Chapter 208 Chapter 208
Chapter 208 Chapter 208
Josh
Everything was stable with Selena. Though I still didn't like the idea of her being with Theo, I was getting used to his presence.
Plus she was pregnant, tying my hands. But they were all my excuses, because I started considering him after seeing how affected he was when Selena was in the hospital.
I was terrified that something would happen to her, and so was he, and that was what I wanted.
Someone who genuinely cared for Selena.
Being with him, Selena could rest assured that she would be well protected. No one could harm or abuse her anymore.
“Hey man.” Someone jumped on my shoulders and I knew it was Michael, so I kept walking, ignoring him.
“How is your sister doing? You know I never believed that she did that shit, so I’m glad she is out.”
I sighed. He had said the same thing days ago.
“Just say what’s in your mind,” I said to him as we came down from the stairs.
Before going into Theo’s underground, I broke up with Adalia, Not because I wanted to hurt her or I was hateful, but because we couldn't be together.
Her mother, who was also Mine and Selena’s mother. I found out mother’s family never wanted us, and mother finally left us after giving birth to me. Then she married into Adalia’s family.
When her family found out about us, they hid everything that pointed to them being related to us. Maybe that was one of the reasons Father turned the way he was. Being abandoned by your wife, leaving the kids with you must have driven him to madness.
There was no use contacting a woman who never searched for us after many years. I only wanted to know what happened. I wanted to ask her if we were worth abandoning for a life that wasn't the best.
She was ridiculed by everyone and that was her Karma.
So I decided not to associate myself with her and being with Adalia was going back to her.
“Are you really ending things with Adalia? I saw her the other day and she seemed to be avoiding me.”
“Just say you are scared you would no longer get money from her. All your side quests have ended.” I exposed and he smiled cheekily.
“I know you only see me as money hungry—”
“Great that you know.”
“Come on man, you know I want the best for you.”
“And Adalia is the best?” We kept walking.
“Yes….” He dragged. “She has been down for you since the beginning. She changed from a crazy person with a pink addiction to a very normal being. She loves you man and I know you do too… So—”
“So what do you want me to do?” I stopped at the car park. I was able to retrieve Selena’s old car so it was mine now.
“Give her another chance.” He said facing me.
I shook my head. “It’s not possible between us.”
“What does that even mean?” He asked and I just shook my head.
“I figure you won't be explaining further…..Drop me off at home man.”
“I'm not going your route and definitely I can't drop you anywhere because I am going to the hospital to meet Selena.”
“So you can't just drop me off—”
A car drove speedily and stopped in front of us.
“Ohhh, who do we have here?” Michael whistled at the fancy car.
But seeing who came out of it, I knew everything wasn't going to go well.
Adalia stepped out of the car.
“Oh Adalia, what a brand new way to introduce yourself. For the goodness of all my goodness to you, do you mind dropping me off at my home or something?”
I nodded at her and turned to enter my car..
“Please hear me out.”
I stopped, and my hands clenched to my door frame. It is easier to break up when you don't have to see the other person.
“I want you to meet my mother.”
I froze.
“Michael can you please excuse us, you can drive the car home, I will have my driver pick it up later.” She threw the keys to him, and Michael yelled, running to the door.
“I guess I will have to use your car now.” She said, joking.
“Why do you want me to meet your mother?”
“You know, from the beginning I wondered why you didn't like me, and when you did, you didn't want to be with me. But I was still glad every time you looked at me. Our little time together would last a lifetime for me, Josh. Till I find someone else I guess.” She shrugged.
Why does it feel like she came here to tell me she has moved on? Yes, she should. It was only best for her to.
But…
“I’m leaving. It hurts moving around and seeing you so I’m leaving.”
I should be happy. We were finally ending but why does my heart ache?
“I spoke to mom about you being her son. She is waiting for you at a cafe nearby. I know you want to forget about her, but can you meet her one more time? Ask her why she did what she did. Tell her how unfair it was growing up with her. You can say that.”
“Why are you doing this? You know I don't care.”
“No, you do. I want to ease your burden and you seeing how awful a parent she is will help you forget her. Can't I ask you for one more thing before I leave?”
Just like Adalia wanted, I followed her to the cafe, and there was mother sitting on a chair, her sophisticated dress telling her she wasn't fitting for the place.
Adalia was inside my car.
I sighed and walked to where mother was.
“Now I know the reason why you came to my place with my daughter.” She said, immediately raising her head high.
“I wouldn't be meeting you if not for her. She is leaving because of you, and I don't appreciate that at all, so I will be quick. How much do you need to be quiet about us being family?”
Family?
Zero remorse.
Growing up I have always thought that maybe mother had a reason for leaving us. And when I found out about her being alive and well, I thought maybe her family was restraining her. But it was wrong.
“I’m glad my sister and I never took anything from you.” I stood up. “I came here because of Adalia, so I'm leaving.”
I took my bag.
“Cut all ties with her, I don't want you…”
She kept talking but it all faded as I walked out, but Adalia was no longer inside the car, instead, a piece of paper was on her seat with my apartment key.
I had given it to her.
I picked up the letter and opened it…
“I know I shouldn't love you till the end, but I will. And if one day you decide that you want me, please find me. I know you are capable of that. Bye, Josh.”
