Chapter 112 Chapter 112
The next morning came too soon. Savannah woke up before Adrian, her heart already heavy. She turned her head and looked at him. He was still sleeping, one arm resting over her waist, his chest rising and falling slowly.
She stared at him for a while, memorizing his face. She didn’t want to wake him yet. She just wanted to keep watching him, to hold on to that peaceful moment before he left.
After some minutes, she quietly slipped out of bed and went to the bathroom to wash her face. When she came out, she could already hear Adrian’s phone ringing on the table.
He sat up slowly, rubbing his eyes before answering. “Hello? Yes, I’m on my way soon… alright.”
Savannah’s heart squeezed a little. The reality of him leaving had finally sunk in.
“Good morning,” she said softly, forcing a smile.
He looked at her and smiled too. “Good morning, love. You’re up early.”
“I couldn’t sleep well,” she said. “I kept thinking about you traveling.”
Adrian stood up, walked over, and hugged her gently. “It’s just a short trip, I promise. I’ll be back in three days.”
Savannah nodded slowly, but she still looked worried. “Just be careful.”
“I will,” he said. “I’ll call you every night.”
Savannah smiled faintly. “You better.”
He chuckled, kissing her forehead. “Now stop worrying and help me find my blue shirt. I can’t go without it.”
Savannah laughed a little and went to the wardrobe. She found the shirt folded neatly and handed it to him. “Here. You’re too attached to this shirt.”
“It’s my lucky one,” he said jokingly. “Maybe it’ll help me close this deal faster so I can run back home to you.”
She laughed softly, but her heart still ached inside.
When he went to take his bath, Savannah sat on the bed, folding his clothes neatly into the travel bag. She arranged his perfume, wristwatch, and laptop case carefully, like she was packing pieces of her own heart.
By the time Adrian came out, dressed and smelling of his favorite cologne, breakfast was already waiting downstairs.
They walked hand in hand to the dining room where Aunty Lisa was already seated, sipping her tea.
“Ah, my traveling nephew!” Aunty Lisa said loudly as soon as she saw him. “You didn’t even tell me you were leaving this early.”
“I told you yesterday, aunty,” Adrian replied, smiling.
Aunty Lisa rolled her eyes. “You told me when I was half asleep. You should have woken me up properly.”
Savannah laughed softly as Adrian sat beside her.
“Don’t worry,” he told his aunty. “I’ll bring you gifts.”
“You better bring me something expensive,” she said, pretending to frown. “Not those cheap airport souvenirs.”
Adrian laughed. “I’ll make sure it’s expensive.”
Breakfast went quietly after that. Savannah didn’t say much; she kept eating slowly, staring at her plate. Aunty Lisa noticed it.
“My dear, don’t worry,” she said softly. “He’s not going to war. He’ll be back soon.”
Savannah smiled weakly. “I know, aunty.”
After breakfast, Adrian went upstairs to get his bag. Savannah followed behind him. When they got to the room, she stood quietly by the door, watching him zip his bag.
He noticed her silence and stopped. “Hey,” he said gently, walking closer. “Why that face?”
She blinked back tears. “Nothing. I’ll just miss you, that’s all.”
Adrian smiled warmly and held her close. “You make it so hard to leave, Savannah.”
“Then don’t go,” she said, half joking, half serious.
He laughed softly. “You know I have to.”
“I know,” she whispered. “Just come back soon.”
“I will,” he promised.
He kissed her deeply, a slow kiss that carried more meaning than words. When he pulled away, Savannah looked down, hiding the tears in her eyes.
“I’ll walk you to the car,” she said.
They both went downstairs. The driver was already outside, loading the bag into the car. Aunty Lisa stood by the door, waving her handkerchief dramatically.
“Bye, my dear!” she shouted. “Don’t forget my gift o!”
Adrian laughed. “Yes, aunty!”
He turned back to Savannah, who was standing quietly beside him.
“Take care of yourself, okay?” he said softly.
“I will,” she replied, forcing a smile. “And you too.”
He kissed her forehead one last time before entering the car. The driver started the engine, and slowly, the car drove out of the compound.
Savannah stood there, watching until the car disappeared down the street. She felt a heavy emptiness inside her chest.
Aunty Lisa walked up to her and touched her shoulder gently. “He’ll be back before you know it. Stop frowning, my dear.”
Savannah smiled faintly. “Yes, aunty.”
She went back inside, the house suddenly feeling too quiet. Even the maids were whispering as if they felt the change in the air.
Savannah walked to Liam’s nursery and found him sleeping peacefully. She smiled, leaning on the doorframe. “At least I have you, my little angel.”
The rest of the day went slowly. She cleaned a bit, talked with the maids, and later went to the garden to sit under the tree. She loved that place — it was peaceful, full of flowers, and reminded her of hope.
While sitting there, she picked up her phone and scrolled through old pictures of her and Adrian. Their wedding photos, their honeymoon, and little moments that made her smile. She stopped at one photo where Adrian was carrying baby Liam, laughing hard as the baby tried to grab his nose.
She laughed quietly, touching the screen. “You’re such a clown, Adrian.”
Later in the evening, Aunty Lisa joined her in the garden. “Still thinking about him?” she asked, sitting down beside her.
Savannah smiled shyly. “A little.”
“You’re in love, my dear. That’s how it is,” Aunty Lisa said. “When you truly love someone, even one day feels like one year without them.”
Savannah nodded slowly. “I never thought I could love again after everything I went through.”
Aunty Lisa looked at her gently. “That’s the beauty of life. Love finds us again when we least expect it.”
They sat quietly for a while, watching the sky turn orange as the sun went down.
That night, after dinner, Savannah put Liam to sleep and went to her room. She sat on the bed, staring at the empty side where Adrian usually slept.
She touched his pillow and sighed. “Goodnight, my love,” she whispered softly.
Then she lay down, hugging his pillow close, trying to imagine his warmth.
As she slowly drifted off to sleep, her phone buzzed. It was a message from Adrian.
“Just landed safely. Missing you already. Kiss Liam for me. I love you.”
Savannah smiled through her sleepy eyes. She typed back quickly, “I love you more. Come home soon.”
And with that, she closed her eyes, her heart at peace, knowing that even distance couldn’t take away what they shared.
It was only the beginning of their love story’s next chapter.
