Liam looked up at her. “Is she sleeping?”
Aunty Lisa nodded gently, brushing his hair back. “Yes, baby. She’s just resting. You have to be strong for Mommy, okay?”
He nodded slowly, holding her tighter. “I miss her.”
“I know, baby. I miss her too,” she whispered, tears slipping down her cheeks as she hugged him close.
After tucking Liam back into bed, she went downstairs to speak with Rose. “Has Adrian called?”
“Yes, ma’am,” Rose replied, wiping her eyes. “He said they’re still running tests. He’s not leaving her side.”
Aunty Lisa sighed deeply. “That man loves her so much,” she said quietly. Then she looked around the house, noticing the broken tray and the spilled coffee stains still on the marble floor. Her chest tightened. “Clean this up, Rose. Let’s keep the house calm when they come back.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
As Rose began cleaning, Aunty Lisa sat on the couch, her mind heavy with worry. She clasped her hands and whispered a silent prayer.
“Lord, please don’t let this family break apart. They’ve been through too much. Savannah’s heart is too pure to suffer again.”
Her eyes drifted toward the stairs — the same stairs that caused the accident.
Something about it didn’t sit right in her heart.
She whispered to herself, “It doesn’t make sense… Savannah is always careful.”
But before she could think further, she heard Liam calling softly from upstairs. “Aunty Lisa…”
She stood immediately. “Coming, sweetheart!”
She walked back up, forcing a smile for the little boy — but deep inside, her heart was trembling.
She could feel something was wrong.
