Chapter 169 Chapter 169
The morning sun poured softly through the tall windows of Adrian’s mansion. The air smelled of freshly brewed coffee and pancakes. Savannah had just finished dressing up. She wore a light pink gown and smiled as she looked at herself in the mirror.
“Adrian will love this,” she said quietly, brushing her long hair to one side. She was planning to surprise him with breakfast in bed before he started working from home again.
Downstairs, the maids were already busy setting the table. Rose, one of the kindest maids, looked up the stairs and saw Savannah stepping out of her room with a tray of coffee and bread in her hands.
“Good morning, ma’am!” Rose greeted.
Savannah smiled warmly. “Good morning, Rose. I just want to take this up to Adrian before he wakes up.”
But Rose quickly said, “Please, ma’am, let me help you. The stairs are slippery this morning. I just cleaned—”
Before she could finish, Savannah waved her hand gently. “No, it’s fine, Rose. I can manage. Thank you.”
She began walking carefully down the grand staircase. The house was quiet except for the soft sound of her steps on the marble floor.
But halfway down… her heel slid.
The tray flew out of her hands. The coffee spilled in the air.
Then thud!
Savannah fell hard down the stairs, hitting her head on the last step. The sound echoed painfully through the house.
“Ma’am! Ma’am!” Rose screamed in horror, dropping the plates she was carrying. She ran to Savannah, shaking in fear. “Oh God! Help! Madam Savannah has fallen!”
Adrian, who was upstairs in his study, heard the scream. His heart stopped for a second. He threw his pen aside and ran out of the room. “Savannah!” he shouted, his voice filled with panic.
He rushed down the stairs two at a time, his heart pounding wildly. When he reached the bottom, he saw her lying there — still, pale, and not moving.
“Savannah! Oh my God!” he cried, kneeling beside her. He gently lifted her head onto his lap. “Wake up, baby. Please, open your eyes!”
Rose was crying, shaking uncontrollably. “I told her, sir! I told her the stairs were slippery!”
Adrian’s hands trembled as he touched Savannah’s face. “Call the doctor! Now!” he shouted. “Hurry, Rose! Call Dr. Helen!”
Rose ran off, fumbling with her phone.
Adrian looked down at Savannah again. There was a small cut on her forehead, and her breathing was shallow. His eyes filled with tears. “No, no, no. Not you, Savannah. Please, stay with me,” he whispered, holding her close.
He didn’t care that his shirt was stained with coffee or that his hands were shaking. He just wanted her to wake up.
Minutes later, the doctor rushed in with her medical kit. Adrian didn’t even realize how fast he had been pacing until the doctor said softly, “Mr. Adrian, please give me space.”
He stepped back, watching in fear as the doctor checked Savannah’s pulse, her breathing, and her heartbeat.
“She’s still breathing,” Dr. Helen said quickly, “but she hit her head pretty bad. We need to take her to the hospital immediately.”
Adrian nodded, his voice breaking. “Do whatever it takes. I’ll drive.”
Within minutes, he carried Savannah in his arms, rushed outside, and placed her gently in the back seat of the car. The maids stood at the door crying as Adrian sped out of the gate.
Rose kept whispering through her tears, “Please, God, don’t take her away. Please.”
As the car disappeared down the road, the mansion fell silent.
Upstairs, little Liam came out of his room rubbing his sleepy eyes. “Mommy?” he called softly, looking around.
But no one answered.
