Chapter 70 Chapter 70
Selena
The phone must have fallen from my hands.
Yes, it did, because the next thing I saw was the maid picking it up, her face worried.
“Madam, is everything alright?”
She asked, but I couldn't see her fully as tears crowded my sight.
It wasn't true.
Maybe it was a prank.
But it didn't sound like one.
I grabbed the phone from her and dialed Josh’s number.
It rang…..ended
Rang again….ended
I dialed it again, my heart beating frantically, my ribs tight and painful, my arms weak as I waited.
Nothing.
He wasnt picking.
Josh wasn't picking.
He has never left his phone, because I could call anytime.
Then it could be true. But how?
Josh was never the type. He wasn't one to do that and be involved with drugs.
He knew how life had been to us, so he would never do that.
I needed to leave.
My gaze focused on the maid. “Where is the boss? I need to speak to him.” I asked, my throat finding it hard to make words.
She nodded. “Follow me.”
I followed her.
I needed to be calm.
I wasn't going to let myself collapse right now. I needed to stay strong to get Josh then we’ll talk about it.
And..and if it’s true, then I’ll bail him out, and maybe.. Just maybe we could go to another country and start again.
I wiped away tears streaming down my cheeks.
That was all that I needed to do. I could leave. Screw everything.
The sentence, the contract, spying on Theodore Mateo, working as his assistant, being rich and comfortable.
Screw everything, as long as I could take Josh with me, then screw everything.
“Stop, Where do you think you are going?”
I raised my head, looking at where we were. I haven't been paying attention, only walking by following the maid’s legs.
“The young madam needs to speak to master, please make way.” The maids spoke with the men wearing suits. They stood before a door, guarding it.
The thoughts of what could be happening inside flashed in mind, but now wasn't the time to care for that.
“Master is having an important meeting now, come again after an hour.”
“But, she—” The maid moved to speak, but I'd already moved in front of her.
“Tell him I have something important to do, I need to go back for my brother. Please tell him this and he will be out.” I voiced desperately looking at them.
They looked at each other and then back at me. “I don't think it's a good—”
The door opened behind them, to reveal Theodore, standing in all his glory in a black tailored suit, behind him were people sitting, all in suits.
He closed the door, and stepped forward, passing me, not saying anything.
I followed immediately, cleaning my face.
Soon he stopped in a narrow corridor and faced me, his face carrying a message to convey what I had in mind.
I licked my lips. “I need to go home, boss. Something happened to my brother and…and..” I should say what the problem was, but how could I tell him my brother was just like him?
“Go on, Selena. Why do you want to leave now when you just got here, disregarding how important this meeting is?” His face tightened.
He was annoyed.
I bowed my head. “My brother got into an accident, and I need to go back home now. Please punish me when I get back, and I'll do anything you want.”
“Hmm,” The annoyance on his face was gone. “Anything I want?” He repeated.
And that sent shivers down my bones. Maybe I shouldn't have said that, but I needed to leave her, no.
“Anything.” I nodded in confirmation.
“Good, meet Zac outside.” And with that, he was gone.
I inhaled. I didn't think it would be so simple.
I rushed back to the room, getting the keys to my apartment, and important things I would be needing.
Thoughts, different thoughts of what could have gone wrong. Cruel thoughts of him being jailed fill my head inside the jet.
Before leaving home earlier, Josh had said he was staying with his friend, so how did he get involved with?
Soon, I forced myself to sleep. To make time faster because I was losing my mind with each second that passed.
But the sleep was only filled with terrible dreams.
I snapped my eyes open, tears in my eyes.
“You woke up at a perfect time.”
I looked at Zac, then the surroundings. We were on the roof.
“Oh, thank God.” Taking his hands, I stepped down.
“Thank you very much.” I appreciate it, turning to leave.
“You phone.”
I turned to Zac, and he raised my phone.
I shut my eyes in embarrassment as he walked to me and handed the phone.
“Thank you very much,” I muttered before stepping out to the stairs.
Josh's number still wasn't going.
The station address was sent to me earlier.
One minute I was running down the stairs and the next, I was inside the station, speaking to an officer.
“The prosecutor in charge has all the evidence against him. Right now, the only thing I’ll advise is getting a lawyer.”
My heart beat fast, faster than I had ever known.
I swallowed, stopping myself from crying
“Can I speak to the Prosecutor? My brother would never do anything of such, he isn't the type. Maybe he was framed.” I pleaded with the officer, opposite me.
He sighed. “I understand you. But we can't trust all these kids, especially those involved in high-profile crime. They always act all innocent, but they aren't. Even his accomplices have confessed to doing it with him.”
How, how was that possible? I reached for his hands.
“Maybe they were paid to lie against him. Please help me. It has always been just the two of us, so Josh won’t do anything that separates us.” I allowed the tears to flow from my eyes, my heart breaking, yet heavy.
“Then I guess he didn't know he would be caught. You should get a good lawyer, then maybe his charges will be lessened.” He started to close the book in front of him, as if to say, I was done with you.
But I wasn't.
“What about the prosecutor? Please let me see him, maybe..Maybe I could speak to him.” My voice broke.
“You can't see him, and also your brother till the day of trial. I’ll say it again that you look for a good lawyer, only he can meet your brother. Trust me, this’s to
Protect you.”
I scoffed.
Now, I’m being protected from my brother.
