Chapter 111 Chapter 111
The next morning came quietly, with the sweet smell of fresh air drifting into the bedroom. Savannah slowly opened her eyes and turned to look at Adrian beside her. He was still sleeping, one arm resting over her waist, his breathing calm and deep.
She smiled gently. He looked so peaceful, like all the worries of the world had disappeared. For a moment, she just watched him, thinking about how far they had come. From strangers to best friends, to husband and wife — it still felt like a dream.
Savannah carefully sat up and stretched. She wore her robe and walked to the window, pushing the curtain aside. The sun had started rising, painting the sky with shades of gold and orange. It was such a beautiful sight that she whispered a soft “Thank you, God.”
Downstairs, the house was already awake. The maids were cleaning and chatting softly, trying not to make too much noise. The smell of breakfast filled the air — fried eggs, bread, and hot tea.
Savannah went to the bathroom to freshen up, and when she came out, Adrian was already awake, sitting on the bed with his phone in his hand.
“Good morning,” she greeted softly.
He looked up and smiled. “Good morning, love.”
She walked closer and sat beside him. “You woke up early today.”
He nodded. “I got an urgent message from the office. There’s a new project coming up. I might need to travel to the city next week.”
Savannah’s smile faded a little. “Travel? For how long?”
“Just a few days,” he said quickly, holding her hand. “I’ll be back before you even start missing me.”
She pouted playfully. “I’ll miss you before you even leave.”
Adrian laughed, brushing his hand gently on her cheek. “Then I’ll call you every hour.”
Savannah smiled again. “You better.”
They both laughed softly, enjoying the calm of the morning.
A knock came on the door. “Sir, madam, breakfast is ready,” one of the maids said politely.
“Okay, thank you,” Adrian replied.
Savannah stood up and adjusted her robe. “Let’s go eat before Aunty Lisa starts shouting that her food is getting cold.”
Adrian chuckled. “You’re right. That woman never changes.”
They both walked downstairs, hand in hand. The dining room was bright and lively. Aunty Lisa was already there, sipping her tea and pretending to be annoyed.
“You people finally decided to join me,” she said, rolling her eyes dramatically.
“Aunty, good morning,” Savannah greeted with a smile.
“Good morning, my dear. Sit down, before my blood pressure rises because of hunger,” Aunty Lisa said, but her tone was playful.
Adrian laughed as he pulled out a chair for Savannah. “You’re always full of drama, aunty.”
“That’s what makes me special,” Aunty Lisa said proudly. “Now, eat. The food is still hot.”
Breakfast went smoothly. Savannah ate quietly while Aunty Lisa kept telling funny stories about her neighbors and their endless gossip. Adrian kept laughing, shaking his head each time she spoke.
When they were done, Aunty Lisa excused herself to make a call, leaving Savannah and Adrian alone.
Savannah leaned on the chair and said softly, “Aunty Lisa loves you so much.”
“She loves both of us,” Adrian said, smiling. “But sometimes she acts like I’m still her little boy.”
Savannah laughed. “Maybe because you’re her favorite.”
“Maybe,” Adrian said teasingly. “But you’re my favorite.”
She blushed, looking away. “Stop it.”
“I won’t,” he said, standing up to kiss her forehead. “You deserve to hear it every day.”
Just then, his phone rang. The caller ID showed “Mr. Collins,” his business partner. Adrian sighed and picked it up.
“Good morning, Collins.”
Savannah listened quietly as Adrian talked. His expression slowly changed from calm to serious.
“I understand… yes, I’ll handle it… No, we can’t let that contract slip through,” Adrian said firmly.
When he hung up, Savannah asked softly, “Is everything okay?”
He nodded slowly. “Just business issues. Nothing serious. But I may need to leave earlier than I planned.”
Savannah frowned a little. “So soon?”
“Yes, maybe tomorrow,” he said. “There’s a meeting I can’t miss.”
Savannah took a deep breath and nodded. “Alright. I’ll help you pack your things tonight.”
Adrian smiled and reached for her hand. “You’re the best.”
“No,” she said softly, smiling back. “I’m just your wife.”
He grinned. “Exactly why you’re the best.”
They both laughed again, but deep inside, Savannah already felt a small sadness growing. The thought of him leaving, even for a few days, made her heart heavy.
Later that day, Savannah went to check on baby Liam in his nursery. The little boy was awake, kicking and cooing happily. She lifted him gently and carried him downstairs.
Aunty Lisa was sitting in the living room, watching a TV show. “Ah! My little grandson!” she shouted happily when she saw him.
Savannah smiled and handed Liam to her. “He’s been awake since morning.”
Aunty Lisa tickled the baby’s belly. “Ah, see how handsome you are! You took your father’s face and your mother’s smile. You’ll break hearts when you grow up o.”
Savannah laughed softly. “Aunty, please don’t start.”
Aunty Lisa ignored her, still playing with the baby. “So, what are you cooking for lunch today?”
“I’m thinking of making jollof rice,” Savannah said.
“Good choice!” Aunty Lisa said, clapping her hands. “Add fried plantain too. That’s how you keep your husband smiling.”
Savannah laughed. “You and food, aunty.”
“I’m telling you the truth,” she said seriously. “A man who eats good food will never have time for stress.”
They both laughed again.
Around noon, Adrian came downstairs, dressed neatly and ready to go to the office. He kissed Savannah on the cheek and said, “I’ll be back before dinner.”
“Drive safe,” she said softly.
“I will,” he replied.
After he left, Savannah sat quietly for a moment, watching the door close behind him. She missed him already, even though he had just stepped out.
She sighed and picked up Liam again. “It’s just us now, baby,” she whispered with a smile.
The rest of the day passed quietly. Savannah helped the maids tidy up the house, played with Liam, and later cooked dinner before Adrian returned.
That evening, when he came home, he looked tired but happy to see her. “Smells good,” he said as soon as he entered.
Savannah smiled. “Jollof rice, your favorite.”
“You’re spoiling me,” he said, dropping his briefcase and hugging her from behind.
“That’s my job,” she said softly.
They ate dinner together and talked for a while. Adrian told her about the meeting and how the company was planning to expand into another country. Savannah listened, proud of him.
Later, after putting Liam to sleep, they both sat on the balcony, watching the stars. The night air was cool, and the soft wind made the moment feel magical.
Adrian held her hand and said quietly, “I’ll miss you when I travel.”
“I’ll miss you more,” she replied.
“I’ll try to come back quickly,” he said.
“I’ll be waiting,” she whispered.
He smiled, then kissed her gently.
For a long while, they said nothing—just sat together under the stars, hearts at peace, surrounded by love and quiet promises.
It was one of those nights where everything felt perfect.
They didn’t know what the coming days would bring, but for now, it was enough that they had each other.
